actually there was a lot of porn on the computer... but that all got wipes (I assume) when I attempted to install windows..
...but I think I mustnt have installed it porpperly... and there seems to be a corrupted file.. so I give up on trying to install windows.. etc... I'm out of my league in that respect..

Turn it on. There will be a splash screen while it boots. Somewhere on that screen will be some text saying something like ''Press F2 for something or other''. Some machines use the Delete key or another one of the Function keys.

If you press the key early enough, it will change to the bios setup screen(s) where you can see all sorts of details about the computer without having to run an operating system (e.g. Windows).
