I don`t know much about this area... I got Fireballs and Rev Horton Heat... what else is there?

bullit.
get some cramps up ya
are cramps rockabilly?
Try the original shit before modern rehash. Charlie Feathers is the king. Also Carl Perkins, Sonny Burgess, Johnny Powers, etc.
i'll second charlie feathers
Not that the Cramps are rehash, they're just the Cramps.
Yeah, dig out the original stuff.
I'd add Wanda Jackson to Rigid's list.
The Born Bad comps that collect the original songs that The Cramps covered are great. And the Loud Fast And Out Of Control box set is a good starting point.
For modern stuff Southern Culture On The Skids are OK but they're not straight rockabilly.
One man band Reverend Beatman is pretty cool.
The latest issue of RS is tipping Dan Sartain to be the next big thing in rockabilly but it sounds pretty uninspired to me.
The Heavy Trash record (featuring Jon Spencer) that came out last year was OK too.
Rockabilly....
Stray Cats!!!!!!
That's a honk in QI styee Reverb
ahhh touché. I love that programme. Wasn't really expecting game show rules to be in real life...
awesome thanks everyone... I`ll let you know how I go listening to this stuff...
i've been slowly getting into rockabilly too, bullet - someone suggested the Rockin' Bones box set as a good starting point - i've got the first few discs, and theyre great.
ace PunchDrunk.... I`ll scope it out too.
That Charlie Feathers is some nice gear there...
Check out Bunker Hill. Punk rock 20 years before The Ramones.
melbourne has one rockabilly girl too many. in fact, I think every city has one rockabilly girl too many.
Yeah I just bought one of those Born Bad comps this weekend and it is brilliant.
I’m no rockabilly expert, but I really dig The Mad Men. One of the best new bands I’ve come across in recent months. But I don’t get out that much. Here they are on You Tube below.
And I screwed that linkage up.
i hate rockabilly girls
fuck fringes
buddy, how did you get the born bad comp? i've never been able to find them, only download.
in a similar vein (with massive overlap) the 'songs the cramps taught us' cds (vols 1 2 and 3) are unbelievable

If anyone's looking for a decent Charlie Feathers comp on vinyl, I picked up one called
which has singles and B-Side from '56-'58 and features most of his early classics like 'One Hand Loose' and 'Get With It'. I think it might be deleted, like much of his stuff, but as it only came out a couple of years ago you might find one somewhere.
That album's called Liaison Field (strange title), it seems to have disappeared in the post above.
Cheers geneclark70 I will keep my eye for Liason fields.
I ordered the Feathers 3 lp Norton releases and a big thank you to dzerzhanzhinskii for Hasil Atkins pointer - I dig all those chicken shack songs.
killer show coming up at the Luwow this Thu 5th Jan featuring Rusty Pinto and Pat Capocci. I've never seen Rusty Pinto play before, but Pat Capocci is the real deal. Great guitar picker, one of the best on the local scene, and awesome stage presence. pure 50's rockabilly mixed in with some r'n'b.

Pat Capocci is the last of the greats. It's a real shame that he isn't more well known. He has the style down. Just amazing stuff.
And uh for the first poster: Elvis - Sun Sessions is the best place to start
Eddie fucken Cochran, man. Gone at 21 - what he could have been :(
I dunno voidster. He was already going pop at the behest of his label. His good stuff totally slays though.
Big Sandy And The Fly Rite Boys are coming over from the states in March. One of the best Rockabilly act playing at the moment (and the last 15 years)! Not pure rockabilly, they also do hillbilly and honky tonk country. They be playing at The Luwow as well as Lucky 13 garage in Moorabbin.
Is this the place to talk about Psychobilly too?
Actually, nah fuck it. What's everyone's opinion on Elvis's gospel era?
It's his best stuff outside of the Sun recordings.
Looking forward to this!
Sun Sessions is the best by far. All of his albums have their moments. But I've been reluctant to check out the Gospel stuff. I don't know why. It's usually in the form of like a 5 CD set for $10 or something, you know?
It's worth it! Some of the ballads are a little sappy but, damn, Elvis sure sings it all right from the heart.
A mate of mine in America has just put together a 7 disc home-compiled set of the best of 50s rockabilly and sent me a copy... fabulous stuff for the car. He even did his own liner notes! Who says the art of the mix tape is dead?
EDDIE COCHRAN
Thanks Geneclarke 70 for the Charlie tips...
Can you please help a cockhead out.......... what’s a good vinyl starting point for Eddie??
There's a million and one compilations of his main '50s stuff. That's pretty much all you need.
This is what I got:

cheers JRB i will track a copy down
the Rechords are playing Sundays at the Gem. the guys are in rare form! Highly encourage fans of rockabilly/hillbilly/honky tonk music to attend.
