Marshall JCM 800 Master Series

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago  or at  12:13PM on Friday, July 25 2008 in music

I'm out of the amp loop these days.

Just wondering if anyone could give me a ball park figure of what I could get for a Marshall JCM 800 2204 Master Volume Lead 50W with tweed face?

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

i think they go for roughly 1200 - 2000 these days - not sure about how available the tweed face is....

why not get a 2203 black face

way cooler hahaha j/k

good amp choice sir

the shitty thing is 800's have gone up a fair bit in price since people realised everything made after them sucks massive wang

Angelic  said about 3 years ago:

is that a head or combo?

hyperfuzz  said about 3 years ago:

i think he has one rather than wants one.

1500ish.

Yeah, I've got one and may be selling. In my opinion too.

Sorry, it's a head. I've also got a Marshall box to go with it.

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

y u sellin?

oh and i was wrong.... they go for about 200 bucks these days....

not that i'd wanna buy it or anything... hahahaha

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

I just never use it anymore. There's nothing wrong with it.

I'm heading towards the pump organ/steel string these days.

I'd rather someone else be using it than it wasting away at home.

$200... Let me think about it... No... But thanks for the offer Mo!

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

hahahahahahaha

u can't blame a dude for trying...

but yeh i reckon you could get 1000 - 1200 for it

and with box - 1500 for sure

charlesincharge  said about 3 years ago:

i used to love when my guitarist had a jcm 800. very nice. i preferred his 900 though.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 3 years ago:

3 awesome albums that have the JCM 800 as their core guitar sound:

loveless
mezcal head
siamese dream

that should be enough to sell anyone right there.

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

What happened to your original $1200 - $2000 quote?!!

HA!

Thanks Mo. That's what I was thinking too.

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

Good call nicko.

It's easily my favourite of all the Marshalls, I like the 900's but 800's get my soft spot.

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

well 1200 - 2000 - but i reckon its a bit of a c%nt act to sell them for 2000

but u do have the tweed front which lotsa people like...

nicko_mcbrain  said about 3 years ago:

800s get my hard spot...

so much so that my custom-modded Fender is basically an 800 with bigger cojones. designed to make marshalls cry.

kandos recently serviced it and said 'fuckin' heavy for a fender!'

Angelic  said about 3 years ago:

I'm a JMP fan.
and a SLA fan.

800 is OK..still too middy for me..and overdrive too much
900 crap

anything else complete rubbish.

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

i have an 800 and i turn my mids all the way up haha

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

Any ideas on the best forum to sell it? E.g. Music Swap Shop, ebay, trading post, here?

Mo  said about 3 years ago:

not sure about where/when to sell

i reckon go ebay as people might get competitive about the price

and u could get more cashiolas

actually i might know a dude who'd buy it

whats ur email address?

oh wait - ur in melbs yeh?

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah, in Melbourne. I'll PM you Mo.

man, i'd pay good money to see you plugged into a stack of Marshalls and ridin' the lightning, littler...

I'm talking to thicko, dear

nicko_mcbrain  said about 3 years ago:

2 bob and a pickled egg?

i mean, you said you were shit - but i know you've got a good sound guy... half the battle.

Looch used one of these in every band we've ever played in before he swapped the strings for the sticks. Always got a killer sound out of it for the Oz/Detroit music we played.

i own that amp now haha

it shits on my other 800 (looch's one is a vertical input)

Mao_tse_dung  said about 3 years ago:

Timebomb cooked the output transformer on my 2204 one night at the Greenroom while trying to keep up with Dave's Fender (several of the windings were welded together). While looking for a replacement o.t. I got a mate to temporarily remove the bright circut. Now it sounds fucken' amazing! Not going to replace the cooked transformer, it sounds too good.
Everyone should get Timey to blow up there Marshall for them!

Timebomb  said about 3 years ago:

well roman from rocket science blew up the output transformer on my jmp so i guess it's your turn to blow someone's amp up... pass it along!

anyway i have no recollection of this incident at all!!!!??? are you sure it as me???? i don't recall having any discussion about this ever?!?!??!?!

Mao_tse_dung  said about 3 years ago:

Technically, it wasn't your fault Timey. It was one of the Green Room birthday bash gigs, from memory. The amp had been running on 10 for about four bands straight that night.
Nice mod on the amp though!

Timebomb  said about 3 years ago:

i remember using it, and it sounding good.

sorry about that :-(

so anyway it is still working and sounds good eh? how is that possible if the OT is fried? i it just that it doesn't go as loud anymore? and what did you mean about some of the turn being welded.... was it welded to fix it? or did it melt.... SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Mao_tse_dung  said about 3 years ago:

Some of the windings in the OT are welded together. Hasn't affected the volume. With the bright circuit hooked up it sound like your running a wah-wah pedal pushed all the way down. Will the bright circuit bypassed it sounds fuckin' amazing.

Timebomb  said about 3 years ago:

sweeeet. all good then.

monkeyman  said about 3 years ago:

I got a JCM800 50w combo when I was 16.

Never needed another amp. It's fucking great.

Charles Dumar  said about 3 years ago:

Just so 'yall know. The head is now for sale at the Music Swap Shop for $1,399.

I've also got a Carlsbro 300 Watt 8Ω 4X12'' w/Celestion Speakers on there for $375

any jcm800 heads around? also whats the deal with jcm600? there is one at the swop shop right now..

Charles Dumar  said about 2 years ago:

Just get an 800. Don't waist your time on any other JCM.

Or get a fender twin.

k2  said about 2 years ago:

good advice.

Mo  said about 2 years ago:

what charles said barring the fender twin hahaha

from memory a mate had a 600 and it was not built very nicely at all

k2  said about 2 years ago:

hmm, so I'll have to just keep an eye out for them to pop up in melb I guess.

Charles Dumar  said about 2 years ago:
