for 10 bux each we were given 20 minutes basic tuition from the club director no less, and before long we were bowling our arses off.

as more $10 jugs were downed, that window where you can be really good at anything was flung open.

the folks who run the place and all the pros there were so outrageously friendly - giving us tips and clapping and encouraging us. it was all smiles and jocularity.

disco pulled a leg muscle, but.

everyone had a hard time complying with this club rule:

cbc have barefoot bowls every saturday and sunday arvy in summer from 1 - 7ish pm.

you can book a rink for 2hrs for yr 10 bux each. we went at 5pm which meant the dudes basically lets us bowl until the sun went down. best if you call to book in advance though - was pretty busy when we first got there.

so much fun!

i think we ended up with at least four wins each, pro.

we all seemed to be naturals - the very enthusiastic professionals at the club were really wanting em and i to join because the women's club is low on members.

we will now be actively pursuing our goal of representing australia in the lawn bowls at the next commonweath games.

directly opposite the club is a wonderful 50's era chesty bonds image (on top of the building where the old bonds factory used to be) that i'd never seen before.

it's highly addictive once yr get yr eye in.

yes, yes there was. t'was a beautiful day. the only problem was the 'beats n bowl' shit going on, that was right next to our lane and blasting all our heads off. other than that it was great.

sorry I was way too hungover/scattered for this yesterday...
when I was walking past paddo bowls yesterday evening on my way to dinner I saw all the people having fun and wished I had been up for it.

I also saw a whole bunch of young people who'd dressed in white for the occasion - like boys with white shorts, white ties and white sox pulled up - they all looked hilariously fantastic!

next time there is no escape redlips...

Anyone know of any bowls clubs by the ocean in Sydney? Other than Clovelly?

Coogee is near the ocean but maybe a few hundred meters away. No views but seems a pretty easy going club when I've been there.

I was hoping for some views, if there are some out there.
