Any one got a fave restaurant in Chinatown or around that area?
Chinese food or otherwise. Open for dinner.

krispy kreme wynyard.
Barbecue King, when shitfaced about 1am.
Wasabi Queen
King Kebabs
You recommending somewhere or stating your name?
BBQ King is pretty sweet. Marigold Yum Cha is super awesome! But I burnt the end of my nose off from a stream of oil from a Dim Sim.
The Golden... Ummm, something or other.
It's in Chinatown, and does the yummiest food.
Wipey, I meant.
BBQ is overpriced. The food is OK. The only thing it really has going for it is the late opening hours.
I wish we had a dumpling house in Sydders.
golden harbour?
Golden Century?
Maybe.
I think that's it, anyway.
golden arches?
golden showers?
Sorry.
I'll go and retrieve my mind from the gutter...
Back in a jiffy!
when you say dumpling house have you been to Hand Made Noodles in the burlingon centre? they make a damn good dumpling and good cheap food.
there is a really good vietnamese place on george st.
It near the mt bathamn hotel or whatever that place is called. Just up from the pawn shop and sol levy.
its a cheap place though, you wouldnt take a date there or anything.
Oceanic Cafe, opposite Central
Get dumplings at the fantastically named Chinese Noodle Restaurant on...fuck, I don't remember what street it's on.
BBQ King for the Duck/ Pork combo with an ice cold Tsing Tao.

agreed
Emperor's Garden (not the fancy schmancy restaurant one, but the cheapo looking one next to the butchery and opposite the grog shop down near Reading Cinemas) is usually pretty good. The salt and pepper squid is some of the best in Sydney.
the best place for chinese in chinatown I know only as noodle man.
it's in the old burlington centre (now called prince something centre)
if you stand outside the main entrance to market city with the covent garden and dickson st mall to your right, you need to turn left and walk towards the chinatown cellars.
Go into the chinatown cellars and get a couple of boutique beers of your choosing.
Then keep walking with the bottlo on your right. The next building is a run down shopping centre (aren't they all) with escalators up the middle.
Underneath the escalators on the left (just to the right of the japanese restaurant) is the place.
you know you're in the right place by the plastic grapes hanging from the ceiling and the tacky tapestry on the wall. Possibly the worst decor ever but the BEST food! When my best friend's in town from Shanghai he flirts with the waitresses in mandarin (he's blonde with blue eyes) and we always end up with extra dumplings!
I'd go Golden Century, or the Regal or Kam FOok Shark Fin.
regal has the best yum cha.
the golden century is what a chinatown restaurant is all about. but pricey.
Thanks for all the good suggestions. You're making my mouth water.
Keep em coming.
ok, i'll keep coming in your mouth goldie.
cheap but good chinese/malaysian is golden fang next to teh lansdowne
Fuck the Golden Fang and fuck your dirty mouth Psych Sounds.
there is a really good vietnamese place on george st.
YEP! Next to Aceben Pawn Shop, Pho' ... Something. So good!
And there is a dumpling house that owns balls, don't know it's name though.
oh, and if you go to noodle man...
have the hot shredded, fried potatoes and the "spaghetti and meatballs"
what do you care goldie, you're always stoned when i see you going out for chinese anyway!
as if you wouldnt eat a run over rat that'd been soaked in a puddle on rhye when you're like that.
ps. golden fang rules!
the best place for chinese in chinatown I know only as noodle man.
redlips is correct! Great food with Italian decor!
I also rate Purple Lotus on Haymarket (I think).

and then when you're finished dinner you can go next door upstairs to the peep shows for a bit of after dinner relaxation...
that'd be pho pasteur.
which has awesome pho and awesome coconut milques. make sure you ask 2 or 3 times for fresh chilli, then you might get enough. they serve it real mild for some reason but it's the best of 3 pho varieties i've had in sydney.
the portuguese club just off addison road.... great beer and meat skewers.
a cab driver took us to Golden Century the other weekend when we were in Sydney - awesome food - prawns to die for.
Sea-bai (spellink!) is a dumpling house on Pitt St. I'm fucken addicted. Just past the cross-st the spanish club's on towards ecntral, on the left as yr walking..
pasteur is my fave pho, in aus, period. Awesome.
i like faheems
shut up.
frenk that place rocks!
youre right.
Golden Century is great. I've only been there once. It was about 3.30 in the morning after having seen Dinosaur JR that night, and the place was completely packed.
I found the address of my fave noodle and dumpling house:
Chinese Noodle Restaurant
Shop 7/ 8 Quay St Sydney 2000
(02) 9281 9051
Tongs!
Every time I go to Seabay I always feel like I'm going to die of sodium overload and MSG poisoning afterwards. But I just keep going there. I love those lamb wrap thingies.
for price vs quality i'd have to go superbowl (both in dixon st mall and across from bbq king (roughly) on goulburn st..
hands down best is golden century..
luke tried to kill himself with chilli at red chilli szechuan (just off dixon st mall on one of the thru streets heading toward ent center)
i rate the marigold > regal, but afaik they're both owned by the same people..
oh yeah.. east ocean is fairly good too for mid-priced stuff.. good for yum cha.. not been there for dinner in yonks..
Captain Torres is great for really good tapas
highly recommended
73 Liverpool st
Can no one afford to eat in Sydney hence no recent recommendations?
Brag of your finest and funnest vacuous harbour folk
Eat House Diner
Nah, its just a 4 year old thread.
Porteno on cleveland street for south american meat stylings.
Ms G's in potts point for high end momofuku-esque asian. (reasonable price as well)
Spice I Am, Chat Thai, or House for amazing thai (house has a chilli warning)
Eathouse diner in Redfern for us diner classic with some class.
Carlisle Castle in Newtown for way better then your average pub food
Oscillate Wildly also in Newtown for molecular influenced degustation.
Green Palace in Newtown, yay/nay?
yeah so the restaurant at The Harp Hotel (900 Princes Highway, Tempe) is named Thai Me Up. it's freshness and authentic quality at super cheap prices. go there, schlubbs!
Has anyone been to Duke Bistro?
Also does anyone have any good recommendations for a party venue - last time I had it at Bloodwood and previously at Yulli's but am struggling to find a place that doesn't charge a set banquet that's way expensive or have some kind of minimum spend...
levins new restaurant!
As in the bistro of the Duke on Enmore Rd? I ate there once, but was in no state to be able to report upon its quality. I think it was nice.
Nah it's the duke bistro at flinders hotel http://www.dukebistro.com.au/
I wanna go to Levin's restaurant but they only take bookings before 7pm. waaaa!
if i needed a cafe where six people could sit and work in slurry hills tomorrow, where would you suggest i go?
we'd be booking and ordering food and drinks throughout, but somewhere with a tucked away space would be perfect.
