Ash-showoff  said about 2 years ago  or at  4:15PM on Thursday, August 20 2009 in industry

Is he on holidays or something? There hasn't been anything (besides IMEDIA & AMID news) for weeks...

Latest news post here

I noticed that his column in streetpress was not even half a page the other day.

Anyway, he's not very good at what he does. Never actually breaks any news stories, does he?

andyr  said about 2 years ago:

poprocks, tactful as always.

poprocks96  said about 2 years ago:

Well, does he?

bigdaddykane  said about 2 years ago:

He or she? Thought it was a chick.

josejones  said about 2 years ago:

ugliest chick EVER.

poprocks96  said about 2 years ago:

You are!

Ash-showoff  said about 2 years ago:

It's NOT meant to break anything. It's basically a service...
This is thread Mr. Tripp.......

timewaster  said about 2 years ago:

Christie is a man. Haven't checked his groin, but I'm sure 'it' is a man.

His column is good. It's useful to discover where Glenn Wheatley will speaking at a music conference that only costs $600 a pop, or which bands have signed onto have Michael Parisi blow cocaine up their bums with a golden straw.

Ash-showoff  said about 1 year ago:

Very limited this week.

mathieson  said about 1 year ago:

No competition to push him ever since Butler has gone legit for Rupert.

And here's why. From the presser:

LEADING INDUSTRY INSIDER CHRISTIE ELIEZER EXCLUSIVELY JOINS INDUSTRY BIBLE THE MUSIC NETWORK AS MOMENTUM GAINS TOWARD UNPRECEDENTED LAUNCH

SYDNEY, MAY 7, 2010 – Australia’s number one source for music business news and information, The Music Network (TMN), announces the thrilling appointment of Christie Eliezer as Senior Industry Correspondent across all TMN properties, proudly cementing both parties reputations for being first in news.

Eliezer will henceforth contribute his industry insights exclusively to the TMN newsletter, the weekly magazine and the soon to launch TMN website juggernaut. As such his contributions to themusic.com.au will cease effective immediately. Eliezer’s move to TMN is a fitting homage to both the warm regard in which he is held and the esteemed reputation he has nurtured over many decades of dedication and brilliance.

This appointment comes at an exciting time for TMN with a revamped digital launch slated for June along with the release of the Black Book, a free national and international industry directory containing all the information from everyone you need to know in the music game worldwide.

Christie Eliezer comes to TMN with considerable industry experience. A current Australian correspondent for international music magazines Pollstar and Billboard, he started his career with Australian music magazines Go Set and Soundblast before editing Juke and being a contributing editor for Rolling Stone Australia. With bylines appearing in magazines around the world such as NME, Sounds, Record Mirror, Circus, New York Post, USA Today and GQ, Eliezer has also seen his weekly music industry column acclaimed as one of the Top 10 blogs in the world by UK trade publication Music Week. Eliezer will continue his weekly Industrial Strength Presented by The Music Network column in Brag and Beat.

Publisher and CEO Adam Zammit said upon the appointment, “I was reading Christie’s column when was I young and thin and playing in bands many (many) years ago. He remains as crucial an insider to this dynamic industry now more than ever and we are stoked to have him exclusively at TMN.”

Christie Eliezer says: “It has never been a more exciting time to be a part of the music, entertainment and technology sectors, and The Music Network’s future plans to reflect 21st century cultural energy is something I definitely want to be part of.”

In another coup for The Music Network, the editorial team has been further augmented by the addition of Jason Treuen as Deputy Editor across both magazine and website. Working closely with Editor In Chief Nicole Fossati, Treuen brings his pioneering expertise in Music and Entertainment content management for media corporations Austereo, XYZ (Channel [V] and Max) and the ABC’s national youth network Triple J, as well as powerful journalistic chops via Rolling Stone, The SMH, Frankie and Men’s Style amongst others.

“The music industry is in such an interesting, dynamic state of flux right now so it’s very exciting to be in the thick of it with the TMN team,” said Jason.

Action abounds at TMN headquarters so watch this space for more exciting news to come.

so the blows between tripp and zammit continue?

I liked the spin on his final column about it.

As you may be aware, he's been working on a script which has taken him away a few times to his home country of Sri Lanka and he now wants to devote more time to the film as well as other writing. We see his leaving as a real loss but also gives us an opportunity to freshen the industry news with more critically current daily items.

Juke.

now those were (not) the days. He was hardly ever there, as I recall.

Goal attack  said about 1 year ago:

So the black book is a free music industry directory? I guess that's the end of the AMID

philtripp  said about 1 year ago:

Sorry to disappoint you on two fronts.

The Black Book won't be free. From their email :
''These details will be for viewing only by paid subscribers
(i.e. other relevant members of the music industry) and not by
the general public./ This section of the Black Book will serve
as an excellent way to bring in business and act as a networking
tool. ''

Yes, they did lift the listings from our directory ''free'' but not from the new one, they were dumb enough to use the last one.

Second, I think after 22 years and coming into our 45th edition in September, it's hardly the end of us. From the feedback from our industry peers, they don't really see the need for a duplicate, don't trust them and we have a history and integrity that the new owners lack.

I'm not really concerned, besides I'm retiring in six months and it's something the new owners can scrape off their shoes.

Ash-showoff  said about 1 year ago:

This is turning into a story about two guys, Christie Eliezer-rises and Phil Tripp-spits.

montyclift  said about 1 year ago:

well, beside some amusing speculation as to who 'the doorbitch' may have been, the major recurring issue seems to be phil's vendetta against the various arms of adam zammit and/or peer group. wonder what his beef is with 'em?...

montyclift  said about 1 year ago:

oh, and a free classified for someone trying to sell a decade-old daewoo. cutting edge.

Ash-showoff  said about 1 year ago:

I think Phil is giving the wheels away for free. Pretty solid I thought.

But yeah, I'm tired of hearing about Phil (aka the door bitch?) and his beef with The Music Network........... However, he does have a point in them being pretty irrelevant / outdated.

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

Who needs a music industry directory anyway? It's such a small industry. All you need is Google and a sachet of coke.

Ash-showoff  said about 1 year ago:

Some good figures:

We knew the new Daily News Feed launched May 11 as a free service would attract viewers and we were right, when we changed the weekly news column from Christie's Column to the Velvet Rope Friday May 14. We just got our site stats back from Google and the numbers show a massive increase of traffic.

Velvet Rope is at http://www.themusic.com.au/velvetrope.php?s=velvetrope with highly controversial news and analysis every Friday at noon.

Daily News Feed is at http://www.themusic.com.au/dailynews.php?s=dailynews with 10-12 key music business news stories hotlinked daily from around the world.

From May 10 - May 16 we had 9997 page views and over 4500 unique visitors
* Daily News Feed (5 days only) was 2379 page views.
* Velvet Rope (only measured for three days) was 1200 page views and growing
* Loose Cannon had over 1200 reads in just 10 days (Whatever Happened to the Music Network, or is that NotWork) http://www.themusic.com.au/imm.php?s=phil
* Our readers are mostly Australian, but we had 78 countries tune in.

montyclift  said about 1 year ago:

i think that just shows phil is a bitching angry little man who repays years of loyalty with contempt.

but then again, i wouldn't expect anything more.
