Have there been many artists/bands who've made a comeback after a hiatus and then released a good album? Please tell me.

and why has all the U2 albums in recent memory been ''a comeback album''?
Scott Walker?
Excellent point. I think U2 were supposed to break up in the 90s but they slipped through the millennium gate on a technicality.
The Black Crowes - Warpaint. Their best record
Mark Olsom/Gary Louriis - Ready for the Flood
A lot of cunts didn't rate it but I liked ''Go Away White''. Bauhaus. Not so much a comeback album as we are better than all you cunts. Here is why. Bye.
Scott Walker's a good one. I suppose Johnny Cash returned to form in the 90s also after an ordinary decade in the 80s.
I hear Bloodflowers is meant to be a good Cure album?
Was listening to Mick Medew this morning- it's pretty damn good after 15 years away.
Everyone said that the Bowie Album 1 Outside was good. I didnt think so. I might have another listen though. It wasn't really after a long break. That black Tie white noise piece of shit came out a couple of years earlier.
Lennon - Double Fantasy. Thats another shit comeback album.
Not that I've listened to it post the week it came out,
But I liked Strays, Janes Addiction when it came out.
Don't think I'd wanna hear it again though.
That Dinosaur Jr album from a couple of years back was a peach.
Neil Diamond ''12 Songs'' and now ''Home Before Dark''
That Rick Rubin has a magic wand I tells ya.
Wow, I had exactly the same reaction to Strays. I reckon I've heard it maybe twice, but enjoyed it.
Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind. Genius and was released 7 years after his previous album of original material. Is 7 years long enough to be considered a hiatus?
Zeno Beach by Radio Birdman. Best comeback ever.
Sedition - Scientists
Not sure if that counts as they never put out an album when they were 1st together, anyway.
Vashti Bunyan's Lookaftering comes immediately to mind.
Hey ziz! Well Death Magnetic saw Metallica return to form but I am not endorsing it cos its still pretty shite! I cant distinguish between songs on it.
Beats St Anger. Tic tock tic tock.
marshall! long time!
Yeah, Metallica kinda fits. I feel a little sorry for Mr Newstead.
I've got about 5 minutes online while little munchkin man is asleep and I really need to grab a shower. Yeah Poor Jase.

i think it was simply called ''slow jam''
best comeback album -
was gonna say a couple and then looked in the fold and jrb said them. i like the new aerosmith stuff, but only after having heard them live, so not the album. andre williams first album on in the red. loretta's album with jack
James' Hey Ma, and does Nada Surf's Let Go count?
reckon let go counts good.
go-betweens - friends of rachel worth.
ten years after their last one, and they got bigger than they ever were before.
then grant went and died and fucked up the whole plan.
Little Animals - BEASTS OF BOURBON
...then again just about any new beasts album is a comeback
feedtime - Billy
I'm still waiting for the Swervedriver comeback album.
While maybe not quite 'best', did anyone rate Verve's 'Forth' album? Ashcroft's solo affairs were a bit of a let-down so maybe it's the guitars that gives the band the magic.
First record that came to mind. It's a cracker.
Go-Bees Friends on Rachel Worth is a good one, as nominated above. And Mo mentioned Everything Sucks by Decendents which rules.
I'll throw Guided By Voices' Half Smiles of the Decomposed into the ring. The couple of albums before that were a somewhat patchy but Half Smiles was great from start to finish.
Hmm, I suppose GBV weren't on hiatus though so that album's out.
Anyone mentioned Dinosaur Jr's Beyond? Great comeback record.
I'll stop posting now - 3am's no good for any kind of discourse.
my next album... willl be niothing to do with it......word

So that's a couple of votes for Dino Jr.
Here's what someone said elsewhere about the new album 'Farm':

On first listen, much better than Beyond. There's some stunning guitar action, particularly on the longer songs like ''Said The People''. I'm really, really liking this album.
Given the gap inbetween albums, I guess you could say that Built To Spill's You in Reverse is one hell of a comeback album.
blake babies - god bless the blake babies was a good one. good duet with evan dando (although it was written with ben lee so the chats will hate it).
oh and i like the recent lemonheads record, so that too.
Stooges: The Weirdness
Agreed. Top stuff for a supposedly ''Live'' album. And how awesome to sound like you never split up!?
Aerosmith: Permanent Vacation (I know technically, the comeback was Done With Mirrors, but PV is an amazing comeback).
I know that doesn't make sense. Still drunk?
