I just found out a particular former chat is going. Something I never thought I would see. I will point, and laugh, I am sure.

Word is the legendary Lou Barlow will play a solo set around 3.30 Saturday arvo somewhere nice on the site…more details as they come to hand.

so don't suppose anyone has further word on this? i don't wanna miss it.

chelloveck  said about 1 year ago:

pretty sure i read somewhere details of that will be displayed at the festival bobmob

bungle  said about 1 year ago:

yeah in the last email they said that it MAY happen, and they'll have it listed at the site if it goes ahead

fingers crossed.

obsessive weather update: chances of showers have gone up, but so have the temperatures - both days now have max 23 and min 15.

orange  said about 1 year ago:

I'm going to be uncharacteristically optimistic and say that it ain't gonna rain much at all. They forcast 10-20mm today and they only got 1.8mm.

i like that! hot and wet is my favourite type of weather. not that 23 is hot but y'know what i mean...

He mentioned this tonight when doing his instore at Missing Link (which was ace by the way)...

he had no further info to add to this

Got back last night, what a fantastic Golden Plains! Let the yearly roundups begin.

POSITIVES

PAVEMENT - What a fucking amazing set? I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven.
DINOSAUR JR - Getting up the front and in the moshpit for their set. Talk about a 90's nostalgia fest.
LOU BARLOW SOLO SET - Brand New Love and Soul & Fire. Lou you spoil us so.
JEFFREY LEWIS & THE JUNKYARD - Especially the mosquito song.
WOODEN SHJIPS - They may only have the one song, but it's a good song.

NEGATIVES
PEOPLE TALKING DURING LOU BARLOW'S SOLO ACOUSTIC SET - Why go to all the trouble of finding where Lou is playing his solo set just to talk through it, Coolsie scum fucks!
THE DJ BEFORE DIRTY PROJECTORS - You don't rest your beer on the turntable, you just don't do it.
JULIEN WU - That should've been me goddamit!!
WOWSERS - If you want a good night's sleep, stay at home.

POSITIVES
* The dude in the bubble
* Peepdelta crushing a can during a FARKING WEDDING
* JirishPrides puffy white weather suit
* Having the forethought to bring a good bed and doona and a surplus drying tent.
* MacDonalds on the trip up.
* Rocketpops retelling of the ''WALLY INCIDENT'' and ''TACO v PILL''

NEGATIVES
* No Negs
* Oh, actually, getting a flat battery on the last day and having joining the RACV for $270!!!! WTF

Good times, good times!

slothman  said about 1 year ago:

i had the best time. it was the best camping trip i have ever been on

highlights.
* i shook hands with lou barlow, patted him on the back and told him an anecdote that he chuckled good naturedly at. if you had told me at any point in the last 15 years that was going to happen (straight after he played an assortment of sebadoh songs on an acoustic guitar), i'd have said you were craaaayyzzzee.
* calexico. as good as i could have hoped. just really, really great music
* pavement. i heard people on site sooking that they were ''too loose'' or somesuch. my guess is that they're the kind of people who look at a picasso and say ''any kid could've done that.'' congratulations on missing the point. pavement are one of the all time great bands from one of the all time great periods of rock music and they can still bring it, it was an honor to see them at golden plains.
*the weather. seems like the supernatural ampitheatre was one of the safest places to be while the rest of central victoria was getting fucked on with rain. the least comfortable i was for the whole weekend was for the two or three hours the sun came out on sunday cos i had to take my jacket and waterproof pants off. seriously considering always wearing gumboots.
*camp burgundy. good friends, good times. 'nuff said.
* the food. as always was pretty delicious and everything was fairly reasonably priced considering they could have charged ANYTHING they wanted. muchos gracias, all round.

not so highlights
*jack ladder. seriously, pal. give it a rest. same goes for the big pink and dirty projectors. unless any of you are the people who handed in our camera into the lost and found. i thought would be lost, soaked and broken for sure. but there it was in perfect working order with no pictures of dicks on it or anything. if that was you: big hug; many, many thanks but i still don't like your band.

i had the best time

soula  said about 1 year ago:

good
pavement, dinosaur jr (also in the moshpit, fell on my arse, mud to my knees, but the best fun ever), cruel sea (except tex lied the rain had stopped for the night), wooden ships nice from afar but a bit washed out, jeffrey lewis was great and yes to the mosquito song - shame his night set got cancelled due to the rain. pink flamingo, than you for your shelter and pink drinks. the ritual hungry jacks pitstop on the way home. mmm clean toilets.

bad
rain. rain. and rain. no boots. mud sneakers. the dick who ran over a bit of my tent with their car trying to drive past lots of other tents. the tent leaking. not seeing lots of bands cause of the rain. dirty projector, huh? sunburn from the brief glimpse of sun. the hour it took to get out of meredith. oh and the new super high compost toilets, bad ergonomics dudes.

now i'm spending the rest of the week to recover. hopefully in time for friday and pavement.

Punch  said about 1 year ago:

this thread makes me extremely happy. to those who say they can't get their money's worth any more, you just aren't trying. the line up was a little lean for my liking but i think that's just because the weather prevented me from taking a risk on bands i was unaware of or were not worth braving the rain for. also, you can't buy the type of friendships and good times that are found and forged in the meredith supernatural amphitheatre, especially when it rains. there were loads of great things that i loved but for now i will just say lou's set was my highlight and my lowlight was coming home to learn that mark linkous was dead.

poprocks96  said about 1 year ago:

How people can say they are not getting value for money is beyond me. You know the line up before purchasing the ticket....can you not work out at the time of purchase if you will enjoy parts of the line up?
