"I've heard the new stuff he's working on....best stuff he's ever done, I can't wait till the new album is released and he takes over the world." says the guy from the junior boys
exciting! everything dan snaith touches is magic. and he just keeps getting better

I agree about everything turning to magic, but I think Up In Flames was far better than Human Kindness.
I just wanna see him live again. The '03 tour was brilliant.
Haven't heard Human kindness, listened to 'Start breakin my heart' yesterday... and yes the lads come very far indeed. Up in Flames is an amazing piece of work..
actually yeah you're probably right. it's been ages since i've pulled out up in flames though, still listen to milk often. oh and i forgot that last UK tour EP he released was kinda shit. or at least, not magical. so there goes that theory... hahah WRONG ON BOTH COUNTS
yeah, i was hoping he might come out this summer but if he's got another record in the works he might not tour til after that comes out. always a genius liveshow
Exclusive: Caribou Signs to Merge
Reveals album details; Junior Boy Jeremy Greenspan guests
Caribooou, Caribooooooooou. That's right, my little pixies: Dan Snaith, aka Caribou, fka Manitoba, gets back in the saddle this summer with the August 21 release of Andorra.
Snaith's second album under the Caribou moniker and fourth overall, Andorra follows up 2005's The Milk of Human Kindness and comes courtesy of the good people at Merge Records (in North America) and City Slang (in Europe).
Presumably named after the tiny European nation sandwiched between France and Spain, Andorra features a big smattering of Snaith, who wrote, produced, and played every single instrument on the damn thing. The lone exception is the track "She's the One", co-written by and featuring guest vocals from Jeremy Greenspan of one-time Caribou tourmates Junior Boys.
Expect Caribou to migrate across the land-- with a full band in tow-- beginning in late September. For now, catch him DJing before Four Tet's set at the Farnham Maltings in Farnham, England, April 19.
Andorra:
01 Melody Day
02 Sandy
03 After Hours
04 She's the One
05 Desiree
06 Eli
07 Sundialing
08 Irene
09 Niobe

rad show. enjoyed it so much more than the EBC show way back whenever that was. even if half of caribou's set kinda lost me, it was still visually (physically?) enthralling. that drummer... yep. the dual drumming i can give or take. a lot of the time it just feels like a bit of bro-ing out, rather than musically effective, but still... that drummer is amazing.
'found out' was my fav by a million miles. a succinct and serene pop moment in a set of ever-intensifying epics. that guitar line is so fucking perfect. that guitarist is also the second coming of ian willians (don cab) playing posture/looks wise, which amuses.
four tet was pretty disappointing by mine, but most of the crowd loved it. almost felt like more of the crowd were there for him? i dunno.
too much red bull to sleep just now.
was it just me anok or was the mix quite awful for the start of caribou? definitely got better mid-way, but couldn't hear a thing but drums for first 4ish songs...no vocals at all which kind of sucked. or was it just me being up the front?
caribou were reallly fantastic though as you said, and four tet had some killer moments but did lose me at times
vocals were adequate where we were - next to the desk. thought the mix was solid! i mean, so often the details got lost in the density of the percussion and sequenced synthy onslaught. the bass is barely present, but it's kinda lukewarm on the records anyway.
what i meant to say was... the details were often lost but i think it'd be hard work to have it any other way... there's a heck of a lot happening most of the time. sun was pretty funny, the second half great. did they play niobe early on? i forget now. maybe i mistook something else for it. bowls also rad.
''ian willians''... hahaha. he also has a really similar kind of a setup to Williams in Battles mode - with the keyboard, laptop flipped open on it, high slung guitar, sort of intense/sweaty/worried face. SAME FACE.
I thought the vocals were a bit low for Caribou. Bass too. And toms! But I can imagine they'd be hard to mix, especially if you weren't familiar with the records and the bits and pieces that needed emphasis here and there. Hard to just guess what's carrying the song.
Four Tet was a little pointless when I heard it, and then when I later compared it to Caribou's set, I really thought it was a very poor live show compared. Which is not saying much, but still, it was very generic dance music with half-arsed gestures to the underground feel associated with Four Tet. It was all neither here nor there. Caribou, on the other hand, played one of the best shows I've seen in ages.
Still can't get over how funny the encore was.
anok - They did definitely play 'Niobe' and it's the one you were thinking of. That was really amazing, I thought. The double drums in 'After Hours' were kind of overkill, as they were a lot of the time, though I really loved them in 'Bowls'. Glad to see some of the weaker Andorra songs omitted, but would have been nice to hear 'Melody Day' or 'Sandy'. Most of the songs were from Andorra and Swim. In fact - maybe all of them?
'Hannibal' was okay, but as on the record, goes on a bit long. 'Found Out' was great. 'Jamelia' and 'Kaili' are songs I tend to skip on Swim, and I would have if I could have during the show, too. 'Leave House', 'Odessa' and 'Sun' were all really solid. I was surprised that so many people seemed to recognise all the Swim tracks from a few introductory notes. I didn't think they had so many die hard fans (or at least people who were devoted album listeners).
He definitely played this in the early show.
Just like in the firs time they toured togther, I thought Four Tet was boring and Caribou were fantastic. Not as much double drumming as the last tour, which was a good thing. Really got into it, which I wasn't expecting because i haven't really listened to much from the past two albums. Pity the only Up in flames track wasn't one of the strongest live tracks.
Was fine 3/4 of the way back. Definitely improved through the set too though.
The last few gigs at the hi-fi i've been to have all sounded shitty down the front, so I hung back for this one. Was a good move.
Pics
the late show last night was great! encore kinda sucked, the heavier dance stuff is their weakest material. Everything else was tops. Yeah would been nice to get a little more older stuff, but that's just the way it goes.
couldn't believe how many kids were there, and the crowd in general seemed really pumped for such a late show.
i think you are right blake/anok, got the feeling i was being overwhelmed by the live volume of the drums up front that it would have been more even up the back. still, vox could have been a teensy bit louder. i always find at the hi-fi that i'll be hearing an entirely different show up the back than i would at the front. must say i still really enjoyed it though!
four tet i feel played a set much too 4-4 dance-y, when it's the mellower moments on his records that i love.
Me and mine were speculating as to whether it was more an 'indie' crowd or a 'dance' crowd; verdict seemed to rest on the latter.
Sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun-sun!
hardly a 'dance' crowd.
but anywhoo.
Four Tet @ Hi Fi Bar
that R.A. caribou mixed posted up there is really very good.
Do I realllly have to create a login to download it? Groan.
google for it and you can find a link on 'electronic battle weapons'
Yeah there is a nice fresh sound to that mix. Best thing about it for me is that i don't know a single track or artist.
about six of those tracks are new caribou tracks under a pseduonym (''daphni'', i think?)
These are actually really outstanding productions and I recommend them to any Caribou fan.
