sweet
I reckon i'll cry
yes! this film is really awesome. go see it!
I missed this when I was o/s. Hopefully it will come to Sydney.
I just mis-read the date and thought it said June, so got all excited.... then realised it says july.
sigh... so long to wait
yes, this was a highlight for me at the film festival last year.
can't wait to see it again
oh damn, i hope this comes out in sydney
i like it how the title of the thread cuts off and it says "the devil and daniel johns.."
paul mac wasn't evil and offensive enough for this man. he had to go the whole way.
I'm pretty sure it is getting a sidney run starting on the 27th as well. Can't wait.
cool looking forward to seeing this again.
this is amazing.
i did cry.
tonight (thursday) there's a special screening at chauvel in sydney (it's reopening. awesome) with marc fennel talking to the director plus darren hanlon, tucker bs and laura imbruglia (?) all doing acoustic versions of some dj songs. phenomenal, i do think it will be.
Tonight: Hurrah!
thankyou for the reminder
Ahh! PM TIME
I just found out about this! I should go. Sceaux you wouldn't know a cost would you?
saw it at Miff last year - such an amazing film about an incredible artist. don't be put off if you aren't a fan of his music, its still wonderful.
yep, i wasn't (and still aren't) a fan of his music, but it was still a great doco
me going to this.
this looks awesome, but apparently is fairly confrontational in parts too. i always get a bizarre feeling of being exploitative whenever i listen to him in the same way i do with wesley willis, though i find daniel johnston far more listenable.

Did he play 'Casper' ?
Much off the new album? Do Old Man River actually play with him? Does he play piano and guitar solo? Anyone have a setlist?
Sorry, so many questions.
no casper...
probably 2-3 songs off the new album and did play with Old Man River - and managed to make them sound pretty good - no small feat.
he only played a little guitar at the start... and no piano.
no setlist but was lots of classics/famous stuff
I had lost my mind?
not 100% sure about i had lost my mind... my memory tells me he did, but i also feel i could be wrong.
Thanks machina!
There has no I had lost my mind.
But as machina said, there was lots of classic stuff.
Speeding Motorcycle, True love will find you in the end, etc...
i loved that we got Hey Joe and Living Life.
Old Man River are an abomination though.. how funny was it when we got to hear 30 second samples of the songs they'd just played as house music before Daniel came on?!
It was so very painful. My partner and I twitched our way through their set just to make sure we were close to the stage. The poor attempt and Funeral Home? Daniel himself must have been cringing at it.
The best part was DJ forgetting who they were! HAHA! ''Lets introduce the band. Who is this band?''
Daniel Johnson was awesome last tonight, till he was joined on stage by some prick who thought he worked at Guitar Center and a backing band made up of cock smoking assholes! Thanks mother fuckers, you just ruined what could have been a mind altering experience.
Fuck you Old Man River, not only do you musically suck, but you totally fucking ruined Daniel's set last night!
i was horrified when they played those songs with him. totally the worst thing that could have been done musically, so, so gimmicky and shallow.
The first half was much better than the second half. The second half was kind of like an Daniel Johnston RSL cover band. Not really Daniel's fault, he championed his way through the whole show. He was obviously enjoying himself, too.
That dude really likes John Lennon.
*a
man.. i wish i had seen that gig!
ha.i don't want to be cruel, not even on the internet, but this exact thought has crossed my mind, independent of any recent daniel johnston gigs.
I blame Everett True
still can't get it out of my head from the other night at the Prince. fucking incredible way to finish up.
