Shopping in Berlin

superhero  said about 2 years ago  or at  7:52PM on Saturday, March 21 2009 in chat

Does anyone know any nice places to go? I don't want anywhere full of chain stores and nike stores or whatever... just lots of cool little shops, independent stores and yeah... shops full of awesome things. NEED TO SPEND MONEY.

ask jimmytrash maybe

I would try kreuzberg maybe, we tried in the big shopping centres but they sucked, I got some rad chocolate and a beer for like 1 euro in a supermarket.

Mitte district, around Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Also check out the markets.

Some ideas to start

jimmytrash  said about 2 years ago:

nah search the weird boutiques of kreuzberg 36....

superhero  said about 2 years ago:

I was heading out that direction anyway (Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz) so I might check that out. Kreuzberg is sort of close to where we are staying so that can be a walking trip in a few days.

Thanks y'all!

I really liked Friedrichshain for shopping. In one of the shops there I picked up a very handy free booklet called 'Einoo' that lists lots of cool clothing stores around Berlin (and maps of the various shopping areas). It's in English and German.

I'm no expert on shopping, but the whole area around Hackescher Markt and Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz (Scheunenviertel) is known for its boutique stores. Tom Cruise gets his sunnies from IC! Berlin in Max-Beer-Straße! One insane celebrity Scientologist can't be wrong!

Try Bergmannstr. in Kreuzberg

Definitely the markets. Go to the Prenlauer Berg flea market in Mauer park on a sunday.

treptow market is the best

humana (5 level op shop) on karl marx allee is good but a bit overpriced

grunberger strasse in friedrichshain has a few good op shops

Gorn  said about 2 years ago:

What part of karl marx allee pagey?

yokota  said about 2 years ago:

Pretty sure that 'humana' that pagey is refering to is on the cnr of Karl Marx Allee & Petersburger str (where the Frankfurter Tor U bahn station is).

Yeah I highly recommend the Mauer Park flea Markets, especially in spring/summer, The markets at boxi can be pretty good as well.

Gorn  said about 2 years ago:

Near that overpriced and scary Burger King?

Yeah love the Mauer Park market, got some great records there (even in Winter). Also the wurst stand there is one of the best in Berlin.

Don't miss Tukadu - a little make-your-own jewellery/beadstore gallery. They have two stores, one in Hackeschen Markt and another in Kollwitzplatz.

If you have any creative bones in yr body, you'll love this place.

Due to leaving my shoes with my shoe guy and mixing up the dates I can't pick them up until I leave.

Are there any shops there which sell Rocco's -esque leather boots?

zoothorns  said about 11 months ago:

Mauer Park market is a rip off, and you are a complete idiot if you pay any of those prices.

go to friedrichshain markets or neukolln if you want cheap, good shit. you need to ferret around though. at least you avoid all the dickheads at mauerpark as an added bonus.
