Julie Doiron

whosgotthecrack?  said about 5 years ago  or at  7:54PM on Thursday, October 19 2006 in music

Really this shuld be miles' thread but am listening to the album 'Goodnight Nobody', and it's utterly lovely

she has this beautiful timbre in her voice, a quavering at the end of phrases that is just beautiful, a bit like Laetitia Saedier for depth and warmth, Cat Power for the fragility, and yet she's much less wounded sounding

lovely

thanks miles

i only have loneliest in the morning and love it. far cry from most of the stuff she did with eric's trip. i followed her from that band. she is divine.

milesmonroe  said about 5 years ago:

julie's songs are like stories whispered in your ear by your best friend while you are dreaming of someone you love.

julie is completely amazing.

michael_horse  said about 5 years ago:

'julie doiron and the wooden stars' is probably my fave, then désormais

milesmonroe  said about 5 years ago:

last night i listened to:
- lonliest in the morning
- heart and crime
- goodnight nobody

and i still wanted more. am saving broken girl for this evening. sigh. i miss seeing her play live, she is truly amazing.

whosgotthecrack?  said about 5 years ago:

you should all have told me about her much sooner then! don't you feel bad?

(do you know what? i think the 'winking smiliing face' emoticon is passe...)

i was about to do one and hesitated. :/

i like that one though...

i'm sorry if you were offended by my salad bowl comment, cracksy ... it wasn't meant like that

whosgotthecrack?  said about 5 years ago:

hahaha!

no, i think i was surprised that it was being referred to at all!

i did wonder what sort of salad-bowl-napper you thought i was.

no, it's sitting, shiny and clean on my kitchen bench awaiting a safe return.

i have used your little tupperware thing to store sliced pears in the fridge tho!

"tell me you are lonely and i'll want to be with you, tell me you are lonely"

julie is so perfect for a day like today. i'm listening to julie doiron and the wooden stars after a 2 year gap of not having this album it is now mine again and is bringing all the warmth of my listening memories back to me. and the wooden stars on this record are just beautiful.

In Finland  said about 5 years ago:

Heart and Crime especially is quite quite wonderful.

Why hasn't she toured, eh?

michael_horse  said about 5 years ago:

y'all should listen to shotgun and jaybird .. julie's in 'em

"Trying to Get Somewhere" is a damn good album

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

How do you pronounce Doiron? Is it as simple as doy-ron?

michael_horse  said about 5 years ago:

dwa-ron .. but not a hard n

milesmonroe  said about 5 years ago:

m_h, your french is impeccable, that is exactly how you pronounce it.

shotgun and jaybird are awesome, i saw them a few times earlier this year.

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

You know what, as soon as I asked that question, I thought..... DUH!

Of course it's not doy-ron.

scissors  said about 5 years ago:

It's more like DOYruhn, same emphases as Byron.

LOL

michael_horse  said about 5 years ago:

WOW

she's really rocked herself up with this new album!

MREGIRL  said about 5 years ago:

switchbladesisters  said about 5 years ago:

it appears Miles will immerse me in this world tomorrow.... :)

milesmonroe  said about 5 years ago:

everyone ought to be immersed in julie's voice at least once in their lives.

switchbladesisters  said about 5 years ago:

totally diggin', miles!

milesmonroe  said about 5 years ago:

she's a sweet voiced angel. every album is a treat. i am awaiting the new one with much excitement, especially cause rick white produced it with her... sigh. those two really do make wonderful music together.

AlterEgo  said about 4 years ago:

i can't stop listening to Désormais

i have no idea what she is saying, but i love it. especially ''Tu es malades'' which i think means you are sad? or you are sick? or you are strange?

milesmonroe  said about 4 years ago:

i think it means 'sick', alter. i love singing along with her, i have no idea what she's saying. i'm probably doing a Ken Lee or something.

AlterEgo  said about 4 years ago:

yeah, it can mean a few things though i think! the prettiness of the song makes me think she's going with ''strange''. i haven't sung along to it yet, mostly because i'm at work with my headphones in when i hear it, and i'd get laughed at for singing along in spaz french.

milesmonroe  said about 4 years ago:

the rest of the song is about being sad and seeing the sadness in someone's eyes, and them confirming the sadness in words, so perhaps it's an illness or even a depression of sorts.

percolator  said about 3 years ago:

and so the 90's nostalgia continues. loneliest in the morning reissued

blake3030  said about 3 years ago:

nice voice

whosgotthecrack?  said about 3 years ago:

i'm very sorry to think she got divorced

pc  said about 3 years ago:

I'm just listening to her new album now. It starts out sounding like New Buffalo, but then it get nice and loud and fuzzy.

milesmonroe  said about 3 years ago:

rick white is at the production helm again i believe, which explains the fuzzed-out-ness.
is the album in stores already?

trafficsounds  said about 2 years ago:

yes. and i really really dig this new record. spill yer lungs! consolation prize! borrowed minivans!

milesmonroe  said about 2 years ago:

oh yes it is brilliant. Fred Squires penned a few of the tunes Julie sings, he's a good egg that one.

aloha  said about 2 years ago:

so good.

aloha  said about 1 year ago:

i can wonder what you did with your day
