in the process of looking for a car, I've jagged a (common) scam artist.
Any ideas on how i can string him along further?
Here's the email thread so far... (my emails in bold)... hehe....

Hello,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my car. I sell at this price(AU$7,000.00) because i just finished the divorce with my husband. When the divorce has finished i own this car. Now as a women i don't need. This car is in excellent working conditions, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions and comes with a clear title, 3 months transferable warranty.
From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request ONLY secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services. We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account for $20.000.00Au. The final price that I want for this car is AU$7,000.00 including shipping and handling.
PS If you are interested in buying it please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through eBay.
I will wait your answer(if you are interested to buy) very soon!!
Thank you and have a nice day

Hello again,
I'm really sorry for you but i think is to late for inspection because i'm not in the country for the moment (like you know i just finished the divorce with my husband and i have moved to my parents home in
New York/10001/USA for a while.)
And ship company already prepared the car for ship. I want to tell you that is to late for inspection and the only way that we can close this deal is to make me a deposit of ($4.000.00Au) to eBay so i could start the ship. In case that you are still interested please email me your final answer.
I will ship my car from Darwin/Australia You will have 15 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. If by any reason, you will not be satisfied for the car, you will return the car to shipping company with no xpence. I will pay for shipping.
Thank you for all and if you have other questions please reply to my email.

Hi Vanessa,
I hope everything is going ok. Divorce is such a hard thing to go through. A friend of mine is in a very similar situation and we have been supporting them a lot lately. Stay positive and I'm sure it will all work out for the best.
Great to hear you have made the move to New York though. Its beautiful this time of year!
Now, in regards to the car. I am definitely still interested as the Forester is our preferred model, over the Nissan X-Trail. Also the 2005 model is a particularly good one due to some incremental engine improvements.
I think I am just about ready to transfer the money but can you confirm what colour the car is?
Also what account do I transfer the money to? I must confess I am new to computers so have not ordered anything from ebay or anything like that.
Thanks,
Pete**

gold.
keep us informed
i did this once a couple of years ago with a Nigerian scammer. I kept him hanging like you have, told him i would leave my wife for the money, asked him to buy a boat with me when we got it, asked him if he thought he might turn gay with me etc etc until i admitted i was puling his leg
He got all angry and asked me why I was joking him and i pointed out he was scamming me and he agreed all fair in love and war.
Then we had a fair few more emails about why he does it, how life is so bad in Nigeria and how the gov there screws them all over
Was fun, lasted about 6 weeks and entertained everyone in the office when i would have a new email from him in the morning
I still have a copy of the emails back and forward...
it continues....

Hello again,
If you wish to go on with this deal and in order to open a case at ebay, please send me your full name and shipping address and they will contact you with more details,I'm a serious seller and if you don't want to buy it just let me know, I have other buyers waiting for me to contact them.
Thank you
to which i replied...
Hi Vanessa,
Please dont sell the item - I am definitely keen. Happy to pay the full amount.
I do need to know what colour it is though. As a woman yourself, I'm sure you can appreciate the importance of colour. My wife is particularly keen on lilac, or magenta. If its white we may have a problem.
Also, re ''full shipping address'' - I'm not sure what you mean, do you mean the address of my shipping company? Can we do it via train? Shipping sounds expensive.
Many thanks for helping me so far and for showing patience and understanding. I did the google on ebay and they seem like a reputable world wide site.
Thanks,
Pete
hahahaha
ha. funny.
Hahaha
Get him to do something. i.e. say your friend is in whatever city he is in will meet him at such and such a place and such and such a time. Make it a really dangerous part of town. Say they have ALL the money for the car. That'll get him pissed off.
There's a website about people who try to get these scammers.
hahahahaha, gold.
419eater.com
check out the hall of shame hahaha
Alternately you could scam them, say you can access loads of cash if then send you a bit of money.
good stuff.
That website is crazy! People spend so much time and effort in scamming scammers. I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Oh my god, that 8 page one about the guy who gets the scammer to send him photos of his penis for ''religious reasons'' is pretty much one of my favourite things on the internet.
Er, by 'one' I mean 'submission on '419eater'
Well guess what, I am also just going through a transaction with this person. Exactly the same emails as you - exactly. I went as far as sending the money (I know - I was stupid) but managed to cancel the transaction before it was collected at the other end. More fool me. I finally caught her out by saying I had a friend in Darwin (which I do have) who would like to go and view the car. This only happened yesterday. Guess what - no emails from the mysterious Ms Cubriel today. And she sent some beautiful certificates from eBay saying she was a titanium seller. Have to laugh. Well at least I can now :) String her out as long as you can. I love her come-backs. Good luck.
I too was almost done....

