I always think I might like to go to one of these things one time. And then I think... nah. Jim Lee is awesome though.

tangy_zizzle  said about 3 years ago:

I went to one when I was 14. I'd be too scared of nerd power to go back now.

~NipplesAhoy~  said about 3 years ago:

Hi tangy.

unvisible  said about 3 years ago:

I think Jim Lee's popularity far outweighs his talent.

Frank Quitely, on the other hand...

nyx  said about 3 years ago:

Lee's stuff is iconic though...

Are they vampire ones? A friend of mine is trying to write a book on vampires in fiction.

HE HATES STEPHANIE MEYER.

Don't forget the dude in Preacher. Best comic vampire ever. AND he beats on vampire ponces. Awesome.

svelteslacks  said about 2 years ago:

nope, no vampires.

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

Ha. I'm reading Preacher.
Meanwhile, Twilight has been released as a 'graphic novel'.
How'd I end up in this thread? I'm sure somewhere someone talked about 20th Century Boys. Trying to find.

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

Good grief. You're right. I picked it up at work today, and not only did the book smell terrible (they make a coworker sneeze), but on the one page I'd opened to they'd completely obscured a face with a speech bubble. Completely obscured. Clever chaps.

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

Daytime.

questionmark  said about 1 year ago:

do australian stores participate?

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

Yep they do. Pulp Fiction Comics in Adelaide does, but I won't be in Adelaide on May 1st.

:(

slothman  said about 1 year ago:

Kit  said about 1 year ago:

where are you going to be kcor? Kings in Sydney is doing giveaways and a back-stock sale, and Kinokuniya usually do an event of some kind - not being a floppy shop, i dunno if they get in the giveaways though.

Ghostface  said about 1 year ago:

Just because I thought this was funny 4 years ago when I first saw it doesn't mean I still think...oh wait, it still is funny

Goal attack  said about 1 year ago:

Jaime for sure, but the Palomar stuff is very literary and great

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

These Melbourne stores are participating in Free Comic Book Day (according to this site:

Mario all the way, Brain Capers is the tits.

Nah, it used to be Beto for years, but as he's veered off into the mix of dream-logic and surreal shorts vs B-movie pulp novels he's doing now, and Xaime's just kept refining his aesthetic, I'd lean more to the younger Bro now. Though I couldn't get especially arsed about the Ti-girls, either. Hignite's book should be a valuable corrective, though.

Goal attack  said about 1 year ago:

Mario lol

CaptainHowdy  said about 1 year ago:

jaime is so good. i haven't read anything by gilbert or mario yet.

I_AteAllYourBees  said about 1 year ago:

I was waiting for someone to pull out Mario... CaptainHardy you should definitely give Gilbert a look in great writing, Fantagraphics have been going crazy with re-releases.

ed  said about 1 year ago:

Make sure you check out Alternate Worlds rather than Comics 'R Us, kcor. It's up Chapel St a bit further towards Dandenong Rd.

Comics 'R Us are cunts.

CaptainHowdy  said about 1 year ago:

comics 'r' us in the city seem OK.

i'm interested in reading some of gilbert's work when i've finished reading the locas books.

kcor  said about 1 year ago:

Alright. Will check out Alternate Worlds. Thanks, you lot.
