IGORE THE DATE ON THIS BELOW, WE'RE ACTUALLY OPENING THIS SATURDAY!!!
The shop I've been working at for the last 3 and a half years in Penrith is re-opening in Newtown this Saturday. We've got a heap of good 2nd hand vinyl, new and second hand cd's, new vinyl, t-shirts, new LP's, interesting imports and local releases. It's about 50 m left of Newtown Station on King Street (in front of the school of performing arts, where Utopia Hair used to be). Come have a look/listen to some music or just drop in and say hi.
I'll post a bit more info about us plus some of the interesting stock we've got a bit later as i'm off to see Popolice play at Consolador.....
i'll come have a look next week!
nice one! Do you do CDR/private press stuff?
awesome i'll come down this weekend
big ups for repressed. although it's a bit sad because they were the bastion of good music in penrith for so long. geez i remember when you guys were still in that dingy little alleyway up in high street! but i'm excited that i am within walking distance now yay. i'll swing by for sure
Let's all go together and then drink beer afterwards
by ''let's all'' i assume just you and me like last time ;)
but sure
lets!
what about me andy? can i come too?
yes
i didn't mean you couldn't come
i just meant last time shaun and i organised a newtown records and beer day we were the only ones to show up
i'll shoosh now
see you on saturday
no, everyone!
andy is referring to our hope that everyone would come to buy stuff at Paint it Black one time, then they didn't :)
so i am allowed to come then? I might talk too much
yeah but paint it black is paint it black.
if i'm not working i'll come along
there is normally intense concentration at the record store, but then many laughs and jolly arguments at the pub afterwards
damn, just when I'm moving to the blue mountains (and the record store in Springwood has just closed).....
is the store near where RESIST has moved to??
-Yep we will be doing cd-r/private press stuff. We've got a bit at the moment but would always like more. I've slowly been asking friends with bands/projects to bring their stuff in.
-If you're in a band bring your stuff in. We'll do local bands/distros/labels stuff on consignment and make it worth their while by writing descriptions and giving them 25% extra if they do a trade-in for stock. Example: If a band sold $100 worth in the shop we'd give them $125 store credit.
-Same goes for selling us secondhand cd's and vinyl, 25% extra on trade-in.
-I'm not sure if the store is near where Resist has moved to. We're on the left hand side when coming out of Newtown station on King Street if that helps.
I hope Repressed Records can expose and get more people interested in the independent/DIY bands Australia has to offer. As if more people wouldn't be interested in bands like Dead Farmers, Straight Arrows, Grey Daturas, Lindsey Low Hands, NOTV, Moonmilk, Whitehorse, Garbage and the Flowers, Look!Pond, Always, Agents of Abhorrence, Fabulous Diamonds etc if they knew they existed.
we'll leave a couple of tour cds there when we come through nic!
can i trade 100 or so very shit vinyl records for one good one?
fucken awesome, between this and Paint It Black Sydney should be welled stocked with private press wares. hurrah

I had a dream that I was on the bus going through Newtown and was looking for the shop but couldn't find it, so I went back and looked harder and it was just a stall on the street. My dreams are quite bizarre but I have to check it out as I've not been yet!
nah, Repressed is actually just a guy with a backpack in a storm water drain
excellent. shouldn't have much trouble finding it then. I know Sydney's drains like the back of my hand!
i found it, and I'm not even from there... I did have frankie and trafficsounds help though.
Me and my friend looked into the window when it was closed like bums.
SAVE THE KORN PATCH FOR ME!
Don't worry man, we've got heaps of spares.
Great store guys! Once I get my usb turntable tomorrow I'll be bringing in some classic indie vinyl.
