Hooky hooked in fly...*

Pete gets painfully hooked up
FOR any fella who has seen the film There’s Something About Mary, one painful scene will, er, stick in the mind. In it BEN STILLER catches his manhood in his flies. Ouch!
And it doesn’t just happen in movies. Rock stars do it too. Just ask PETER HOOK, — bass player with Manc indie legends NEW ORDER — who is now speaking through clenched teeth. He caught his, ahem, instrument in his zip at the Carling Academy in Glasgow on Wednesday night.
He nipped off stage before an encore to answer a call of nature. But hearing the audience screaming for his return, he rushed the job — doing up his fly without the necessary care.
Singer BERNARD SUMNER told the crowd: “If you are a girl you probably won’t know how painful this is but Hooky has caught his foreskin in his zip.”
It’s a sign of the times that the ageing rockers couldn’t make it through a set without a pit-stop. Earlier, Bernard asked if there was a chiropractor in the audience after he suffered back pain.
New Order’s most famous track Blue Monday has significant lyrics. “How does it feel?” Not great by the sounds of it . . .

I didn't see them when they toured a few years ago, that was really stupid.
I don't know(?) I unfortunately saw some footage of Redding 02, Bernard Sumner reminded me of David Brent doing Karaoke and Peter Hook had aquired the 5 metre bass strap, slaping it out around his ankles like he wanted to be in Good Charlotte. PS. I am a NEW ORDER fan.
Bernard has always been an awkward singer I reckon.. watching some of their film clips is painful..
all i can say about hooky is fucking OUCH!!
i'm not sure what's funnier about this, the injury itself or barney announcing it to the entire crowd?!
barney's onstage banter is always erm, interesting... he had the following to say in glasgow the other night... "Muchas Gracias! Yeh I'm goin' on 'oliday to Spain tomorrow so I thought I'd practise the lingo, I mean if you fuckin' Glaswegians can understand it then so will the Spanish". hahaha!
Here's a pic I took of Johnny Marr, Jimi Goodwin and Barney at the Manchester Vs Cancer concert at the MEN last January...

And here's New Order in Manchester at the Apollo last November [pic by me also]

Jimi Goodwin - what a champ
i LOVE new order, and i was lucky enough to catch them when they toured a few years back. i moved over to melbounre a whole 2 months early cause they weren't touring perth.
Live at Blossom Music Centre, Cleveland 5th July 1989.

NME says they're thinking of taking a breather.
Not a bad idea - although WFTSC was an improvement over Get Ready, the live show is a bit aimless at the moment.
New Order: We're not splitting up
by Adam Moss
Monday, 8th January 2007
RUMOURS of Mancunian pop legends New Order's demise may be somewhat premature, I am reliably informed. While numerous websites have been screaming out loud that the band has decided to call it a day I have it on good authority that the band are actually about to embark on one of their busiest years for many a moon.
"It's the first I've heard of it," drummer Stephen Morris declares when I asked him about the split stories. "We've got an album to finish and a movie coming out this year." There's also the small matter of the 30th anniversary of Joy Division - the band which spawned New Order following the untimely death of enigmatic lead singer Ian Curtis.
It is three decades ago this year that the youthful and energetic young band first hit the headlines and there's a lot planned to celebrate the event - not least a documentary-style movie about the legendary group made by acclaimed cinematographer Anton Corbin.
Stephen tells me: "Anton's film is called Control and is due out in February. It's been made in black and white and we are all going to the premiere in February in Berlin. We are really looking forward to it and we've already seen a cut of it. It's really good and should hopefully do very well," Stephen says.
The band's music - including the now iconic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is to be honoured with an album of cover versions by some of today's biggest pop names. "The Killers have already done a version of Shadowplay for the album and there will be lots more great stuff on there hopefully," Stephen adds.
Look what there Irish folks have done to Temptation

