bands you dislike? (even though they're 'cool')

Innocent Bystander  said about 1 month ago  or at  11:15PM on Monday, November 24 2008.

this is not some sort of bitch session, but there are heaps of bands that are seemingly the bees knees at the moment, or just in general are out ther for all to marvel at.

However, sometimes I feel that their popularity or the amount of time I have to see or hear about them far out-wieghs how good they actually are.

Or, sometimes there's just band who irritate the shit our of you..

fuck buttons
holy fuck

i haven't heard fucked up yet because i'm afraid they'll complete the unholy trinity

It isn't? You could have fooled me.

Innocent Bystander  said about 1 month ago:

haha. Well I guess it is then. But it's not about putting down some band cos their bass player is your ex. Hopefully.

For me, I just cant understand Block Party. There is not 1 song of theirs that I can recall. They are all devoid of any sort of catchyness or any redeeming feature.

goingblank  said about 1 month ago:

Fucked Up are quite good. Holy Fuck are boring. Haven't heard Fuck Buttons.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 1 month ago:

Great thread!

Innocent Bystander  said about 1 month ago:

If Holy Fuck are cool, I like them because they're uncool.

How's that!

books  said about 1 month ago:

most of those ''Smell'' scene bands. style over substance and continuously fawned over by journalists in their early 20s trying to seem credible by making comparisons to those fuzzed out lowfi/c86 type bands of the mid-late 80s
examples: No Age/Vivian Girls/Times New Viking - lots of noise is sorta cool I guess but soon enough you realise the songs are devoid of any staying power Ponytail/Abe Vigoda - I don't care how much fun you pretend you're having the music's still shite and you can't sing either.

goingblank  said about 1 month ago:

I listened to Bright Tomorrow by Fuck Buttons. It sounds like The Private Psychedelic Reel by The Chemical Brothers before the drums kick in. It's cool.

team ham sandwich  said about 1 month ago:

I like lovely allen by holy fuck.... the rest of the album is a bit filler-ish.

boner m.  said about 1 month ago:

i'll prolly see holy fuck when they play live next month and have high hopes, but i still remain underwhelmed by them on record

fuck buttons aren't brutal enough to be good noise or melodic/danceable/interesting enough to be good as anything else so they add up to middling 'crossover'-friendly dullness

batman4eva  said about 1 month ago:

No, I'm gonna bash them up.

Mr.Horse, please...we aren't too different, you and i. We just got off on the wrong foot. I know that the only success tangible is the satisfaction you get from whatever shitty noise you make and pass off as music yada yada yada, but when we're both working as Storemen at Big W, I bet it will grate just a little that we never got to make any money doing something that we like.

filterfeed  said about 1 month ago:

nah, bugsy. i think it's about taste and people not necessarily agreeing with each other. not enough fighting if you ask me.

RadioHead are an average band that every no taste tosser thinks is the greatest.

montyclift  said about 1 month ago:

well said wons.

and while i wouldn't go so far as saying dislike, can i add eddy current as not quite living up to the enthusiasm they seem to engender?

Mo  said about 1 month ago:

eastside  said about 1 month ago:

foo fighters

Wonsly  said about 1 month ago:

foo fighters are popular, but i dont think they fit the 'cool' title.

eastside  said about 1 month ago:

they still blow

Wonsly  said about 1 month ago:

yes they do.

sting-bono  said about 1 month ago:

most of the stuff that people on here carry on about for a year and then pretend like they never liked em....

good call mo, i totally agree with people who dislike qotsa, radiohead, little red, ecsr - just don't get the appeal. granted i hate sitting through bands let alone 'cool' gigs where people go to be seen, makes me feel like being stuck in a coffin.

sting-bono  said about 1 month ago:

add twee indie to that list

Wonsly  said about 1 month ago:

listening to the beatles, free Hare Krishna lentils.
