Squarepusher

tinyman  said about 3 years ago  or at  6:47PM on Sunday, July 6 2008 in music

i only got the last one, Hello Everything. i gather it was the least fucked up, most consistent record? i'd like to hear a bit more, but i don't want totally spastic (go plastic?) unlistenable noise. maybe i just shouldn't be looking to Squarepusher then? care to shred some light?

101010101010101  said about 3 years ago:

Not sure about records, but certainly one of the most sporadic dance acts I've ever seen live.

mallblimps  said about 3 years ago:

this ones my favourite, a bit different from the others though, it's on some weather report/bitches brew type vibe. live drums, awesome.

burningn'n'tree is pretty good as well.

LINK?

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

Selection Sixteen is probably my favourite Squarepusher release, followed by the Big Loada EP. His most recent releases haven't really done it for me.

celluloid hero  said about 3 years ago:

i like some of the calmer stuff, i'm kind of over the whole drill n bass thing.

'tommib', 'every day i love' from ultravisitor. that sorta shit. the latter is really muzaky though.

k2  said about 3 years ago:

amon tobin > squarepusher

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

i never could get around to amon tobin. i love the mellow stuff with just a hint of the amen break in the background, mellow drill'n bass.

k2  said about 3 years ago:

i love the more jazz influenced amon tobin - the strange timings and stuff - for me it's infinitely more interesting than squarepusher. still, i like do you know squarepusher, and come on my selector and stuff. I have a couple of his albums on CD somewhere.

hey tinyman, i know you dig uw and other interesting electronic stuff - you heard much tosca? you should grab suzuki in dub, and I got a double album recently called souvenirs which is outstanding.

im actually starting to get back into electronic music more and more recently - so fucking sick of shit rock band after shit rock band.

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

yeah, i heard a bit of tosca. bit too mellow for me.

i guess i went into amon tobin's sound looking for something funky. picked up the dnb style Cujo release. but it didn't rock me hard enough.

let electronic/dance music invade m+n!

mallblimps  said about 3 years ago:

funky -> paradox

mellow drill'n'b -> plug

venetian snares is well good also.

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

plug as in luke vibert's dnb disc? i loved that!

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

ultravisitor is probably his best album if you're just starting off, but it's a bit erratic (the noisiest stuff is the best though, trust me, just takes a few listens)

i think go plastic is my favourite of his, though. goes pretty mental though.

raven  said about 3 years ago:

The Plug EPs are actually a helluva lot better than the Drum'n'bass for Papa album, if you can find them. They were released as a bonus CD with the US version on Nothing/Interscope/whateveritiwas...

My fave Sqrpsr is Big Loada, easy - it has one of my favourite tracks of all time on it, ''massif (stay strong)'' (despite the rather silly title).

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

big loada is great, but it's pretty short.

raven  said about 3 years ago:

It's an EP, dude! :)

same. give it time. it's amazing.

Daz2811  said about 3 years ago:

Budakhan Mindphone is my hands down fave. but Music Is Rotted One Note comes in at a respective third after a whole bunch of daylight.

honkyphone  said about 3 years ago:

I vote for Budakhan Mindphone too - love the crazy bass playing.

k2  said about 3 years ago:

so Hello Everything is fucking awesome I reckon. Much more accessible and listenable than what I have heard previously. is a little video gamey in parts, but in a good way i reckon.

did somebody order a bass solo?

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

there's a new album on bleep for download: 'just a souvenir'

it's not bad. there's a couple of great tracks on there, ''a real woman'' is rad. like some sort of weird 70's jazz/garage rock/muzak thing. loads of vocoder.

i HATE his snare. way too goddamn tight!

raven  said about 3 years ago:

I was kinda MEGA-disappointed on first listen to just about all of it, but yeah probably there's two decent tracks. The one you describe sounds like one of them.

Not exactly ''disappointed'' though, as I didn't come in with high expectations...

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

it's the cheesiest thing he's ever done. like a speed-muzak version of music is rotted one note.

i want to like it more. i reckon there's a few killer remixes/bootlegs in there waiting to happen. second track has a good feel to it.

I used to be obsessed with ''Red Hot Car''. What an amazing peice of music.

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

red hot car: career highlight

IS THE NEW ONE GOOD OR NOT? SOMEONE ANSWER.

i shall buy it if it is good, and if it is not good i shall not bother.

TagoMago  said about 3 years ago:

I remember listening to Ultravisitor on my headphones when I was about 17 and riding my bike at night. 'Steinbolt' would freak the absolute fuck out of me and induce paranoia for the rest of the ride.

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

nobody answered my question

boo

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

i've lost track/lost touch. what's the new one?

raven  said about 3 years ago:

The new one's pretty average. Bored me mostly. It's similar to the last couple - bits of rock/prog which maybe there wasn't as much of before. Very scattered/unfocused. Some Squarepushery programming.
I don't particularly recommend it.

dub3000  said about 3 years ago:

the good squarepusher stuff (go plastic, music is rotted, big loada, ultravisitor) is just SOOOOOOO much better than the majority of it, though (do you know..., the last one, etc) . like, prince syndrome or something. i don't know if it's a lack of quality control or i'm just listening to it wrong, though.

Well new music/video impressed me. Looks like this upcoming album could be the first thing he's put out in a while to really grab my attention. radness.

I found that really really boring.

Yes. Even ten or so years ago it still would have been boring

I really liked the new song. gets great once the race car shift tones kick in

Urquhart Bluff  said about 1 month ago:

Sounds like a remix of a Depeche Mode song.

Brian O'Dwyer  said about 1 month ago:

Awesome! it's kinda got the feel of hard normal daddy with the sounds of big loada. classic []>

Brian O'Dwyer  said about 1 month ago:

This made me all nostalgic. Anyone wanna start a live drum and bass group? carn...
