Got this last night. Completely different set of sounds to Black Ships.... Lots of big electric guitars, Tibet seems less frantic and I guess more human. After two complete listens I'd say it's not as good as *Black Ships Ate The Sky *. But what is?
It would've been nice to have the album peppered with contributions from different vocalists, but still, there is nothing else like him and more than grateful for any music he gifts us.
Does anyone know if the drummer from Om played on this? It really sounds like it, and they did that split so they are obviously aware of each others music.
Yeah, I love Tibet's voice but it does get too much over the course of a 70 minute album. My favourite songs on BSATS are the ones where he isn't singing.
Have you got this new one yet Shaun?
Not yet, the prospect of a new Current 93 is a little overwhelming.
More than the prospect of a new post-prison Burzum album (with guitars)?
Nah, you need to pick apart a C93 record. Burzum only requires you to half-close your eyes and zone out.
Seriously though, is Burzum gonna release another album? Has he said he would?
I'm just being optimistic, I guess. A quick google search turned up this quote though.
From an interview with Varg:
If there is any hope for a resurrection in the future? In the case I release another album it will be something new altogether. If it sounds just like any other band I won't bother. For now I only have a few new songs, but I guess it is not unlikely that I will make more music in the future.
Wow. I wonder what he'll do, probably not metal? I also wonder whether he'll ever start performing live. Seems unlikely and it'd probably ruin the fun a bit...
Maybe a collaboration with David Tibet? Imagine that.
This album has called me back this week. It is prickly and a little insular but there is evidentally more than enough magic(k) to warrant delayed cravings. Incredible.
Also got Sleep Has His House last week, I'm really trying to pace myself with C93 releases for fear of not having the attention to receive their gifts in the event of a greedy and compulsive self-inflicted inundation.
There is a severe lack of people that are able to or willing to harp on about C93 in my spheres. I feel like this music demands discussion and dissection.
I'm currently listening to this album and it seems to have a lot more menace this time around. Epic.
That's the problem, I think - like COIL, it's hard for me sometimes to unpick why I like this stuff.
Just bought the 2XLP. Can't wait.
