After reading the Best Australian Single Of All Time thread I was reminded of the old Renee Geyer chestnut Say I Love You from 1981. This is one of those songs that takes me straight back to being a wee small kid in the early eighties. I loved this song when I was 6!
So of course I decided to watch the video clip on YouTube and I've discovered it is notable for 3 things!
Say I Love You - Renee Geyer (Video)
- Renee Geyer is completely pissed throughout
- The tattooed guy at 2:03 is a dead ringer for BADALEX
- Is that Harry Shearer at 2:21 ? (for real is it?!)

renee geyer almost ran me over last summer on the corner of acland and fitzroy streets, very apologetic.
might have been a payback cos i nearly ran over debra byrne in acland st earlier in the year.
Geyer almost ran me over too crackwhore...although it was in the mid 80's and i was riding my bike past dundas lane where mushroom records was.
i got sat next to her on a flight back from sydney last year.
Love this song!
was this renee's big song? i was a bit young for renee first time round, but i heard one song of hers once on the radio and i remember it was backannounced as one of her biggest songs and it was really cool but i can't remember anything else about it. i wish i could see that video but alas, my nanny is on my back, being some kinda monkey.
I think it was about the only track of hers that had any chart success.
this song would definitely had been the song DANNA. it was renee's biggest song ever - reaching number 2 in australia and constant airplay in the early 80's.
renee has said she hates the song as it's not really her type of music at all.
michael gudinski obviously plied her with a lot of drinks n' said *''renee we need ONE commercial hit for you!... pleeeease record this one pop song! ...do it for mushroom records! ...do it for me! ....pleeeease!''
ah great thanks goldie. i'll go and try to find it in some kind of accessible form. kinda souly? in that 80s way?
Is that Harry Shearer at 2:21 in the video clip!
I'm serious! I think it is!
it might be shameless pop, but it's still a pretty great song
I think it's a fucking great song!
catchy as hell from the very first listen.
i bought one of her c.d at the ten dollar shop once, it was so crap i gave it to my mum. when i gave it to her my mum told me how her and her friends used to stalk Renee when they were teenagers. Mum said Renee used to work at CUE and they would go into the store try everything on make a mess then leave. heh i had a good laugh, worth spending that ten bucks to here that story
hear
renee geyer still owes me $100.
LOVE IT
i heard a funny story about renee geyer, a rehearsal room, a band of young people, some money and something else i can't mention.
Was Gerard Depadieu still a homeless criminal when he made that film clip?
Told ya it was rad. I was 3 years old I think. (Im sure it was 1981)
It may even appear on 1981 Rocks On. That is an awesome comp. We had it on cassette.
someone gmail this for me
