Dane Centre death?

hand hell  said about 5 years ago  or at  4:52PM on Sunday, November 5 2006 in chat

Anyone know what happened at the Dane Centre rehearsal rooms in Brunswick a couple of days ago? I was walking down Victoria street and both ends of Leslie St were closed of by cops. Ambulance out the front. Emergency rescue crews, black tarpaulins on the road. No-one would tell me what was going on. Then I walked past today and there was this small memorial display near the Dane Centre loading bay - fresh flowers surrounded by empty VB bottles. It was rather sad and touching....I'm just wondering what happened. Didn't see anything on the news or in the paper.

I was told (dunno if it's true or not) they found a body in a burnt out van.

Hmmmmm.

That would explain the orange-suited emergency crews. I wonder if the car actually burnt or just the person. Can't tell from the above report.

Revenge of the black shirts....

who didn't pay for rehersal?

djbollocks  said about 5 years ago:

maybe it was a rare case of spontaneous combustion

I always thought Leslie Street was kinda creepy. The Bermuda Triangle of Brunswick. On one corner there's the Victoria Hotel, frequented by some VERY shady characters, run by an ex-Cop. Then the Blackshirts at the Dane, the Taxicab mafia down the lane, the panelbeaters stripping stolen cars, the meatworks and the low-rent artist studios. Perfect combination.

Dane Centre Death would make a half-decent band name

Was just talking about this with dudewolf last night. He knows the full story, and I tell you something, its creepy. CREEEEEEPY!!!!!!!!!!!!! More creepy when you know that you live about 2 minutes from a triangle of terror.

PS: I've never found the black shirts that creepy, except for the richie benau lookalike.

They've painted over the black dane symbols on the side.
So glad I haven't been there for years

I jam at ''Wick Rehearsals'', as it is now known, every week... They got new owners a while ago so no more kooky Paul wandering around frequently saying ''cool man'', or his lovely wife Tits McGee, which is a shame. Richie Benaud won't be missed. New owners are younger dudes, but are pretty uptight. It's ok I guess, sorta, but it's now $60 for a small room, they're properly licensed so you can't smoke inside anymore, can't BYO (but our bassist does anyway, the rebel) and beers are expensive. Plus they now have mega-annoying plastic covers over the PA so you can't mess with it.
Pretty lame, actually.

I'm still interested in hearing the creepy story.

untold/animals  said about 1 year ago:

Me too. Also, Dane Death Certificate is the better of all the band names that could arise from this.

Personally I think these new guys are a bunch of fuckwits. Part of the reason we decided to get our own studio. Fuck paying them $60 a night and be treated so rudely. They think they are a cut above the rest. The rooms sound like shit, overpriced, cant touch the PA, parking is a pain in the ass, their load in trolleys are shitfull, mics taste like ass crack or bleach, mic stands are useless, drink machine is always out of order, not the right drinks in the drink machine and the girl at the counter pumps cheesy female prog rock and gives you a stink eye if you interrupt her playing on facebook.

Seriously 3 phase is much better. And the place in North Coburg is ok.
