Matt Church to curate ATP 2010

Independent home recording juggernaut Matt Church is set to curate the second Australian outing of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival, which is scheduled to take place in January 2010 at venues in Mt. Buller, Sydney and Brisbane.

Artists set to appear include all of Matt's previous musical incarnations, as well as proposed appearances by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, among several other old guard, authentic maestros.

The festival, famed for showcasing obscure bands under the guidance of successful underground artists, has played host to numerous curators overseas including Thurston Moore, Mogwai, The Mars Volta. washed up has-been Nick cave has clearly set the tone for future curators, by ensuring the job falls to someone who is more obscure and irrelevant than any of the bands they summon.

A spokesperson for the organisers of the festival was quoted as saying ''We think it's unfair that only talented, popular or critically acclaimed musicians get their voices heard. It's about time we recognised the battlers, who have the whole Australian music scene gunning for them. The ones who no matter how many chances they have been given, can't convince people they are worth listening to, or have something to offer''

Previous manifestations of the event are well known for their unique locations. Whilst the British versions of ATP are hosted in Butlin's holiday parks, settings for the first Australian ATP included a remote ski resort and former prison island. The front bar at the Eltham hotel was Church's first choice for a venue next year, followed, after negotiations with management of the venue, by the suggestion that it could be held in his backyard.

there once was a website promoting sneakers or whatever, and it had a feature where YOU ''curated'' your own festival and selected bands based on a limited budget and then you made a poster for it. that was fun.

More likely to be curated by a committee of 25 named curators, all of which are pseudonyms for Matt

Can we mock this up as a press release and send it to the Street Press?

the tone was about right, but you needed a pull quote from matt:

''this year.... will be the most incredible coming together.... not too much...but just the right amount. I'd love to have a beer with everyone there and explain why years of toil matter... and how success is relative...''
