From the FAQ:

Q: Will I be getting paid?
A: No. But who needs cash when you're vibing out with your creative idols, right?

So the idea is to harvest the creative energy of young people without paying them a cent, right?

gabbo  said about 2 years ago:

what does this say for the creative individuals who already work at Modular?

All they could come up with is this idea-stealing network?

GENIUS!

what i like most about it is that on the press release they call for ''journalists'', then on the application they ask about ''copywriting'' skills.

i was thinking about applying and then writing a tell-all if i got accepted, but, well, i guess that's not going to happen.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Wow! This truly is pathetic.

temporarybenbutler  said about 2 years ago:

Maybe they're not getting paid either so they think it's okay.

FlipYourWig  said about 2 years ago:

That is fucked on so many levels..I knew these people were parasites..but this pretty sad. I pity any of the desperate fucks who will sign up for this...

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

is spelling a required skill?

toadphoney  said about 2 years ago:

Who are the creative idols you get to meet?

kuroneko  said about 2 years ago:

I support any organisation that offers some sort of mentorship or decent work experience for youngsters and industry juniors (not just making the tea and checking the mail), but I can't stand the ''O HEY KIDS! COOLEST THING EVER!!!!!111!'' angle.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

And you know they will sign up. Unfortunately the joke is on Modular, as most creative people wouldn't have a bar of this exploitative and cynical exercise and would be creating their own opportunities independently.

I meant ideas, k2. Have they brainstormed anything yet?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

ha ha, __v

Apparently a flamewar with Mess and Noise will open up some really exciting spaces that might repay further exploration and development.

k2  said about 2 years ago:

i think they may have brainstormed some opinions of m&n. I can see the butchers paper now..

k2  said about 2 years ago:

snap!

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Butchers' paper? Surely Modular can afford a whiteboard.

__v  said about 2 years ago:

White is a bit 2006 - maybe a mid-grey herringbone? I think we should run this by the marketing department.

THE GROOP - KICK STARTS

As you may or may not of heard, The Groop has been decided, and their first session was held on Tuesday night. Among a cold beer and a slice of pizza, friendships have been forged and collaborations brewed. We can now officially say, we have a very special and unique collection of people.

In other news, thegroop.com.au is now live. With works from Groop members being showcased, guest speaker profiles, random articles and anything interesting in the Groop’s world, it’s a great insight to what we’re all about. We also would like to extend a warm welcome for you, (yes - you) to join the banter by discussing on any or all of the posts, which are being updated very regularly.

Talk of street teaming me in the Readers' Poll thread reminded to check in and see what the Groop has been up to.
Hmm, not much.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Wagons .... Manson family group shot .... The Groop. Hmmm... connect the goddamn dots!

toadphoney  said about 2 years ago:

No... Tim Burke and his cronies are in on this shit. I'm almost positive.

I'm going to ring Modular's office and ask to speak to him. See if I can't spook out the admin lady.

*T*he Groop w*i*ll be made up of 14 successful applicants who will be given the opportunity to directly contribute to the creative strategy of *M*odular Ideas.

The Groop is a collection of creative thinkers who share the philosophy that innovation and ideas are what drives *bu*siness today and not vice ve*r*sa.

The Groop is loo*k*ing for the cr*e*am of Sydney’s young, aspiring creative professionals; photographers, journalists, creative directors, copywriters, art directors, web designers, filmmakers, illustrators, graphic designers, digital ninjas…
