head to head I reckon it's a close and tough race...

who wins?

Im sorta more into the Easybeats

it's an impossible argument. they were both brilliant but for different reasons.

Kinks for longevity

Kinks for longevity

for starters.

easybeats: some stunning singles over a short but intense period.

kinks: some of the greatest pop songs and rock songs of all time, in albums across an amazing range of styles over 20+ years.

djbollocks  said 37 days ago:

No disrespect to the Easybeats but The Kinks wrote better tunes and a lot more of them.

UNAUSTRALIAN DJB.

bigstar  said 37 days ago:

seconded djb

bigstar  said 37 days ago:

and don't you call me unaustralian.......

I'm not australian to start with so...

JRB  said 37 days ago:

Easybeats spawned AC/DC therefore Easybeats win by a nose.

iamthewalrus  said 37 days ago:

the kinks, after the 60s, were nowhere near as good as the kinks in the 60s, though. some of their 70s output it pretty woeful. then you get to shite like 'come dancing'.

if it was an argument based on when both of the bands were active, i would say the kinks because of the songwriting. the easybeats had great songs but i don't think they were as consistently good. they did have one of the greatest frontmen of all time.

the easybeats have an awesome greatest hits. the kinks have an awesome greatest hits, and the masterpiece that is village green preservation society. therefore, the kinks.

and they have Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire).

drugshakehands  said 37 days ago:

it's easily the kinks, the easybeats have a good singles collection and that's about all.

heath-dan  said 37 days ago:

60s Kinks by a mile. Arguably better than the fab four. YES, THE FAB FOUR.

heath-dan  said 37 days ago:

Guilty of unaustralian-ness. I'm even using imperial units of measure!

andydepressant  said 37 days ago:

Educate me on the easybeats.

what's next, dwarves vs black sabbath?

unvisible  said 36 days ago:

Dave Davies was the most handsome man in the history of rock'n'roll. This drags the Kinks overall average attractiveness up higher then the Easybeats.

However, the Easybeats outnumbered the Kinks and would have handily beaten them in a street brawl.

History does not record the respective basketball ability of either band (although I think we can assume that the diminutive Stevie Wright would have been of little help on the court) so we'll have to call this one a tie.

FrankieTeardrop  said 36 days ago:

Definitely The Kinks. Everything they did up to Arthur absolutely rules. Apart from Mark E Smith Ray Davies is the greatest individual british songwriter of all time IMHO.

mongoloid_dave  said 36 days ago:

Both great bands, but the Kinks easily. Too many consistency great songs and albums (until the early 70s, as others have noted)

scallywag  said 36 days ago:

easybeats

only because they spawned flash and the pan

scallywag  said 36 days ago:

...and with out flash in the pan there would be no grace jones version of walking in the rain

scallywag  said 36 days ago:

did grace jones ever cover the kinks?

scallywag  said 36 days ago:

no - i didn't think so

every cunt and his dog has covered the kinks, but no grace jones

unvisible  said 36 days ago:

Has there ever been a Kinks tribute album as terrible as that Easybeats one that just came out?

iamthewalrus  said 36 days ago:

there's been some kinks tributes, there was one a couple of years ago. but no, definitely not as bad as that god-awful easybeats one.

batman4eva  said 36 days ago:

Kinks. What the fuck is this thread.

101010101010101  said 36 days ago:

Both great bands, but the Kinks easily.

unvisible  said 36 days ago:

This album cover is certainly a point in the Easybeats' favour.
