What have you watched recently? A bit like the ''what are you listening to right now'' thread or ''books read 2009'' thread, but for fillums.
I did a dafaddaffss, but there didn't appear to be anything. I'll start....
Dangerous Liasons, the other night at home and Gomorra last night at the cinema. Wasn't great, despite being ''presented by Martin Scorcese''.

Gomorrah and Synecdoche, New York. That's just this week.
Good idea.
I justfinished rewatching ''Wicker Man'' the orginal one with Brit Eckalnd, Edward Woodwood and Christopher Lee. Classic. Good book too...
saw Mad Dog Morgan last night. There's an awesome scene at the beginning when Dennis Hopper goes and smokes opium in the goldfields' 'China Town'. When the white guys come to attack the chinese for being chinese, Hopper's sidekick gets shot in the head. There's an amazing close up of this development.
Is it me, or did Gomorra not really go anywhere? I had to read the wiki entry to figure out what the fuck was going on and even afterwards, decided that nothing really happened, except some nasty Italian criminals got what was coming to them, but they were all scumbags anyway, so it didn't really matter.
45mins of The Room. (need to do this film in bite size pieces. it's too much)
Synecdoche New York. (yeah)
Five Shaolin Masters. (Shaw Brothers Kung Fu action. The five technique showdown is ace.)
Human Lanterns (Kung Fu Horror, with bad guys that turn their victims in to human skin lanterns. Very good.)
Kinky Boots about four weeks ago while holed up in a converted train carriage at Neville in sub-freezing conditions. Awesomely amusing.
I watched Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus on wed night.
Absolutely fucking horrible in every way - and hilarious.
C grade film done with a budget of about 50 bucks. I've also seen better acting in a porno, and the lighting is over saturated in every scene. They also use the same location for the bridge of two different ships, but make them ''different'' by flooding one in red lights and one in blue lights. Magic!
I am still undecided whether I think this film was outstanding or fucking awful.
Synecdoche, New York at the cinema the other day.
Hunger again, this time on DVD. Great film.
The Orphanage (El Orfanato) by the same people as Pan's Labyrinth - one of the better ghost stories.
I love the Orphanage. Fucking amazing film.
Orphange sounds good. I'll have to check that one out.
The Orphanage is well spooky.
Tonight we might watch Gosford Park again.
CJ7.
It actually wasn't half bad. Comical. The CJ7 (Alien dog) was incredibly entertaining as was the exagerated acting by the asian children.
Most of Frank Miller's The Spirit..lost interest about 20 minutes before the end of it..
saw yes man (flimsy, feeble, basically another poor one note comedy from jim carrey) and vicky christina barcelona (woody allen in familiar territory talking about the neurotic sexual hang-ups of the obscenely wealthy. it's not bad and scarlett johansen/javier bardem is pretty)
I saw The Orphanage twice. Great film.
Anyone seen that Italian film about the Opus Dei family with the daughter dying of cancer?
watched valkyrie on dvd last night. was good.
saw angels and demons on monday night at the kino - i realised why the missus had suggested it about two minutes in when Ewan Macgregor strutted onto the screen. I didn't leave early so I guess it can't have been all bad
Watched a film called Shotgun Stories last night...really enjoyed it.
Check it oot: Shotgun Stories
Also watched Otto; Or Up With Dead People...it was shithouse.
more info on shotgun stories please LP.

hmm maybe not that sad, maybe I was just overly emo, I did think the bits where he remembered his childhood were sad, and some of the ceremonial scenes, great ending though. what does WBP mean?
I'd give it 4.5 stars.
Yeah saw this a few months back - great film, though overly sentimental at parts.
WBP = wizard bong points
I wasn't as impressed by departures as I was hoping. Some of the acting/story was a little off for me. I was fascinated by the cultural aspects of working on the dead tho and the social standing that goes along with it. If you liked separtures I highly recommend you check out Cherry Blossoms. It's a bit more arthouse but emotionally engaging and culturally fascinating.
separtures=Departures
well i love cherry blossoms...i'll have to view it. thanks boston.
Bloods and Crips: Made in America
Dear Stacy Peralta,
This ''doco'' was the biggest piece of propaganda shite I have watched in years. You blamed black gang violence on everything from the boy scouts of america to being oppressed by Da Man to Fuck Da Police to cotton-pickin' slavery. You simultaneously demanded ''the man'' take action, while claiming that ''the man'' doesnt think enough of african americans to sort out their own problems. You glossed over looting in riots. You made only the most minute mention of the crack trade and never really linked it to turf warfare. You really only talked about the opposing gangs for about 20 minutes - the rest of the film was a history lesson about as balanced as a Mike Moore film.
I loved you when you were on my Powell Peralta skateboard, perhaps stick to skating?
half a star
The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around The Corner - Stephan Komandarev (2008 Bulgaria) Bulgaria's lovely, sentimental, meditation on life and memory. A nice little heart tugger. Also their academy entry this year. 4 stars.
Crazy Heart - Scott Cooper (2009 USA) Excellent performance from Bridges. Lovely bit part by Duval, yet again showing us all how it's really done. Essentially this is 'The Wrestler' set in the country and western scene. What let this down was perhaps the believability of a relationship between bridges and Gyllenhaal and the superfluous final scene. 3 stars
Crazy Heart wasn't too bad. I must admit I was really distracted by Maggie G. pulling the same expression all the time. Kind of this blissed-out ''love me, I'm adorable'' face. You know the one. I started to become really aware of it about half way through and it became this silly little thing that bugged me. Funny, I haven't ever noticed this with her before.
Saw Hurt Locker yesterday. There is so much hand-held in and out of focus stuff going on that sitting in the middle of a very large screen cinema and wearing multifocal glass, I felt very ill until I moved right up the back and took my glasses off.
It's a very convincing portrayal of what it must be like to be one of the guys who has to disarm car and roadside bombs in Baghdad every day. Not much of a story, just a fly on the wall observation.
More than a game:
Being a big basketball fan helps but no matter what this documentary is worth it's viewing time. I was close to tears a couple of times.
I watched The Beach on Channel 10 again last night. Not a great film, but I did enjoy it.
Saw 'Whip It' last night. much better than I expected, really enjoyed it.
avatar - thought it was a steaming pile of shit, if i want ''sick graphics'' i'll play a video game.....
saw funny people finally - loved it - and not a huge seth rogan fan or an apatow fun but i thought it had some heart there
Me too. Beautiful scenery, at least.
I watched Deep Red the other night. THAT FUCKEN DUMMY!
lets continue this here
I watched Salvador - I don't think I like the US government; 3/5wbp
And then some movie with johnny drama's brother in it that was shot in cambodia and should have been shit but wasn't - I think because it was filmed in cambodia which currently seems like vietnam's problem child brother in the tourist stakes. 3.5/5wbp
City of Ghosts - starring Matthew Raymond Dillon and written and directed by him too.
I reckon I could write reviews for faster louder.
James Woods is unbelievable in Salvador.
Un Prophet - frikken orsum stuff
