speaking of the gmail, would someone be so kind as to PM me with the new password?

kazpatafta  said about 3 years ago:

Could someone PM me it too.

On the subject of the band though, too derivative for me. The melodies especially just sound too familiar. I wanted to like it, I really did!

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah highly derivative but highly enjoyable as well.

I saw them support The Wedding Present last December :)

BTW, perhaps more C81 than C86, but what do you make of Wake The President?

mr.suit  said about 3 years ago:

saw them when they still had a drum machine. i win. good time to say that Summer Cats have a split 7'' with POBPAH out on Slumberland. there be copies at Polyester.

also y'all should BUY their album don't just download it. It's one of the few decent O/S releases to get local distro in recent times, make the most of it...

carlos esq  said about 3 years ago:

I listened to the album on repeat heaps last week. Very likeable. 'Young Adult Friction' gets me all woozy-like.

Woollen Kits  said about 3 years ago:

I looked for it today, couldn't find it.

Woollen Kits  said about 3 years ago:

I was at Missing Link though.

I've completely changed my mind about this album, it's magnificent. There's a Church/Cure thing there, and that lyrical sweetness is evident throughout, but it doesn't strike me as verging into ''Dawson's Creek'' territory.

astrousersasmind  said about 1 year ago:

Same, took a while but I'm really liking it now.

max bulk  said about 1 year ago:

These guys get excoriated in Collapse Board. As do every band that make a conspicuous effort to do something great, I feel.

christography  said about 1 year ago:

totally agree with max. its abit of a grower

illywhacker  said about 1 year ago:

New album is great.

wrongheaded  said about 1 year ago:

i like the new pains! Girl of 1000 dreams is probably their best song

it's like they'rea concept band about being a coy sensitive misfit teenager, like as if PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER was a band (that book sucks)

Those who like the Pains may care to check out their side project, The Depreciation Guild. It's less twee-pop and more Cocteaus-style shoegaze, only with 8-bit/Nintendo sounds under the guitars and floating vocals (which work surprisingly well).

They originally released their album, In Her Gentle Jaws as a free download on their site; it's gone now, as it has been remastered/released on CD, but you may still be able to find a download of it somewhere.

Sadly Depreciation Guild split. Their second record, Spirit Youth was more subtle with the 8-bit sounds. There's a free earlyish EP on 8 bit peoples.
