Ladyfest Melbourne 2009 has been announced as one as the recipients of a $10,000 grant.
Lesbians Incorporated (Llinc), who awarded the grant, said Ladyfest will share the funding with The Valley Inc, a land-based group in Northern NSW.
“We wish we could have funded all applications to LInc,” co-convenor Megan Slinning said, “We received nine applications across three states. They related to the publishing and writing of books, a film festival, youth support group, water tanks for a theatre building and the collation and display of lesbian history.”
Ladyfest Melbourne 2009 is a music and arts festival showcasing independent lesbian artists and all-female bands performing original music. Planned for November this year the program will consist of three showcase gigs, a festival of short films and girl band film clips, an art exhibition, workshops and a closing night party featuring lesbian and queer DJs.
Musical and audio equipment purchased for the festival will become part of a loan store available for future performances, rehearsals and recording.
Ladyfest co-ordinator, Erica Lewis, said, “Ladyfest 2009 is thrilled to be the main recipient of the prestigious 2009 LInc grant. The level of funding awarded to the festival will allow the Ladyfest Melbourne team to deliver a creatively rich and diverse program.”
Ladyfest will run from November 18 -22, across various venues and locations in Melbourne.