ANTHONY WILSON FIGHTING CANCER
Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has been diagnosed with cancer.
The Salford-born entrepreneur, who managed New Order, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays, underwent emergency surgery last month to remove a kidney.
The 56-year-old, who launched Factory records and the Hacienda nightclub, is due to start a chemotherapy course at Manchester's Christie Hospital.
The disease was found during a routine visit to the doctor.
Two minutes into his check-up the doctor identified that something was "seriously wrong" with his right lung.
After having the lung drained a scan revealed that his right kidney was "completely consumed" by cancer.
It was then removed at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and he is now set for two five-day treatments at the Christie.
Mr Wilson said: "It was a bit of a surprise to find out I had cancer because there is no family history.
"All my family tend to have heart attacks in the middle of the night aged in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
"I wasn't too upset when I was told the news. I just think you have to go with it and I see it as another step in life's adventure."
'Madchester' founder
Mr Wilson reserved particular praise for the staff who treated him after his diagnosis.
"The sheer quality of the care provided to me by the nursing staff and doctors has been fantastic," he said.
"It's funny that everyone has a moan about the NHS except for people who actually use it."
Mr Wilson, who is a presenter on BBC Radio Manchester, rose to fame after he co-founded Factory Records and the Hacienda nightclub which was famously known as the birthplace of the "Madchester" music phenomenon.
The semi-fictional story of both the music label and the historic club was told in the 2002 film, 24 Hour Party People.
Yes Cuba, it has.

Peter Hook: "New Order Have Split"
In an interview with Xfm last night (May 4), New Order bass player Peter Hook confirmed that legendary Manchester band New Order have split up. And this time it's definitely for good...
Xfm Manchester DJ Clint Boon, called up Hooky to speak to the bassist about the part he's played in a new project from Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, Satellite Party. "When someone phoned me up and told me that I was on Perry Farrell's record, I thought bloody hell my drinking must be bad, I don't remember meeting Perry Farrell, and I don't remember the session. It is definitely me, and I did get to the bottom of it eventually. “When I did a session with Hybrid [Welsh techno wizards] which was about two years ago I did a couple of tracks at the end, jammed on a couple of track that they said they were going to use for their next songs. After that they lost their record company, decamped to America, and somehow bumped into Perry Farrell surfing in Santa Monica - as you do when you're Welsh techno wizards. Perry Farrell was in the doldrums and they teamed up and started working together in the studio. Perry heard the outtakes and felt immediately inspired and knocked off two tracks that I don't; even know existed”
However, during the phone call, conversation turned to the future of New Order, and Hook let split news of New Order's split. Saying, "I spoke to Perry, and he'd heard about New Order splitting up and he asked me to play bass. Well yeah, me and Bernard [Sumner - New Order singer] aren't working together.”
When asked if the spilt was permanent (the band have had breaks in the past) Hooky explained, “Bernard went off for a break with Electronic [his side-project band with Johnny Marr] but that was different. But it’s like the boy who cried wolf this time”

Oh dear...
NEW ORDER have issued a statement to the effect that the band is still together following bassist PETER HOOK's comments that they have split up. Accoring to the statement 'Peter Hook can leave the band, but this doesn't mean the end of New Order'.
Seems as if it was personal...
New Order split - Band go their separate ways
New Order confirm that the band have split
20 June 2007
Music fans have known for sometime now that a New Order split was on the cards, at the beginning of the month bassist Peter Hook confirmed that the band had decided to go their own way. Speaking to our 6 Music reporters on Monday as he attended the Mojo Awards, Peter Hook made it clear they wouldn’t work again as a band. Hook looked visibly upset about it, and said:
“It has been very sad actually, and it has been very difficult to live with, but that is life, isn’t it? But you pick yourself up, you dust yourself off, and you start all over again.”
When he was pressed on the reasons for a split, Hook brushed aside the question and stated simply that, “it’s personal.”
Peter Hook was at the Mojo Honours List ceremony to accept a top music award as Joy Division were honoured an Outstanding Contribution to Music gong.

