I concur with yoghurt X 100000000000000000000000000000.
Could really use a remaster. Reissue too, for that matter (assuming it's still out of print).
Love it. Here's the controversial plug when it came out.
experimentaletc.blogspot.com might still have the download.
HollyC should try and sneak some onto JJJ - it will increase the ratings for sure!
thanks hypnotoad. your a real diamond you are!
I got the reissue vinyl of ebay, i think its harder to get on compact discal.
It is a very hard to find on CD but the vinyl reissues are pretty easy to come by. Great album, almost as good as Trout Mask.
i'd say better! more concise.
you may think i'm crazy...
I've managed to sneak the Bird Blobs on...surely the good Captain is the next natural musical progression...
Pfft. Not even close. Just put some Beefheart on and say it's Tom Waits.
love him, but never really understood trout mask, not that i think the point is to understand it
Two votes for Decals over Trout Mask.
Lick My Decals Off Baby is a great album but Trout Mask easily trumps it because
That's funny, because the only bits that irk me about Trout Mask are the Zappa production and the field recording bits.
How can you not like the field recordings jrb? What about the great part on Hair Pie (Bake 1 I think) when it segues from the band playing outside to the studio recording. Genius.
I kind of get the feeling that Zappa wasn't too sympathetic towards the music - the field recordings especially seem to be about showcasing the freakiness of the performers rather than the swesomeness of the music. My guess is that Zappa aproached the album, at least in part, as one of his amateur anthropology projects.
I'm with spruik. More doesn't equal better.
PS Zappa sucks.
More doesn't equal better.
No you're right it doesn't, but more Beefheart = better.
PS Zappa rulez.
Does anyone know what time signature the instrumental breakdown in Doctor Dark is? It does my head in that song (in a good way though).
