mswahili  said about 5 years ago  or at  4:11PM on Monday, June 26 2006 in music news

following Jacob's This Heat special...

I'll be interviewing Sinking Citizenship and True Radical Miracle, who are both launching new CDs this weekend.

Also some Cherubs, Animal Collective, Guns are for Kids...

and if I have time, a bunch of Italian stuff (3/4 Have Been Eliminated, Ovo, Larsen, Sinistri). Just 'cos I can...

As you may already be aware, PBS' annual Radio Festival is underway. That means special shows, lots of prizes and hopefully lots of people taking out PBS memberships (hint, hint).
It's also Makeshift Swahili's fourth birthday today, if that makes you feel any more generous...

Tonight from midnight -2am, I'll be bringing you part one of my Australian underground rock special - a selection of now seldom-heard sounds from the Australian rock underground of the 1980s, mostly skewed towards the the Black Eye / Aberrant crowd and their ilk. Groove to the bent and mutilated rock emanating from the likes of Grong Grong, Feedtime, Fungus Brains, Lubricated Goat, King Snake Roost, Bloodloss, Slub, The Primevils, Thug, Venom P. Stinger, etc.

Next week (Monday 17th July):
Part 2 of the Oz Rock Underground special - the 1990's. A bit of premature nostalgia on my part featuring many of my favourite Australian bands from that decade. Once again, bands that are now extinct and out of print and thus rarely heard on radio.

fastcanoe  said about 5 years ago:

Hello, neglected thread.

Audio links for the old website (as posted above) won't work anymore - please contact me if you'd like to hear any of them. The new PBS website is a vast improvement, though. More recent playsheets, audio, (and gig guide) can be found at:
www.pbsfm.org.au/makeshift

I'll be updating tonight's playsheet as the show goes to air. Feel free to log into the site and post comments, requests etc.

No Makeshift Swahili tonight - in fact no more MS on Monday nights at all!

From this week onwards I'll be in a new timeslot: Thursday evenings (or Friday Mornings) 12 midnight - 2am.

djbollocks  said about 9 months ago:

Doesn't look like they'll ever give you an earlier timeslot ms.

mswahili  said about 9 months ago:

I've never been under any illusions there, djb. Pretty sure I'd have to start playing soul and r'n'b for that to happen, haha.

Anyway... Tonight! Sounds of some description!

mswahili  said about 3 months ago:
