Chris Knox / Tall Dwarfs

He / they rock the kasbah.

That is nearly all that needs to be said.

Cool Video

Another Cool Video

I just regret not seeing him when he came to OZ a few years ago. Although I did get to see him perform live when the Fauves hosted Recovery. He broke a string, but that didn't phase him (with the help of Coxy) he just finished the song a capella.

Terrible fashion sense though.

half man, half mole is a fantastic song. haven't heard it in too long. thanks! really need to check out some of his other stuff, huge chunk of the flying nun stuff i've ignored for too long.

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

I too wish I'd seen those shows he did a few years back that said I've always much preferred the music that Knox has made with the Tall Dwarfs to his solo stuff. What's he doing these days anyway? He's been awfully quiet of late.

runoutgroove  said about 3 years ago:

I saw him at the Annandale and thought it was just ok. I'm not a massive fan of his solo stuff but it was nice to have been able to see him play at least.

If you haven't already, check him out in the flying nun doco - funny guy

switchbladesisters  said about 3 years ago:

saw him on friday night, last ever gig with his current band The Nothing. It was pretty awesome. He got some random backpacker to play mouth organ and do handstands. sweeet.

belated respect.

smokevswater  said about 2 years ago:

Oh, that's pretty crap. Here's wishing for a speedy recovery. Chris Knox is a total genius.

raven  said about 2 years ago:

Oh fuck no. Best wishes to him and his loved ones... and band mates...

unvisible  said about 2 years ago:

Oh man, that's a hell of a shame. Hope he's okay.

nishiki  said about 2 years ago:

that's rough. i hope he recovers.

djbollocks  said about 2 years ago:

Pull through Chris.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Things aren't looking too good for Chris. According to this report he may not be able to walk again and has lost the power of speech. Poor dude.

unvisible  said about 2 years ago:

That's terrible news. I hope his diagnosis improves somehow.

kazpatafta  said about 2 years ago:

Man, here's hoping for the best :(

kuroneko  said about 2 years ago:

Dang. Here's to a full recovery, Chris.

unvisible  said about 2 years ago:

His family and friends have set up a blog for updates on his condition.

hehe, thanks for that

i don't remember seeing let alone Coxsy hosting recovery

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Priceless clip.

I think I've told the story before, in another thread, but my favourite Chris Knox moment was going to see him do an instore at some little NY record shop in 1996, where he played to six people and hugged everybody individually during 'Not Given Lightly'. He was wearing the banana shorts too, which were getting pretty threadbare.

'Turning Brown And Torn In Two' from Canopener / Hello Cruel World has the best tapeloop rhythm track ever.

Agreed, probably my favourite 'Dwarfs song. It sounds like a voice looped and slowed down, I've just about replicated it with a DOD DFX91, if I had the DFX94 I could do it live I reckon.

Was excellent the first time I went to NZ I stumbled up the mountain to Victoria U to see Knox playing for free for O-week. Was shocked that all the kids there took it for granted or didn't know/care. I was a major part of my trip!

Rene have you got the TL 'Cuts' double CD?

king loser  said about 2 years ago:

Cuts is brilliant

king loser  said about 2 years ago:

Great to see Pumice and Mr Carter helping him out in Auckland. Here's a cool photo (from my blog) of him looking all punk rawk

kazpatafta  said about 2 years ago:

Recently become obsessed with the Peter Gutteridge track on Stroke. I really need both more Tall Dwarfs and Snapper stuff

switchbladesisters  said about 2 years ago:

gutteridge and dooley are rehearsing for a new snapper record it seems..

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Ooooh! I'd never seen this video before: Tall Dwarfs doing 'The Brain That Wouldn't Die' live in 1983. Who's the drummer?

Hellzapoppin  said about 2 years ago:

Can't say I've seen that before either, 1983, wow! Nice Billy Ray Cyrus hair there Chris. As for the drummer, I have noooooo idea.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

I think it's a wig, actually.

goldbuttons  said about 1 year ago:

has had a long-running comic strip in a proper newspaper

Does anyone know if these are floating around anywhere?

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

If you search for 'Max Media' around the NZ Herald you may get lucky.

goldbuttons  said about 1 year ago:

No luck, I found one strip through google but that's about it. Ah well. Thanks anyway.

Been listening to his (rather and unfortunately portentously titled) Seizure album today (my review here). The guy is so talented. I hope there is more to come from him and most importantly that his health improves...

FrankieTeardrop  said about 1 year ago:

I just discovered this video on youtube, of NZ band The Spelling Mistakes doing a very faithful rendition of The Enemy's ''Pull Down The Shades''. Chris Knox jumps out of the audience to take over the vocals. Fucking brilliant!

FrankieTeardrop  said about 1 year ago:

Just for comparison, here's the original.

weasel_zapper  said about 1 month ago:
