Jet album chart debut prediction thread

mathieson  said about 2 years ago  or at  8:56AM on Friday, August 14 2009 in industry

Third album ''Shaka Rock'' is out next Friday, while single ''She's A Genius'' has just breached the top 40, moving up from 55 to 38.

Have at them, M+N. I'm calling 4.

Block  said about 2 years ago:

It's got to be a pretty good chance to go number 1, surely?

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

on the back of a number 38 single?

Block  said about 2 years ago:

No, on the back of a massive media push.

Mo  said about 2 years ago:

I hope this album goes huge - the songs i have heard are rad

Block  said about 2 years ago:

And on the back of Mo's recommendation, too.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

what have they been doing in this media push? i've been totally ignorant of it. i feel left out.

is it ads and promos on Triple M?

drugshakehands  said about 2 years ago:

passing out on stage.

mathieson  said about 2 years ago:

They were in Australia doing promo the other week for just a few days and then headed back to Europe.

They no longer have the mass appeal but they do have the b(r)and recognition and the songs work on radio. I say the lower reaches of the top-20. If I have to give an exact number I'll give #18.

number 2 on the waffles top 10, the kids are loving it!

timewaster  said about 2 years ago:

They should do an endorsement deal with Just Jeans and a company that makes defibrillators.

Then they will get to number one.

Number 42 - Best of the Eagles. Takes me back to 1979 and The Long Run.

CrakTheBarbarian  said about 2 years ago:

shes a genious sounds like they've gotten around to ripping off turbonegro

Tramdriver  said about 2 years ago:

Ohh... the anticipation....

Jet are probably just ripping off the same bands Turbo rip off.

Ditto  said about 2 years ago:

I think they will debut at 14, be out of Top 30 the following week, out of top 50 the week after that!

Debuted at #5. Black Eyed Peas are #1 and Artic Monkeys debuted at #2.

mathieson  said about 2 years ago:

First time I've ever said this: Matt Church was spot on.

Good call, cityofthechasch.

Block  said about 2 years ago:

Only 5?
Wow.

Zaphod  said about 2 years ago:

Good to see Humbug doing well, fucking excellent record.

temporarybenbutler  said about 2 years ago:

Poor Jet. Second album drop-off is a bitch (and bitchier than ever these days).

How many units?

dj  said about 2 years ago:

I listened to this album for the first time yesterday. I really didn;t like it. boring, uninspiring MOR rock. And then I put on Eddy Current Suppression Ring and everything was okay again

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

get born didn't debut at 1 either.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

where's the snarky m+n review?

temporarybenbutler  said about 2 years ago:

Get Born did make 1, though. 2nd album peaked at 3.

Get Born was a global hit, too - does the US care for Jet any more?

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

yeah, but didn't it make one after a relaunch/repackage (and a ipod ad, and some us love) i'm pretty sure it was a month or two down the track. from memory it debuted in the teens or twenties?

temporarybenbutler  said about 2 years ago:

Something like that, although I think the iPod ad might have come first? I don't think that kind of push is there for the band these days.

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

agreed, guess i'm saying that 5 isn't a bad result per se, and it could go up (and if it means stopping the black eyed peas, i'm all for it)

Goal attack  said about 2 years ago:

Poor Jet. Second album drop-off is a bitch (and bitchier than ever these days).

A cold hard bitch?

mathieson  said about 2 years ago:

How many units? Based on recent weeks a placing of 5 means 4-5000 units sold.

temporarybenbutler  said about 2 years ago:

A cold hard bitch?

Third album, even.

alf  said about 2 years ago:
