That's a fucking cracker, that one. La Mer and Faun are sublime. That's a Sony Classics release, innit? I dig it muchly.
No the one we got is CBS Coronet Records. All these are on vinyl. I pretty much always listen to vinyl at home and iPod when I'm out and about. Rarely CD's.
Pops Concert: Espana - THE LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
Yeah. Sony released a bunch of the old CBS ones (with the Philadelphia Orchestra?) on CD for cheap when they acquired the company, I think. I picked up this disc (which has most of that stuff on it) for about ten bucks and absolutely played the shit out of it.
Is it the recording from 1959? If it is, we're definitely talking the same thing.
Man, so much classical stuff on vinyl is just gold. And easy to find, too - lots in Vinnies boxes, say, for not much at all.
Yeah...I'm enjoying going through this stuff. I've been told a greater appreciation sometimes comes from having some sort of background information on the composers and the writing of the pieces.
Out of this stuff I've been going through I think the....damn the thread munching has begun. Almost time for 6....but yeah the Ravel. I think I've enjoyed that the most so far and the Varese. The Varese is one of mine. The rest are Mrs.C's
