sorry dude but your posts really just cheese me off. so who else is going? i made a last minute decision to go, convinced by local friends, booked the relatively cheap airfares, got free accom sorted etc. now the fun task of trawling through the listings everyday!
so far it's looking good for ra ra riot, analog set, belong, casiotone, efterklang, grizzly bear, maps and atlases, balmorhea, abe vigoda, +/-, school of seven bells. yeah!

naked on the vague
Glamours!
adding to my must see list... dirty projectors, yppah, akron/family (i very much like the new record), yoni wolf (solo!), themselves, restiforms, the chap, dosh... yay! oh and watching the new film 'objectified' from helvetica filmmaker gary hustwist..
yeah hcg are going - playing with the new york dolls on friday the 21st i think..
OK, the list of people registered are at http://www.themusic.com.au/sxsw/who_goes.php as of today and a number of others are rocking in as we type.
The Oz Bands are at http://www.themusic.com.au/sxsw/showcase.php with the exception of Kid Confucius and Chevelles.
The overall bands are at http://www.sxsw.com/music/shows with schedule by days at http://www.sxsw.com/music/shows/schedule
There is a music stand and Film IA stand
What else do you need to know, I go next Friday the 6th,
i don't need to know anything about you thanks. please don't thread jack anymore
hahaha
bully for you bro...
this thread is like the bart experiment lisa sets up.
nah, more like a Homer burp (000)
Get a room you two.
In Austin.
start a fucking in Austin facebook page.
If you travelled to SxSW, would you see Oz bands if they weren't your mates, or if you didn't have to cover them for Australia? Or would you spend it seeing acts you might never get a chance to see otherwise??
thinking of going in march 2011.
any tips? not going for any 'business' reasons, just thought it would be fun.
are the badge prices ($US595) worth it?
I'm pretty sure I will go to next year's too. My sis has been dead keen to go for years and I'm hoping she will fuck off her uni commitments for that semester and come over and join me.
see you there then poster! gabbo i wouldn't really bother with a badge unless you want to attend the industry panels and if you happen to have that kinda money spare (i usually don't). plus you're better off putting that money towards finding accommodation, if you don't have anywhere to stay. i've gone for the last 3 years without badges and have managed to see every show i've wanted to with a little bit of patience and organisation. badges offer you the chance to move easily between shows on a given night, so you do have to pick a show you want to see most and stay put if you go badge-less. plus you have day shows that are free to make up for the night show limitations.
sxsw is the highlight of my year for sure!
Awesome – party times ahoy!
because i'll probably only ever go once, i thought i might see how a badge would go (it seems to be priced on par with something like splendour...). I also hate queues.
odds are we won't get one then, so it might just be slumming it with everyone else.
any tips on accom etc? looks like SXSW are trying to annex as much accom in the city as possible to keep stragglers like me away.
sxsw baby will be your most useful resource for finding alternate lodgings (look at the links on the right of the page, and the forums). closer to the event, locals often will offer couches to crash on, as well as any sublets available. people looking to share hotel rooms will also post up there. sublets are also advertised on craigslist. motels in austin might be a cheaper option too, and just book it if necessary and then look for someone to share the room with you.
gabbo if you're interested, i'll send you my quasi guide to sxsw when i get home as your questions are similar to questions my friend had last year.
thanks heaps, traff. we have a party of 3 going. a couple plus a single, so we'd most likely look at getting a hotel room together. most of our queries are based around our anxiousness at getting the most out of the adventure.

Slitting? Slutting as well, I guess.
I've put up 2 days of my band-seeing up here - http://kidneypunch.tumblr.com
Andrew WK was fun tonight.
this place is kinda crazy, huh?
Oh yeah. Even heading into a cafe near where we are for refuge means more bands.
Today is going to be another big one.
What have u seen anok?
Many people turned up to see my friend's band (from Taiwan)!

Tanlines were really good.
So it's over, and the most talked about bands seemed to be Alabama Shakes, Haim and maybe Django Django.
Light Asylum were the best thing I saw.
Did not like light asylum much, but would like to hear them on record. Django django did fuck all for me.
My 5 faces were tanlines, we were promised jet packs, twilight sad, maps and atlases, and dz deathrays.
Other notables - white mystery, deafheaven, com truise, ringo deathstarr, this will destroy you, black angels, polica, 2:54, and maybe a few others.
deerhoof, kindness, cities aviv, oddisee, lower dens, r stevie moore, psychadelic horseshit, nite jewel + blondes were my winners. though the single greatest musical moment was when of montreal encored w gronlandic edit and all of emos east went apeshit.
sloppy - tanlines, jonti... the latter shouldn't sing live. ever. the former's new material is pretty bad.
had many funs. so much riding all over town. great place.
fucking hell i am broken.
Saw 61 acts.
Fuck.
Taking it very easy today.
61!?! i think we saw like 30. spent more time eating BBQ. and at that coreanos food truck.
i think i probably saw about 20-30.
the hot dog truck near mohawks on red river saved my life.
that mohawks is a cool venue huh? tiered balcony action.
yeah, pretty good. inside was a bit tiny.
the belmont was good too.
saw a few acts at mohawks. cloud nothings there went off, but narrowly missed seeing trash talk there.
we'd been in the states for 2 weeks prior and had eaten our fill already. i liked the beers though.
one band's experience at this year's sxsw
Seems like they should have done a little more research on the festival before agreeing to it, then getting shitty at it all.
I do like that they have more confidence in their sound now though, and are trying to shrug off the cultural cringe that Australia has battled with for years.
they didn't seem that shitty, just realistic. it's kinda what you'd expect maybe? i mean, i had a blast, but i don't think i could be bothered playing there. there is just so much music. so much awful awful music. unless you go in with some profile you're pretty likely to end up on bills with piles of crap. i dunno.