Oh I could go on for ages.....but to cut a long story short
**I asked for a VIN so i could do a REVs check, was told all the papers where with the car. Was sent photos of certificates stating that they were a platum seller on ebay...Phat Imports...more bells...PHAT is a work Asian use!! Hence broken English!
Looked them up on Ebay Items sold and a member since 2007...the certificates were dated 2006!!
I was told I could have the car for 15 days and then if I still wwanted it I could send the rest of the money if not she would take the car back and refund my money
My last email to ''her''**
Sorry unless I can do a REV’s check I cannot purchase the car.

**when i was telling my brother he laughed and said he was almost done but with a boat!!
I think this person should be reported what do you others think is it worth our time? **
are you people retarded or something?
No if we were retarded we have sent the money without a REV's check!! I have heard of bitter people selling Ex's prized possesions for close to nothing....I did ask for proof that the car was now in her name!
My pic is one of the pic's I was sent ot the car....looked so genuine!! Just wish I could find the real owver to let them know what is happening!
Looks like a WA number plate.
Yes I am from WA that is part of the reason I fell for it didn't know it was in ''Darwin'' until a few emails into it!
http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/
I like the p-p-p-powerbook scam
Hey, I'm not retarded. I still just have some faith in people and as Atti said, I have also heard of people selling possessions for a fraction of the price, especially in bitter divorce settlements, just to ensure the other party doesn't get much. So it is not so unbelievable that it could happen. But boy, am I glad I got out of it.
The car rego she gave me for 'my' 2005 CLK 320 Merc was a personalised plate but I couldn't tell which state it came from. The photo showed the car with normal NSW plates outside a car dealer's yard. Obviously she goes around and take happy snaps of other people's cars and then try to flog them off as her own. Nice one.
I got exactly the same emails (she obviously has a nice little set-up). The worst part is that I am sure many people have sent her the money. A nice little earner - for doing nothing.
And yes, she should be reported and I will be doing just that. The real eBay site has an email address where you can email them with information about scam sellers.
Didn't the terrible English have alarm bells ringing in your head?
Nah, I know many people, particularly Asians, who speak that way and write that way. so that wasn't too hard to believe. That's why I reckon she is doing so well. People believe her to be some poor little Asian thingy who has been through a terrible divorce. Happens. Just didn't happen to her !! Checked her name and there are a few more sites with Ms Cubriel on there including one from the courts in Texas in a child custody case. Unfortunately the documents won't open. I'd love to read the court's decision.
That powerbook scam is sooo good.
checked out the powerbook scam - brilliant. wish i could have dragged ms cubriel through something like that. revenge is so sweet. oh well. maybe someone else will be smart enough to do it to her.
I very nearly got scammed just then by a fake email claiming to be from eBay. It said I'd had to many failed login attempts and my account was ''limited''. It then asked for a whole heap of my personal details to confirm I was the correct user of my account. Had me going until it asked for my pin number. Fucken cunts.
What is happening in this world for crying out loud. Is everybody out there trying to rip us off? How are you supposed to trust anybody after being exposed to all the scams out there? And if you can't trust an email as originating from ebay - who the hell can you trust????
