MOTO australian tour!!

rigid  said about 3 years ago  or at  4:43PM on Wednesday, August 20 2008 in events

we at aaarrrghtt!!! records are totally pumped and stoked to be releasing a best-of MOTO cd and bringing them/him out to australia for a tour.

MOTO started in new orleans, louisiana in the very early 80s. paul caporino is the main guy who writes all the songs. everyone else in the band comes and goes without too much fuss while paul sits at home and continues writing and recording hit after hit after hit on his four track, with a cheap-shit guitar, a transistor amp (crate or peavey) and a four track. he moved to chicago a while ago, where MOTO have been ever since.

over the years MOTO has has thirty odd band members, released 20 albums on cassette, roughly the same amount of 7''s singles and half a dozen lps. he's a compulsive genius pop and punk rock song writer, really personal, idiosycratic and unique. MOTO are easily in my top ten favourite bands of ever. even super seminal australian bands like the cannanes and joel silbersher are big MOTO fans.

so, aarrrrght! has compiled a cd called BATTLE OF THE BAND, compiling 31 songs from all eras and formats for a handy introduction/overview to MOTO. and we're bringing him out for a tour. just paul is coming, he'll be backed up by a few local goons. we're cheap like that.

tour dates:

friday 29/8 - espy front bar, melbourne
w/ the ooga boogas, spazzys & the twerps

saturday 30/8 - excelsior, sydney
w/ the pink fits & the escapes (wipey's latest & greatest)

sunday 31/8 - music farmers cafe, wollongong
w/ the pink fits

tuesday 2/9 - step inn, brisbane
w/ roshambo, boondall boys, shrewms, lobster prophet

wednesday 3/9 - hamilton station hotel, newcastle
w/ dragstrippers & the crashing planes

thursday 4/9 - gangbusters at bar 32, canberra
w/ someone or other, it's canberra, does anyone have any idea? not me.

friday 5/9 - newmarket hotel, bendigo
w/ the spazzys & the killerbirds

saturday 6/9 - flip out festival, corner hotel, melbourne

MOTO RULES!!

celluloid hero  said about 3 years ago:

whole damn tour's worth it just for another escapes show

rigid  said about 3 years ago:

wipey rules almost as hard a moto. maybe even harder!

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

Was this band in your list of your favourite 100 albums, rigid?

pc  said about 3 years ago:

I think the Canberra supports are The Fighting League and The Cherry Marines.

rigid  said about 3 years ago:

thanks pc. i'll check them out right now.

they have an album called ''kill MOTO'' which is in my top 100. their singles are the best though. ridiculously great string of 45s in the 90s. you can get a singles comp called ''single file'' which is unbeatable. a lot of those are on the aaaaaarght!!! cd.

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

Maybe I'll just get the Aaaaaaarght CD. Record shopping is way too hard for me.

celluloid hero  said about 3 years ago:

hah the fighting league

rigid  said about 3 years ago:

that's the idea modi. you're a good consumer.

Bugsy.  said about 3 years ago:

sweet!

blake3030  said about 3 years ago:

Where can I read your top 100, rigid?

scallywag  said about 3 years ago:

is wipey playing rock and roll again?

i thought he chucked it all in for the stand-up comedy circuit

celluloid hero  said about 3 years ago:

pretty sure he handles both

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

I think it's in this thread, blake

I thought wipey's music was comedy

richieramone  said about 3 years ago:

Blake, the original Punk / Garage / Trash thread, featuring Rigid's Top 100 (and a few other clowns)

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

Speaking of top 100s, anon, where's that top 50?

anonymous  said about 3 years ago:

not in this thread.

scallywag  said about 3 years ago:

i wonder if the spazzys will play their MOTO cover when they support MOTO? and if they do, which im sure they might, i wonder if that will be frowned up by the melbourne garage punk community?

Bugsy.  said about 3 years ago:

the spazzy's can play whatever they like and it will be more than fine by me. that said i'm hardly a leading figure melbourne garage punk community. on the other hand the melbourne drunken retard community will down with it

looch  said about 3 years ago:

For Canberra you need the Vee Bees to play

Jack Stands  said about 3 years ago:

Soooo glad Paul is making it down there.

its the non 'humorous' ones that get me the most, some sort of combination of naivety and intentions and the bittersweet vibes and the simplicity and catchiness of it all seems to cut through all my cynical jaded musical listening coolness and leave me sorta stunned and reflective (and humming along, of course)

bah, words not working.

scallywag  said about 3 years ago:

i've got that Pnau song stuck in my head

pc  said about 3 years ago:

Dick About It is the one that is stuck in my head

devilwillride  said about 1 year ago:

Will there be an actual BBQ at the BBQ (USA) gig?

rigid  said about 1 year ago:

no sydney, sorry.

there might be an actual BBQ. i don't think anyone has talked about it. i'd like to do one.

thank you for your input.

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

looks like presales for tote are available now from front bar or corner website (to answer the question i was just going to ask)

rigid  said about 1 year ago:

yes, they serpently are.

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

What happened to Rodney and the Rumours?

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

i think he was m+n'izing the band name?

rigid  said about 1 year ago:

i thought that in the context of m+n, ''wipey and the wipeouts'' might have more drawing power.

wipey  said about 1 year ago:

Poor me

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

More drawing power:

(dunno if this will work)

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

Oh well.

wipey  said about 1 year ago:

It's not 2006 anymore, Ron.
