switchbladesisters  said about 3 years ago:

kuroneko  said about 3 years ago:

What's your $207 get you?

switchbladesisters  said about 3 years ago:

entry and a campsite I think.. Mark can you clarify?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 3 years ago:

Surprise.....pffffft! That's ridiculous! Who would wanna go to a festival without knowing who's playing. Kiwis are weiiiiird!

iammark  said about 3 years ago:

This is camp's third year next year. The first year there was alot of that whole 'who wants to go if they don't announce bands'

But like, that's the whole point. You go cause you know it's gonna be sweet. The guy that runs it is heavily involved in underground nz bands and he puts together sweet lineups. Plus music is only one part to it, it's all about the cool community that gets together. No bongo circles thankfuly

Yeah for entry price you get entry to a three day camp. There is heaps and heaps of stuff on including like 30 bands, themed party things, renegade shows in the bus, tug of war, arts and crafts stuff, heaps of stuff. But most of all, it's just kind of a unique scene in that it's quite small but the people are really into it

To give you an idea of the kind of bands, bands last year included (off the top of my head):

The Rubys Suns, Die! Die! Die!, The Brunettes, Liam Finn, Cut Off Your Hands, Transam, Disasteradio, shit loads of smaller bands that you wouldn't have heard of but that were all awesome. Plus some very sexy ones from Melbourne ;)

Hmmmm..... I still don't really see the logic of not announcing the bands. Considering it's a MUSIC festival, wouldn't you base your decision to attend on what you are going to see? Otherwise you could just go camping.

kabukiboy  said about 3 years ago:

i can see why people wouldn't go....and that would be an incentive to attend ;-)

FrankieTeardrop  said about 3 years ago:

Ooooh. We live in complex times!

smokevswater  said about 3 years ago:

It is a big call not announcing the bands but I think it shows people just how much the focus is on the larger idea of 'camp' and everyone coming together rather than stroking the egos of some hotshot bands and calling it a die die die gig or a transam gig or whatever it may be. It's kind of a key part of the ethos of the camp by now.

The Low Hum name also means a lot to gig goers in NZ too - for years Blink has been relentlessly touring and promoting good new interesting shit so that means NZers know and trust Blink to be onto some good shit and also if you've been going to his gigs over the year you can probably have a fairly good guess as to the general genre/style/vibe of bands that hes into anyway (which does seem to change slightly from year to year).

I didn't go last year but I did get to go the first one and it is one of my absolute favourite music memories, I had an amazing time. Awesome music, awesome people, good vibe - and like someone else said, not in a hippy bongo circle way.

I heard that he was asking a bigger group of Melbourne bands this year - for my money if you get the chance at all to go then DO IT, you won't regret it.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 3 years ago:

Interesting perspective, smokey. Maybe it makes sense to the locals who are familiar with Blink's tastes and approach. How many people go to this festival. I assume it'd be fairly intimate, yeah?

smokevswater  said about 3 years ago:

Dunno about last year but I think the first one was around 500 people - bands included. Yeah nice and intimate - you'll make some new friends. Probably good ones too.

You gonna go Frankie? Huh huh?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 3 years ago:

Well, I'm thinking about it. A question of finance. That's why I'm trying to find out more about it. I didn't realise it was a secret club.

Will change that asap.

iammark  said about 2 years ago:

Awesome camp! Just for posterity astrousersasmind, Bonaparte are from Berlin. Actually, just the main guy is from Berlin. The other three members are locals, making up a backing band. Two of them are in So So Modern

astrousersasmind  said about 2 years ago:

Thanks!

I'm highly considering 2010.

I might just shoot him off an email but does anyone know if tickets(/''enrolment'') are transferrable at a latter date if I decide I can't afford flights etc and wanna sell it.

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

Blink is pretty easy going. I am sure if you couldn't make it you could off your tickets to some kind of Wellington bum.

Sold out last year and people missed out so I am guessing it will be a similar case next year.

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

We're heaps playing this year, if we can.

kazpatafta  said about 2 years ago:

Bought a ticket, Excitement!

Worked out to AU$173 if anyone's interested

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

They would be wise to avoid letting me in.

Zac  said about 2 years ago:

i'm going to, thinking about taking my own golf buggy.

buffytufnel  said about 2 years ago:

Butcher, let's get our band over there on pain of slow death. Its the only way I can get along.

Zac  said 15 days ago:

Wasn't sure where to put this but The DHDFD's who slayed at CALH 2010 are planning an Australian tour. Anyone wanting to play with them can contact me or the band directly.

Can't wait to see them again!
