We have bands. And beer.

Tuesday 25/11
Society Of Beggars
Confirmed Reptilian
The Show
Society of Beggars, merchants of crunchy psychedelic ethno-blues join forces with the old school punk sounds of Confirmed Reptilian and The Show in a gonzo spectacular that will be sure to satisfy a musical palette of any taste. Come and let your freak flag fly.
$4 entry, doors open 8.00pm.

Wednesday 26/11
UPSTAIRS IN THE COBRA BAR
“Cobra Comedy” with
Eric Hutton (Syd)
Rodney Todd
Cobra Comedy at The Tote is a one-off, no bullshit preview gala to the latest scenarios from Eric Hutton and Rodney Todd (separately, of course). Eric Hutton has been playing his slightly strange, at times funny style of stand up for several years on the Sydney comedy scene for a bit. He has impressed some medium sized cheeses in the business and been threatened three times after gigs. This has led to invitations to appear on The Comedy Channel's 'Stand Up Australia' and he recently appeared on Triple J radio, filling in for industry megamen 'Roy and HG'. He also supported London Comic of the Year Mark Watson at his Sydney shows. If you like your comedy somewhat original or enjoy listening to contentious issues being discussed and then threatening someone, check out Eric Hutton some time soon. Rodney Todd is a pretty whacked out kinda dude. He is pretty funny and all. He was so funny that he started doing stand up. He also does prankcalls. He's not very famous but everybody that know him loves him. He is coming to Melbourne to go to Mick's wedding and he is gonna do a show to help pay for his air fare. You should come along. He would appreciate it.
With DJs Today and Dopey.
$7 entry, doors open 8.00pm

Wednesday 26/11
November Wednesday residency
The Hovercrafts
The Harpoons
The Polites
The Hovercrafts started life a loose, raucous, slightly scruffy outfit in 2004, playing shows on the back of a successful debut EP and national radio play. Years 2005-2007 were spent doing all the usual things a band does in the afterglow - record debut album, scrap debut album, re-record debut album, scrap debut album. In 2008, the Hovercrafts decided to step back, get some perspective, and work on new songs with a new drummer. The result is a more focused, concise sound, with songs screaming out to be sung along to. First out of the blocks will be 'Asleep at the Wheel', slated for digital release in November and celebrated with a month of Wednesdays at the Tote.
$6 entry, doors open 8.00pm.

Thursday 27/11
The Rebelles
Ikochi (Japan)
Doll Squad
“ROCK'n'TOKYO” doco
A night of garage, swoon and film celebrates all things underground with a genuine Japanese flavour. Screening in the front bar is the 90 minute documentary 'ROCKnTOKYO', a unique look at Tokyo's indie rock scene by French filmmaker, Pamela Valentes, profiling Guitar Wolf, the 5678s and many more. Featuring on the night is 15-woman, all-girl group singing sensation The Rebelles bringing their songs of true love and utter tragedy inspired by the classic girlgroup era. Also catch Japan’s Ikochi delivering their tight, high energy three piece rockabilly punk sound, whilst kicking off the musical proceedings are all girl sweet doo-pop-punk band DollSquad, who are on the eve of releasing their second album produced by Steve Lucas.
$10 entry. The first DVD screening is from 7pm, bands kick off at 9pm.

Friday 28/11
''Benefit for Boof''
Cosmic Psychos
Killer Birds (Cobra Bar)
The Casanovas
Chinese Burns (Cobra Bar)
Hoss
Padmore Adams (Cobra Bar)
The Buzzcuts
A collective of bands are getting together for a series of gigs to raise funds for an operation for local musician Michael ‘Boof’ Hughes from the band Edward. Boof was in a near fatal car accident two years ago at age nineteen, which has left him permanently paralysed from the chest down. To raise money for cutting edge spinal treatment in India, the first in a series of benefit shows will be held at the Tote. All proceeds and donations from the show will contribute to Michael’s cause and help him in his endeavour to walk again. Over two levels, catch Cosmic Pyschos, The Killer Birds (Cobra), The Casanovas, Chinese Burns (Cobra), Hoss, Padmore Adams (Cobra) and The Buzzcuts, plus DJ Myles Gallagher. For info on how to contribute, go to: www.myspace.com/thecosmicpsychos.
Tickets on sale now from The Tote Front Bar and Corner Box office.
$15+bf, doors open 8.00pm.

Saturday 29/11
November front bar residency
Super Wild Horses
with Deaf Wish
Melbourne two-piece Super Wild Horses met in an all girls Catholic school in the summer of '96. It took them twelve years to form a band. Homemade songs about blood, ghosts and golden arrows are beaten up by messy rhythms and schoolyard yells. They bring their 'plug it in and hope it makes a noise' performance to the Tote every Saturday arvo and are joined this week by Deaf Wish.
Free entry! 5-7pm in the front bar.

Saturday 29/11
Six Ft Hick (single launch)
Digger & The Pussycats (single launch)
Kretch
Little Athletics
After dragging their collective ragged arses around Europe’s most palatial wine-bars and knock shops, Queensland’s narco-swamp merchants SixFtHick and Melbourne's premier lesbian double-act Digger and the Pussycats return to the lair to feast upon their respective vinyl donuts. Assisting in launching this plethora of wax booty will be eastern Europe’s favorite terrorist splinter group, Kretch, and lycra-clad lovelies, Little Athletics.
$15 entry, doors open 8.30pm.

Sunday 30/11
The Wellingtons
Heartbreak Club (Syd - album launch)
Cotton Sidewalk
A Pilots First Flight
Sydney’s Heartbreak Club are Australia's beacon of hope for ironic and self-deprecating punk-infused rock! Hot on the heels of their first tour of the USA, Heartbreak Club bunkered down with indie producer Ed Rose (Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids) and engineer Anthony The (The Vines, Youth Group) to belt out their debut album 'O Tempora! O Mores!'. Chunky riffs, sing-along choruses and punchy synth lines help create a veritable bevy of audible delicacies that drip with irony and are coated with sincerity; recommended for fans of Weezer, Motion City Soundtrack, The Pixies and The Get Up Kids.
$7 entry, doors open 6.00pm.

Bugsy.  said 39 days ago:

Block  said 38 days ago:

Little Athletics, Digger & the Pussycats and Sixfthick were excellent.
Though of course, the Tote would be nothing without the warm, friendly staff...

jezebel  said 38 days ago:

Do I sense a note of sarcasm here?

Block  said 38 days ago:

Not at all, why?

jezebel  said 38 days ago:

the warm, friendly staff bit. just sounded sarcastic. Agree about the bands especially Sixfthick.
