About time there was a thread for one of the best pop bands that ever was.
Crazy Rhythms is one of my favourite albums. It's unbelievable that it's unavailable on CD.

the other best pop band is xtc just in case anyone was wondering
was there ever any doubt?
not between you and me sir
tell me more about the feelies
not what you'd call a pure pop band. nervous, jerky and droney pop, yes. like if Neu! played college rock. great band.
i stumbled across Crazy Rhythms in a second hand record store about 15 years ago...it was a revelation then, as it is now. Still one of my all time faves...and one of the best covers too.
like if Neu! played college rock.
that's pretty spot on. Or Velvet Underground meets early Talking Heads perhaps
Their second album The Good Earth is pretty damn good too. Does anyone know if they have reformed anytime recently?
www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/36335/The_Feelies_Reunite_Sorta
fingers crossed re reunion.
incidentally i saw the film Something Wild recently which featured a great scene where the feelies are doing a fantastic live version of David Bowie's fame. Does anyone know if this was ever recorded?
Yes, good get. Only Life and Time for a Witness have their charms too.
In fact, I think Only Life is probly my favourite (for awhile, too far gone, away, etc.). Tense, jerky pop.
feelies - crazy rhythm
good thread. good band. thanks djbollocks.
dang i thought we were talking about Brave New World version of the 'feelies'...
oh my god how i LOVE the feelies, i bought crazy rhythms because i thought the cover was pretty and it was only 3 dollars. although i do enjoy the later stuff, nothing compares to the first album. apparently between 77-80 they did loads and loads of home recording, to hear this stuff would be a dream come true. it just seems nuts that this stuff hasn't been reissued when heaps of bands from the same era that were of no real consequence have 2 cd retrospectives released. at present i am wearing a feelies badge, the only badge i ever wear.
It is criminal that their stuff hasn't been re-released and it would be so great if they could dig out some unreleased material. I'm jealous that you have a feelies badge surfking.
I should add that their second album The Good Earth is great as well.

mmm feelies. i am seeing glenn mercer in spetember in NYC. Steve Wynn is supporting. I'm pretty freaking excited. My two cents is that the Good Earth is the best feelies album. I had and loved crazy rhythms for a while then found the good earth at dixons many years ago. didn't click with me til years later but when it did it clicked majorly.
ALSO
let's not forgot The Trypes, which basiscally was the feelies with brenda taking a more upfront role. If you find their sole EP, the explorers hold, get it. it's really hypnotic. Here's a song not from the EP available to download:

i also have a rejected test pressing of fa ce la/raised eyebrows...a friend of mine has two massive posters of crazy rhythms and the good earth.
before anton fier was in the feelies he was in x-x from cleveland, which is also really quite good
Feelies reunite. Looks like it's for a one night only kind of gig though.
my dad burned me a copy of 'the good earth' the other day, and i've been listening to it for ages. my boyfriend also has a copy of 'time for a witness', which i love as well. apparently, 'crazy rhythms' has been reissued recently. i ordered it but it hasn't turned up yet. maybe it was a pipe dream?
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now!
I had a serious hankering tonight to hear ''it's only life'', (a long-time fave) and chanced upon this d/l of the entire album
is a bit like a dream to find this so easily...

Saw them in Jersey, equally amazing.
few photos
''equally amazing'' sounds wrong and bothers me. My brain has gone to shit. But they were amazing.
Jealous. Didn't know the reissue vinyl had come out, awesome.
Yeah I got it for Mrs.C for her birthday. She was very happy with it.
motherfucker i hope they're playing a show when i'm there later in the year. doubt it though.
i'm trying to record my LP of crazy rhythms to cassette so i can listen to it at work. loser central.
New album out, distributed locally by PopFrenzy. Please, please, please a tour ...
wow. that kind of appeared from nowhere.
New albums sounds very nice.
stumbled on Crazy Rhythms on my computer and am now totally in love. thanks to whichever sneaky friend put this on here!
I enjoyed this, http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/sponsors/1744-summer-jammin-with-ice-cream-man-the-feelies/2802-celebrate-ny/
i like the new album, but not a patch on Crazy Rhythms
I love The Feelies, they're so unassuming, in that clip they look like a bunch of middle-aged high school teachers that have gotten together to have an impromptu jam.
They still look cool!
Ah, such fond memories of seeing them last year.
i was at the show this was filmed before; the main show was filmed for brooklyn independent tv, with real estate and times new viking as supports. no video has surfaced though, but the tv station's website seems to upload everything they broadcast. pretty magical night.
I'm jealous oldtimer, awesome lineup.
jealous of both oldtimer & goldy. wanna see them feelies...
it seems that they were offered a pretty good package to come here in the last 18 months, but because they all have jobs and families they couldn't make time. so a tour looks pretty unlikely, unless its over an extended holiday period.
