Yep, heard it today on the radio. Sad, sad news.
How'd he die?
As far as I'm aware he had a long running battle with cancer.
oh shit
he had cancer, didn't he? that is awful news
This may be why Adalita cancelled all those solo shows and the Magic Dirt shows that were meant to happen this weekend were pushed back a couple of months. Sad news.
that's very sad news to read.
all the best to the family.
really? fuck.
fuck
hell no
so very very sad.
Thoughts and prayers to all concerned
you cunts are fucked! i hate you all.... get a fucken hobby!
HANDSOME-people are upset this guy has passed...........
what's your fucken story!?!
Let's not do this here. The most creative bass player I ever saw in a rock/pop band, as I've maintained for years the noise bits at the end of MD sets were always my favourite bits. I based the whole idea of Bowl Of Dick on these bits. Also, a very handsome, polite and genuine person. This news has been expected for a while, which I'm sure is no consolation to his partner and two young daughters. The last show at the Tote on NYE was magnificent in every way, and I overheard some young girls in the pit next to me going on about how sexy Dean looked and how they wanted to jump him. Not bad for a dude who could barely stand due to terminal illness. Saw the band a gazillion times, my favourite possibly being a Triple R rooftop live to air, but it was Dean's mad bits that reeled me in time and time again. I would love to hear a record made up entirely of his end-of-set noise improvisations, if such a compilation could be managed. He produced Adalita's solo album, which was only finished last week, so he was active until the end, and I'm looking forward to hearing it. Nothing I can say will be of any cheer to his friends, but please accept my respect and condolences.
buffy-nicely said!
Indeed, buffy. Well said.
hey cheezel fuck off! fuck you! thats all i have to say! i dont have to say my fucken story! YOU STUPID FUCKEN IDIOT!

I'm still stunned that he's gone. Dean was really a fantastic guy. He was vegetarian and loved animals too. Adalita and Dean were both strong supporters of Animal Liberation.
I've written a short tribute to Dean that will appear in an upcoming edition of Action (the magazine published by Animal Liberation Victoria).
aww. sweet
Can you post the pic Ben?
classic.
what a great night! kudos to magic dirt, i'm sure dean would have been proud. he was probably there, rocking out on stage in spirit form.
Fantastic!! On canvas, hey?
What songs did Daniel play on? Sorry about all the questions, but I was unable to attend the gig in this timeline, much to my disappointment.
The photo looked amazing. i think Daniel played on ice, i was cruel and some cover at the end, i think it was a bored song or some band from this era. When everyone walked off stage, Adalita rubbed the bass on the deans amp getting the feedback in the same note as her guitar. Was a special night, even for someone who has not listened to them for 10 years. They opened up with the secret track which is ice backwards which really set the scene. Beautiful night.
aww wish i was there. awesome pic ben!
The opening music was the 35 mins backwards track from Signs of Satanic Youth. Im pretty sure it aint Ice... but I could be wrong.
Daniel played on I Was Cruel.. perhaps it was Ice, I cant recall. and it was a 10 minute version of the Stooges ''I wanna be your dog'' as the set's closer.
Ad was in fine form. totally rockin it bigtime. The night had a great vibe. Some folks got a little emo, while others just enjoyed and celebrated the memory of Dean
daniel played on horror me, i was cruel, and i wanna be your dog. he went to walk off halfway through i was cruel thinking it was finished, and raul had to stop him leaving the stage!
it was a very emotional show. very dark. the big pic of dean on the way in looked great.
and i still can't believe he's gone.
haha.. yeah. But the band had me fooled too... it kinda felt like the song was over.. even though they hadn't done the ''fist time laid down...'' section.
Finally got my photos back here
awesome shots ben.
i forgot to spy on daniels pedals on the night so these photos help! can make out a rams head i believe...
daniels pedals went something like this:
guitar - blue box (MXR) - silver big muff (smaller) - silver bigmuff (larger) - Superfuzz - Wah - tuner - amp
I've been kinda copying it for Paul Kidney Experience gigs lately
God, it's so shocking that this was a year ago. Where did that time go?
your photos are rad ben. :)
Yep, a whole year.
I think about Dean a lot. He was a magnificent guy.