Neu Ordure?
Just jumpin’ on the Krautrock bandwagon.
Current Joy Division line-up:
Peter Hook - Vocals/Bass
Jack Bates - Bass
Nat Wason - Guitar
Paul Kehoe - Drums
Andy Poole - Keys
current joy division line-up? are you fucking kidding?
Only a matter of time before Hook leaves and they make a new record.
I for one can't wait.
I reckon the Jack Bates led version of Joy Division will create some classic Joy Division music.
fuck...you are serious.
Give me the Bates era over those old guys any day. Bates even looks like Peter Hook, I guess that's why Hook chose him for the new Joy Division.
Yeah i think i jumped the mark on this one. Andy Poole has been coming up with some good stuff lately, Ian Curtis's legacy is safe in Pooley's hands.
Pooley has something Curtis hasn't had for decades.
Life?
If you can call it that, considering his day job.
Oh shit I've forgotten which is my sarcastic position and which is my real position.
So, how was it?
It was awesome. I forgot about Hooky not being there about halfway during opener Crystal. At any NO show, Regret is my favourite and last night it was as well. The crowd seemed to respond fairly well, it was funny to see how bad 1000 40 year old can dance. Best line went to Barney after their bass player fucked up, ''our bass play can't play bass, good replacement huh'' Crowd gave a few cat calls, with Barney saying ''twas just a joke''. Ended with Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Loved hearing all those poppy singles of theirs strung together in the second half of the set, specially glad to hear 1963 as I've not heard them do that before (would've loved shellshock too tho).

New Order
Wellington, New Zealand [no label, 1CD]
Live at Victoria University, December 8, 1982.
When Ian Curtis died in 1980, so ended his group, Joy Division. But the remaining members decided to continue as New Order. If Joy Divison was a rock band, then New Order was an electro (or synth-pop as the term was later coined) band. After three singles - Ceremony, Procession and Everything's Gone Green - the group was ready with its debut album, Movement (November 1981), of which Uncut magazine says: ''The difficult first album. You could almost smell the fear.'' Perhaps Bernard Sumner was rather candid when he says: ''It was kind of nervous writing, really. I hate those songs. We recorded them, I played the album once, and I don't think I ever played it again. In fact, I don't own a copy.''
But whatever reservations the band had, that never stopped them from writing more songs and going into the studio. By March 1983 the group had already released their second album, Power, Corruption & Lies. By then, the group had tasted some success with Temptation (released as a single in April 1982) and their reputation as a ''dance'' group would be enhanced with the release of Blue Monday.
If fans were looking forward to a set of familiar tunes when New Order played in Wellington, New Zealand on December 8, 1982, they must have been disappointed. Apart from Temptation and its B-side, Hurt, five songs from the forthcoming Power, Corruption & Lies were previewed. Perhaps that might account for the heckling the group received.
According to the notes that came with this CD, Bernard is unusually quiet during the show but returns to form just before Blue Monday. Something along the lines of (in response to hecklers): ''I can't f*cking hear a word you're saying so if you don't like it you'll just have to f*ck off... I could be in bed at this very moment.'' Then, he said: ''Do you like drums? I hope you like drums because it goes on like this for another half an hour, and there's another one just the same after it.'' (The latter is with reference to Blue Monday and 5-8-6).
The notes continued: ''The mix on this is bizarre to say the least. Your Silent Face seems to vary in tempo and then it seems like the engineer is experimenting with the levels (particularly the drums) which vary from instrument to instrument throughout the song and continuing into Temptation. Less so on Dreams Never End but the lead guitar is well to the fore on this one. As the recording quality is so good it's more interesting than annoying. This version does not have the false start to Your Silent Face and, like the other soundboard version has a portion of 5-8-6 missing from when the engineer inadvertantly hit pause.''
While this is taken from the soundboard, the mix isn't balanced - the vocals are way back. Nonetheless, this ''raw'' recording shows a band gamely, on the one hand, entertaining their fans with ''oldies'' while on the other, trying to introduce and familiarise the audience with what is to come.
