I needed a Royal Trux thread to feel happy and complete. I really love their raw dirtiness, and while I don't have any searing insights about their music these are the things I have to say about them:
- I'm still upset that I missed seeing them by 2 days in 1999
- I don't think Herrema and Hegarty have done anything better since Royal Trux
- I play Thank You at least 5 times a week
- My copy of Royal Trux won't let me rip Junkie Nurse to my iPod, every other song works ok. I find this very distressing
I feel good now. Please share.

I saw them in, erm, 93? Jennifer managed to smoke, chew gum and sing all at once. She was rather intimidating with that thousand yard stare from beneath her fringe.
i like this band.
What was the show like, kuro? I can imagine they could've been a little hit or miss live.
Yeah I missed them in 1999 for reasons I don't wanna go into.I like Hegaty's music a lot more than his writing.
their cover of money for nothing is good. that's all i knowz.
I can't remember much, springy! They were okay, not mind-blowing but still impressive. It was all about Jennifer.
I LOVE royal trux, springy.LOVE LOVE. but i think Haggerty's work with early weird war was awesome too!
Mmm...lotsa love.
I've discovered none of us can spell Hagerty's name either.
yeah i love royal trux. consistent
I think my spelling was the worst...........
Anyone heard The Howling Hex?
i'm fucking sick of trux fans not giving hagerty's post-trux shit the time of day. i'm not talking about weird war either.
all the howling hex and the stuff under his name is more than worthwhile. i reckon he's the best guitar player of my time and one of the BEST of all-time. i read some yanks going on about him being better than any magic band guitarist and i agree, though to be fair the captain had his bands on a pretty tight leash. his writing is one of a kind. social commentator/satirist much.
undisputed genius in my book. a few people have got it right over the years when they said he is an american original and yes, a genius.
hagerty is making private press-styled music for an indie label and that's good for us because it means it's easy to get and cheap. and he's pumping around 2 LPs a year!
i adore royal trux and listen to all the albums regularly and couldn't pick a favourite for the life of me. but for me it's about the present and hagerty is doing amazing stuff now. nobody can touch the guy in my opinion.
i'm dying to hear the latest howling hex, cos the last two (all night fox and you can't beat tomorrow) were both first rate.
and fuck me with the misspelling!
btw. neil is about the only dude i really give a shit about that's still making music hence the rant.
the newest howling hex has been pretty universally trashed... i didn't mind you can't beat tomorrow, and do like the track 'if you can't tell the difference why pay less?'...
on a slightly related note, how good was that weird war gig at ding dong earlier this year?
(i've only heard the first track of the newie, and thought it was unremarkable.)
blah people don't know what they're talking about most of the time re: music reviews. so i don't listen. i've loved each of the 8 hag records i've got so of course i'm excited about eternal.
you gotta give time to the endless boogie jams he's going for. i love the female singers. one of them is 60+!
he's transcending everything he's done and everything everyone else from his era is doing. his riffs are perfect. even if the ensembles are ad hoc and messy and the songs keep cycling in the same pattern - he is starting with amazing riffs and playing them out. i think it's a shame the songs have to end. what man, who are you? from all night fox is a heaven-riff. i've often thought that album is the best of the post-trux but still can't commit.
- I don't think Herrema and Hegarty have done anything better since Royal Trux
I think I should've added the qualifier "that I've heard so far". Howling Hex must've passed me on some darkened back road, I've only heard about them today so I'm yet to hear them. Will track them down. It's the Herrema/Hegarty combination that makes me love Royal Trux though. Without each other they've always lacked something for me.
yeah i definitely love the howling hex stuff i've heard as much as my favourite royal trux stuff....and yeah i love the female singers! who are they all? i have the internet in front of me i should research...
holy frijoles HH just came on my itunes!
Royal Trux, Neil Hagerty, Howling Hex, RTX(Jennifer Herrema)... It's all fucking good!!!
Weird War is pretty shit though, but Neil's only on one record.
Yes, RTX are great.
My copy of Royal Trux won't let me rip Junkie Nurse to my iPod, every other song works ok. I find this very distressing
And that's why I continue to use a cassette player.. one of the finest tracks ever written. Bless you H&H, you kept me going through some rough patches.
Twin Infinitives.
What a record. The sound of smack and nihilism.

fair enough! Birdman Rally! That's rad - was my favourite part of Moomba when I was a kid.
I reckon I'll pop along to this. I need to catch up on listening to royal trux. i don't own the really good stuff.
Sorry to dash your hopes, Seymour. Read again. RTX. Just RTX. :( No Haggerty (however the hell you spell his name). I don't have high hopes for this gig being any good, but will go there anyway.
S'okay Springolator.. I can take it.
I may have been a little drunk last night and didn't really grasp the finer detail of this thread.
Cool. I know I would be rather distressed to think that Royal Trux were playing, only to then find out later it was RTX.
i don't care
well, i do. but i'm still thrilled to see jennifer
I'm not exactly a Royal Trux convert yet, but boy is The Howling Hex a great band.
I have now been converted. I can't stop listening to 'Thank You'. This is brilliant music.
wow, good one springo, wouldn't have thought, played in 68 come back with dan right before he joined royal trux, still talk with him, have a great flyer from chicago, maybe 88/89, they were sharing my bands rehersal studio there for awhile
another awesome band produced by Kramer.
possibly recorded, not produced, which record are you thinking of?
Yuck.
Sweet Sixteen is on high rotation.
''Gotta clean as you go when you're cooking, Jack''
Accelerator is superb!
I should get that one, probably.
kramer only recorded the back to school 7''
Haha, I bet he still brags about it ;)
was just wondering what to listen to next. this'll do nicely. good bump.

Black Banana's everybody.
Yeah I was just listening to that. First few tracks blew me away. Heavy and funky glam - all over the shop...much better than the last couple of RTX releases. Very T. Rex/ Thin Lizzy and even Motorhead at times (riffage that is).
