I'm oddly into peroni at the moment. What's the deal with that peroni leggeo or whatever it is that I see round? Is it light?

I don´t care what you fancy-pants real- small- micro- boutique- beer lovers say. Nothing beats the taste of good old Carlton Draught straight from the tap in a hot summer´s day.

gabbo  said about 2 years ago:

JRB - you are incorrect. Carlton Draught is horrible.

yes, peroni does suck balls. so does corona, but it's one of the worlds highest selling beers. idiots.

had a couple of south island NZ beers. one called ''brewski'' was nice. they also had macs and monteiths on tap everywhere. this i liked. except Monteiths Radler bier. that is monkey urine in a bottle, with a zesty twist.

jonny42  said about 1 year ago:

Kiwis are making some nice beers lately love the Nelsons lager (or whatever its called) from NZ. The macs beers are nice too.

kelele  said about 1 year ago:

Monteiths is on tap at e55.

Can anyone recommend me some Belgian white beers? I discovered them via Blue Moon on a recent trip to the US. Have tried Hoegaarden and Feral White since returning home. Anything else worth sampling?

Barrel  said about 1 year ago:

Smith & Clyde from Aldi.
$27.99 a slab.
Bingo.

tangy_zizzle  said about 1 year ago:

The new Little Creatures White Ale is worth a shot. Doesn't do a lot for me, but fits the description and not too difficult to find. Unibrue's Blanche de Chambly is good. They're probably the two easiest to find around Melbourne/Aus I reckon.

Would be interested to hear about other local brews in that style. German-style wheat beer seems to be a lot more popular.

tangy_zizzle  said about 1 year ago:

Oh and that reminds me of Unibroue's Ephemere Apple, which is witbier-like but tastes like Apples. Quite amazing.

max bulk  said about 1 year ago:

So in love with Belgians at the moment. Harvest on High Street has a decent selection. They also have heaps of French cider.

Oranjeboom is the cheapest beer in Hong Kong.
40cent Australian a can. But pretty damn good.

tangy_zizzle  said about 1 year ago:

You can get Oranjeboom from bws for about $30 a slab quite often.

This thread makes me sad. I had to give up beer for wine, cos beer was making me fat.

beertickle  said about 1 year ago:

I had a porter kick this winter and the results are in.
1. Flying Horse - Dirty Angel - Anyone can have a blonde – why not pick up a dirty angel? - aromatic porter with light toffee undertones
2. Holgate - Temptress - [A perfect winter warmer or a complement to meat pies and chocolate-based desserts.](http://www.holgatebrewhouse.com/temptress.html - that says it all really, it does have a distinct chocolate aftertaste, though it doesn't feel like you have drunk a big M like some chocolate porters. Young's Chocolate Stout I am looking at you.
3. Zywiec Porter 9.5% - [A chunky but smooth beer.] (http://www.tastingbeers.com/beer/zywiec/5834.html) - my recommendation with this is to let it sit at room temp for a few hours and drink as a night cap. Even though it packs a punch it is incredibly smooth and the more room temp it is the more the liquorice flavours come though.
4. White Rabbit Dark Ale - - this is probably the only beer here I could have a session on. Goes down a treat and I am sure most of you have tried it anyway.

The others
Hops Hollow Mac's Porter - no quote - not bad, very much a run of the mill stout however pretty good.
Aforementioned Youngs Double Chocolate Stout - too chocolate-y, too much.
There was another chocolcate stout that I tried from NZ can't remember the name but it was too sweet too. From memory it was an oatmeal chocolate stout so it was the equivalent of an alcoholic chocolate up and go.
Finally there was a Japanese stout that also escapes me which was quite expensive but not bad.
These are all available from Carwyn Cellars.

My votes go to:
Leffe Blonde, Knappstein reserve lager, Franziskanner Hefe weissbier & Redoak Organic wheat beer. Honourable mention to Sapporo, Kirin and Tsing Tao

Good stuff from NSW:

Tsing Tao is cheap but nice.
They are made of spring water in China with German technology.
