Road to nowhere: best road movies ever?

bobwebb77  said about 3 years ago  or at  3:31PM on Wednesday, November 26 2008 in films

This thread is a shameless plug for a gig but I thought it would make a good topic for a thread also. Read the plug then nominate your favourite road movie ever.

ROAD TO NOWHERE

Road to nowhere is an evening of aural textures and vast soundscapes at Glitch Bar & Cinema on Saturday 6th December. ** Disgracelands**, Margins, Waver and Impulse/Control will be performing, accompanied by classic road movies on the big screen. Bar opens at 6.30pm, bands at 8.30pm.

My favourite road movie is Backroads starring Bill Hunter & Gary Foley. What's yours?

Nothing like a bot of murder and cannibalism to spice up an otherwise tedious voyage.

Love Two Lane Blacktop!

I recently bought a copy of badlands for $5. haven't had a chance to sit down an watch it yet though.

easy Rider is a decent road movie - but for me it doesn't come anywhere near the perfection of Two Lane Blacktop.

I got to watch Two Lane Blacktop at in an empty cinema at ACMI on my birthday a couple of years ago.

I mean... print check it. Yeah it was a print check.

bobwebb77  said about 3 years ago:

Two lane blacktop is yours, dude. It's in my local video shop. I think we'll go with Duel, Badlands and maybe the Wim Wenders' road movie. Thanks for all the ideas. Wages of fear would be cool too.

I don't know if it's the best ever as I haven't watched it yet (and I'm pretty sure it isn't) - but I have a DVD of Chistopher Petit's Radio On sitting on my desk awaiting 2 spare hours - a rare example of the British road movie. Music from Bowie, Kraftwerk, Fripp, Devo, Ian Dury...

what are the wim wenders road movies like?

definitely see thieves' highway if you like wages of fear.

has anyone seen the wages of fear 70s remake? it's call the sorcerer or something.

dudewolf  said about 3 years ago:

so.....anybody going to the show thingo on sat?

__v  said about 3 years ago:

i've seen sorcerer - at a screening introduced by william friedkin no less - it's pretty turgid yet strangely satisfying, in a 70s kind of way

i liked alice in the cities & kings of the road when i saw them ages ago

nelsonmelody  said about 3 years ago:

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah I'm keen to check out Sorcerer as I always enjoy William Friedkin's films (even when they're not very good). I know it's sacrilege to say so but I always found Wages of Fear a bit on the dull side.

kuvasz  said about 3 years ago:

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are going to make a sci fi road trip movie!
