reidthemighty  said about 2 years ago  or at  3:59PM on Thursday, April 30 2009 in books

I not a big reader, but this book is the shit ever. Due to be made into an AWESOME blockbuster called, ''Scott Pilgrim vs. the World'' starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. (chick from deathproof) Directed by Edgar Wright. It's sure to be a hit with the kids/chats. (fuck it, everyone)

Written by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Super extra awesome books.

Michael Cera is rotten casting though. Unless of course he can do that whole acting, playing more than one character thing, but why start now?

I bought the first two and hated them. What are they up to now?

Just saw this - so much better than what I had expected!

You saw the full movie eep!? Or just the trailer(s)?

OAAD  said about 1 year ago:

Trailer 3 has got me very, very anticipatory:

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

I'm pretty excited about the movie, but even more excited that the final volume of the comic is coming out in a couple of weeks. Currently re-reading the earlier ones in anticipation.

OAAD  said about 1 year ago:

The film is down to show once at Melbourne International Film Festival, but then opens the week later anyway... why do they bother programming it?

CaptainHowdy  said about 1 year ago:

i'm a scottaholic. painfully excited about the final volume being released this month, and excited enough about the movie to probably see it early at MIFF.

I, too, have a boner for Vol 6's imminent arrival

Tagline ''an epic of epic epicness''. Looks like fun.

mud  said about 1 year ago:

Last book is rad.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

did you buy it or download it? is it in shops in Australia today or tomorrow? i need answers!

mud  said about 1 year ago:

Uh, the former. But I certainly will buy. The recent books have been a real fuckaround to get a hold of when they first come out. But they probably printed a truckload of copies this time round.

mud  said about 1 year ago:

No, I mean the latter. Blergh.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

couldn't hold out. downloading now.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

Jesus Christ. That was seriously fucking incredible.

I went to this as a fan of Edgar Wright's work, not having seen the books. While I can appreciate the stylistic inventiveness

Lol, ''work''... You speak as if Shaun of the Dead is art.

i'm slow on the uptake, saw this last night, I laughed at numerous times, so therefore it was worth the $8.

Saw this on the weekend and couldn't get past the first 40 min. Like Cameron Crowe and Spike Jonze collaborating on an indie version of 'Thats So Raven'.

Thought I was the only one that didn't like it.

pollyphonic  said about 1 year ago:

Also saw this on the weekend. Did not enjoy much really although some of the little cartoonish bits and pieces were quite quirky and engaging... and Michael Cera is definitely a one trick pony... and given that I don't really think his one trick is all that awesome I'd give this flick a swerve actually... so no poprocks96, you're not the only one who didn't like it :-)

k2  said about 1 year ago:

I can imagine that if you didnt grow up in the 80's / 90's and especially if you weren't into video games, you'd be thinking pfft

The film was chock full of game references (along with game music and pop culture references). I'm not sure I'd think it was a great film based on it's pop-culture references alone, but it did a brilliant job of acknowledging the existence of a gamer sub-culture that no previous film has been able to get right. This one did.

pollyphonic  said about 1 year ago:

Well I got all those references and I thought that stuff was stylistically quite cool. I just didn't like the film much. It went for way too long and wasn't very interesting... actually in the main the characters just weren't that interesting. I liked Knives though. But Scott - what a bland uninteresting little tosser! Was kinda hoping one of the evil ex(e)s would finish him off tbqh!!

untold/animals  said about 10 months ago:

I saw this last night, and thought it was pretty lacking. The visual effects were good when subtle. Casting was way off and the storyline poorly framed. Ended up hating almost all the characters. I won't be eating there again, bitches!
