I might have to go to Canberra for a wedding, soon. I hope it'll be fun! Who wants to take me out afterwards and get me drunk? Where are the hot places to hang out?

I'm hoping to bump into some old primary school chums - one boy that I had a massive crush on in grade 5 now drums for a band that's doing reasonably well on the local scene, so I'm led to believe... and he's still hot!

The fireworks are basically no longer, sadly. Yes though..porn is good.

The actual observatory (Stromlo, which you can still see the shell of behind our house) burned to the ground in the fires the other year...sadly.

Oh...cods-wallop Dan. I know plenty of good people here & it really is a lovely town. It ain't no city, but so what.

• I used to live there. It's fookin' lame. Some places worth drinking at are the Pheno, Filthy's, Toast, Hippo & Civo Pub, Trinity & Church.
• Most other places are filled with yuppie-bogan-pubes listening to uber-generic music.
• The ANU (Spewni) Bar died when Howard got in. It was good pre-96.
• If you don't have access to a car in Canberra you're screwed. The buses do not cut it.
• That being said, I've not found a better Laksa than the Dickson Noodle House since moving to Melbs.

So it's not all bad; ha!

The bus system here is indeed quite useless...a car really is a must.

I'm not sure if Howard killed the ANU bar, I think they did that themselves with numerous failed re-fits. It still has it's moments, I've seen some great gigs there this year.

I've had fun there so maybe I am what I despise.

Meh..it's a pub, they serve beer...no shame in having a good time there. I don't think I'm welcome back there myself....I gave the bouncers about an hour of lip last time I was there, they didn't appreciate comments like "Yes well dickhead, that's why you're a hired goon outside a shitty pub going nowhere with your life & I'm not".

Truer words have never been spoken! Lived in that neck of the woods for about a year and ate that at least once a week without ever getting sick of it.

Sammy's is ALL about the boneless deep fried chicken in chefs special sauce. Mee Goreng ain't bad either.

On a positive Canberra note...you'd have to say that given it's size, Canberra does have great eating. More restaurants per capita than any other city, not that that makes them good, but there are loads of good ones out there.

Sammy's having better laksa than Dickson Noodle House? Pffft. And what's everyone's obsession with Kingsland? Granted it's good to see some vegan joints, but the food there is awful. Maybe I've just become accustomed to the bevy of fantastic vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne, but I wasn't overly impressed when I was back for a visit.

And as for your Year Five crush on one of the boys from Cas-P, which one was it?

Kingsland is tucked up in Dickson near VideoEzy/Zeferrelis.

kingsland is that fake meat place, its all soy product, but traditional meat dishes.. its pretty rank...

Ahh the Canberra alumni is in full effect on m & n. I lived in that hell hole until I was 17. Have only made peace with the place recently after many years of bitterness.
