I watched this last night, and I must say Scarlett Johannson (sp?) is a terrible terrible actress, so much so that it ruined this whole film for me.
If it wasn't for Penelope Cruz this film would have been a complete write-off, it was un-funny and it just went nowhere.
Hated it..
i was supposed to go see it last night, but skipped it to go inspect a terrible apartment instead. kinda wondering whether i got the better end of the deal now.
At least you didn't pay for it.
I saw the preview last night. Does Woody make an appearance in the movie?
i wasn't going to be paying for it even if i went.
I don't think Woody Allen makes an appearance, if he does is not very obvious.
The only positive was that I didn't pay for it, I wanted to walk out, but I was awkwardly positioned in the cinema so didn't in the end..
No, no Woody.
How did Scarlett ruin the whole movie for you? It's not like she had many lines (Woody prolly realises now she's more eye candy than actress).
I thought it was a standard Woody Allen male fantasy-cum-moral dilemma flick. Nowhere near his best, but not his worst.
Javier Bardem was good - having had nightmares about Anton Shigur for months after 'No Country...', I didn't once wonder if he'd pull out the coin.
That was for turtle.
Just her prescence, she is completely awkward on screen, doesn't seem natural one bit. The first scene where she is in the car, staring off to the distance was just really frustrating, and from then on I was on the back foot.
Bardem was good, and the way him and Penelope Cruz worked together went really well, but then there was always the non actor in the same scenes which took away from them..
Watching her is like watching a year 7 drama student
The best way I could describe this film is ''charming, if you're into that sort of thing'', because its not funny, and its not very dramatic... or very entertaining for that matter.
I did see 'Sweet and Lowdown' the day after seeing this, which was entertaining.
scarlett can't act, but she's still got big things ahead of her.
boomtish.
i really liked sweet and lowdown - under-rated.
I liked this film. I thought it was really funny. I hate it when people compare Woody Allen movies. Just take each one for what it is.
Yes, Sweet and Lowdown is really, really funny.
If anyone wants to see this tonight at moonlight cinema, PM me.
Sydney.
saw it last night. actually thought scarlett was quite good, although i was prepared for the worst considering how awful she has been in everything i've seen her in recently. she's well cast here i thought.
at first i was confused as to why we spend so much time with the dull american characters when cruz and bardem are clearly the film's lifeblood. then it occurred to me that woody hates americans, and is using the two crazy-hot spaniards to show up the metropolitan white chicks for the shallow, pretentious killjoys that they really are. very cynical film, when i come to think of it.
not great woody, but good woody. which is better than most of what's out there (what a shitty year for movies this has been!)
i so want to see this why do I have to wait to boxing day when I've seen every woody allen film ever! Yes even the one at the mall w/ bette midler!
saw it last night too. I enjoyed it somewhat. Bardem and Cruz were the definite highlights, and I felt the American characters just interrupted their charm. Scarlett's character was so languid, I just wanted to slap her. I think Barcelona stole the show.
Nice little movie. Needed nudity.
The sheet that just covered Scarletts boobs in the bedroom scene deserves an Oscar.
just saw this. It was ok albeit not mindblowing. I enjoyed the Barcelona & Spain settings. Very visually pleasing on all levels.
No Scarlet boobs though, which is a pity
12 minutes in, and i'm all ''oh get fucked, scarlett.''
but i will watch this to the end.
how can you hate scarlett!
because she acts like a wet fish!
i like rebecca hall more, even though she's a little frumpy in this. she's really nice in frost/nixon.
oh, and essentially brunettes are hotter than blondes.
i quite liked it.
