Shake Some Action Reunion...

KillerQueen  said about 3 years ago  or at  11:19AM on Friday, November 21 2008 in chat

Remember when The Treetops, Ground Components and Riff Random were the most talked about bands in Melbourne? When Muscles made Idle use of his time on certain internet forums? And you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing The Strokes’ ‘Last Nite’?

Notorious indie dance night Shake Some Action is hoping to relive those heady days when it hosts a “reunion” in Melbourne at 161 tonight (November 20). Miami Horror will make their live debut, lo-fi duo Learn the Splits will play some acoustic folk, while Muscles and members of Eddy Current Suppression Ring will show off their DJ/bubble blowing skills.

But there is a catch. The event is open to “old crew” only, so you’ll have to email your full name and myspace/facebook profile to hughwaters@me.com for admission.

It’s certainly not like the old days, when all you needed was a fluro vest and those magic three words: “Scobes is cool.”

Did anyone actually go to this?

juicenewton*  said about 3 years ago:

oh yeah- what's Cuba up to?

thenewmeatloaf  said about 3 years ago:

were vinnyvegas and tonytrujillo there?

JudyDickslap  said about 3 years ago:

No-one posed for photos circa 2003, it was all ''random''.

JudyDickslap  said about 3 years ago:

I had a huge crush on TonyTrujillo.

Cuba is doing responsible adult shit like getting books published, etc. Though I did see him at the Charlatans, looking as handsome as ever.

spaceman1  said about 3 years ago:

I went.

Idle's wild and lustrous beard was a surprise.

Was full of kids! Reunion my ass. No Shebangs, no scobes, no mixcd swap.

spaceman1  said about 3 years ago:

no vinny vegas either.

spaceman1  said about 3 years ago:

tony t might have been there but i can't for certain.

scobes  said about 3 years ago:

scobes is cool

would have been there, but i'm a little far away these days.

unvisible  said about 3 years ago:

IS SCOBES STILL COOL?

Enquiring minds want to know.....

muscles.mail  said about 3 years ago:

i dj'ed and had the most awesome night!

not much old crew, most attendees were 4th-5th generation 161'ers (2005-2006)

besides sting, tonyt, i dont think i saw anyone from the era i attended, 2nd-3rd generation (2003-2004)

muscles.mail  said about 3 years ago:

ah, i just figured out who judy dickslap is.

you always had a perculier grudge with me from the start, did i say something offensive to you or something?

anorakhighst  said about 3 years ago:

I went to one of those once (in 2004, I think). It was the only ''indie'' night I've ever been to which played only daggy/trashy 80s top-40 and R&B booty anthems. The only two songs that could be remotely called ''indie'' I heard that night were The Cure's ''The Love Cats'' and New Order's ''Bizarre Love Triangle''.

poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

Was munt there?

I was going to go but forgot I was going out to dinner.

Did anyone play spin the bottle?

anonymous  said about 3 years ago:

i would've gone if i was in town.

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

I would've gone if I thought streetparty needed some more money.

anonymous  said about 3 years ago:

you never know.

muscles.mail  said about 3 years ago:

it was good that half of you didnt come, bunch of jerks

poprocks96  said about 3 years ago:

Us jerks? You're the one advertising your blog all over Melbourne!!!

versechorusverse  said about 3 years ago:

Makes me realise how old all us chats now are! Next thing you will be talking about mono.net & all the bands who tried to look/sound like Tim Rogers.

muscles.mail  said about 3 years ago:

how does that make me a jerk exactly?

andyr  said about 3 years ago:

only jerks have blogs

muscles.mail  said about 3 years ago:

but clem and hollyc are not jerks?

rigid  said about 3 years ago:

i went to shake some action once, to see eddy current. it took me and the band half an hour to convince the bouncer to let me in. fuck that place.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

you should have dressed as slipknot

rigid  said about 3 years ago:

i was!

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

You should have just told him you were there for wicked DJ action, like someone told me in the queue that very night.

soula  said about 3 years ago:

i just read about this. nice to know about it after the event. particularly that it was posted on the day of event.

if high jinx and viviano were playing, it might have been interesting.

thenewmeatloaf  said about 3 years ago:

so who was playing - Get Bored and Stylaga?
