Bollywood music

goldfoot  said 37 days ago  or at  4:06PM on Monday, December 1 2008.

So I'm to DJing at a corporate event and they've asked for a few ''Bollywood type tracks''. The only stuff I have that fits the bill is that Jaan Pehechaan Ho track from The Ghostworld soundtrack and some 60s sitar stuff (Lord Sitar, Dave Pike).

Has anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking more 'Bollywood influenced' than actual Bollywood movie soundtrack songs. Did MIA have song songs that sampled that sort of stuff?

Madlib released an album in his Beat Konducta series that is all hip-hop beats over Bollywood samples. It's pretty good.

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

You should totaly just play some actual Bollywood tracks.

I've been so tempted to play the big dance number of Chandramuki and Paro from Devdas at Vegas.

Or there is Talvin Singh.

if anyone can get me a copy of the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai soundtrack I will feel indebted to them for life - I bought a copy on cassette after seeing the film in Pune in 1999... I think someone threw it out cos they were sick of me playing it.

oooh mo - that would be so great! That soundtrack takes me back!

Mo  said 37 days ago:

hahaha

i will call mum this evenin and ask

devines  said 37 days ago:

yep, jimmy by M.I.A is an old bollywood song reworked.

am pretty sure also 'toxic' by Britney Spears samples a bollywood song, as does that 'kiss kiss' song by holly valance, (whatever happened to her)

though i am guessing you don't want to use the latter two.

actually it's probably suprising how many modern songs use old bollywood songs in their music.

redlips  said 37 days ago:

thanks mo, you're amazing!

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

Yeah that one, goldfoot. It's fucking awesome.

Don't worry, I won't play it at Vegas.

de.foxus  said 37 days ago:

kiss kiss was originally a turkish pop hit, not bollywood based.

i think.

how do i know that?

annehelena  said 37 days ago:

Nah, Serbian.

devines  said 37 days ago:

haha that's actually not true according to my mum lol. (thus it must be truth)

apparently it WAS a turkish song, but the turks nabbed it from a bollywood song...go figure.

i don't know.

I could also ask my mum, but she likes boring romantic classical bollywood songs from the 60s which are probably not the type of thing you would be going for at a corporate do.

she says she's gotta have a look for it... but she'll check tonight

if no luck - perhaps try this

there are a couple of results for kuch kuch hota hai

Bollywood movie soundtracks would be a good way to go too. ''Don'' is a recent Bollywood James Bondish film with a pretty dramatic soundtrack.

Any more suggestions?

I've got the track by Asha Bosle(Aye Naujawan Hai Sub Kuchh Yahan) that Black Eyed Peas totally ripped (Don't Phunk My Heart – aaargh) – it's pretty cool actually. Could email it to ya. It's from a CD entitled Beginner's Guide to Bollywood, apparently, which may be a good starting point.

katiepotatie  said 35 days ago:

what was that punjabi mc song? surely a guaranteed dance floor filler!

crackwhore  said 35 days ago:
