Not bad.
Cool...there are at least 2 things in their I'd be keen on.
Note the change of venue for Sydney
4 shows in 4 days in 4 cities including another country is a bit of an ask isn't it
Prob not needing to do too much set up / pack down for the road. Just turn up and play. A potential logistical nightmare though, keeping track of all the artists.
Also video tour from Danny of the new Melbourne site.
yep, that's pretty much what i'd heard - disappointing to see a number not coming to adelaide.
hope ian and the boys are bringing a symphony orchestra with em for ocean rain in full.
woah, britomart in auckland could be crazy/cool.
just realised adelaide ain't even the last stop on the tour and we STILL miss out on 3 acts.
truly gob-smackingly unbelievable.
New Sydney venue:

Echo playing the Killing Moon on dusk at this venue should be magic!
will be going to Melbourne, pretty much for Dirty Three and Daniel Johnston
Bump for my thread... I WAS FIRST!!! :P
Geez you got good taste in music, Magoo. I don't think I've read a dud post yet.
Excited to see the XX out here. Heard exceptional things about their live shows.
More interesting line-up than I expected. Considered going to jsut Black Lips and Daniel Johnston sideshows, until I noticed The Dirty Three were playing too. Might just have to go now.
umm.. not sure where this rumour started from.. but I am not one of the organisers...
Is anyone excited by Echo & the Bunnymen?
Nah, they're really old.

correct
Daniel Johnstons and Dirty 3 were my AMAZING.
The XX, The Very Best and N.A.S.A. was fun.
And yeah, my friends was waiting for an hour for chips.
Much better than last year though.
what song did sarah blasko sing with dappled?
was it 'vision bell'?
dappled had a sook on twitter last night about their rider?
And what about the train back home, huh?
Thousands of drunk/hungry/sunburnt/stinky hipsters were walking to the train station together and getting on the same train.
yikes.
it an unrelated note, if people have pictures they should post them on the laneway flickr page. given how many cameras I saw there aren't that many contributors. do it! i will cherish them forever.
live stream of Auckland Laneway playing now!
Seriously, some of you guys are serious whingers. Laneway was a rad day.
I had a ball. The only gripes would be toilet/food/beer lines, but thats just normal festival stuff. brilliant music, especially the bands I hadn't heard before; and an amazing venue (sydney)
I had an amazing time despite getting absolutely fried by the sun. Kid Sam, Black Lips and Eddy Current all outstanding.
live stream from AK: 3D's sound amazing
Thought Melbourne was quite good value on Saturday
Few issues (described here and elsewhere) but usual festival stuff that serves to remind you how Meredith/GP is generally leagues ahead of all other contenders
Particuarly enjoyed Eddy Current (criminally under-attended), Dirty Three (probably exceeded their super Forum show the previous week), Wild Beasts, Kid Sam
A hot summer afternoon is not the natural environment of The XX - pasty, black-clad youngsters looked almost melted by the end (although did sound pretty good)
Crowd was interesting. Seemed very well-behaved to me (none of the hyper-ocker stuff you hear about at the BDO these days or the more extreme looseness of Meredith/GP) - most looked like they could have been heading to Heineken Day at the Australian Open and taken a wrong turn.
Hope that hottest 100 win for mumford and his sons doesn't send the goateed bundy drinking on-a-week-off miners to the Perth leg.
it was and it sounded good.
Anyone else go to the Adelaide one?
I started with Black Gold, who I wasn't too keen on (sound like they should be on commercial radio), but things improved considerably with Kid Sam. I hadn't seen them before and was very impressed. I like how they avoid musical cliches and do their own thing, will definitely look out for their next appearance here.
Next was The XX, really enjoyed that too. I'd only really heard of them for being in the Wire's top 50 for 2009, and was surprised that they didn't sound so much like a ''wire'' band, but occasionally there were the sort of huge blasts of sub bass you only usually get at a dubstep show so perhaps that's it.
Eddy Current Suppression Ring were the only band on the bill I'd seen before so I new what to expect, but chances of seeing over here in Adelaide are pretty rare so I was looking forward to it. Great show, Brendan did his climbing bit he's been doing at all the shows, up onto the fire escape of the Mercury Cinema which was an impressive effort. Bit of a dickhead element up the front of the crowd, but also some hilarious moments like the various items of clothing thrown at the stage (would be nice if someone got footage of Brendan catching a sock).
I think after those three great performances I'd reached my official ''value for money'' moment, where everything else was just a bonus.
I opted for Hockey over Mumford which was a good choice, partly because the big drawcard outside meant that Fowler's wasn't too crowded, but also because Hockey were good fun. I had to initially get over the unfortunate association I get from their name with Joe Hockey and his awful taste in music (I reckon he might quite like Black Gold), but once I got over that I enjoyed it.
Got some food - they really need to get more than two food outlets, and possibly distribute them around the venue a bit (bring back the BBC stall from the first Adelaide one!).
Also went to the Mercury in time for the bit in ''We're Living on Dogfood'' about Primitive Calculators which was great.
Only caught the end of the Black Lips (opted to wait for the Sarah Blasko crowd to clear rather than fight my way through it), were OK, but didn't excite me too much.
Of course there had been rumours of an Echo no-show, but they turned up. I had my doubts but as it turned out they were good. I was never a big fan or anything so I was one of those ''just there for the big hits'' people and got what I wanted.
At this point I'd given up on trying to move between stages so I just hung around for Florence & the Machine at the main one, they were very popular with the crowd but didn't do much for me, but I'd already seen plenty to keep me happy anyway.
Being Laneway you have to have a bit of a whinge - I like the venue, but they need to put in a marked walkway from Fowlers to the food area. The whole point of a festival is to be able to check out lots of different music, if you can't freely move to a stage at any time then it's pretty frustrating. When there is something big at the courtyard stage it completely isolates the other three areas (fowlers, mercury, food stalls), so if you're getting food or at the cinema, and then someone you don't want to see starts in the courtyard, it's hard to get to Fowlers to see someone you really do want to see. Inevitably a thoroughfare does develop through the crowd, which then just pisses off the people watching the band and causes aggro at a festival with an otherwise good vibe. I think they just need to have a marked, or fenced off pathway along the back.
Leaked: Laneway Fest’s private rider request — booze, cigs & .. souvenir teatowels
lol i read that.
yeah, me too. Seems that musicians like beer, redbull and food. And in other news, seems that the sky is blue, the rain is wet, and the laneway festival is no longer in a laneway
