Probably the first of many we'll get in the next 18 month; Dash & Will

From the Universal presser:
After their demos created a stir amongst major record labels, the penning of Melbourne duo, Dash & Will was highly sought after. Universal Music is excited to announce the signing of singer/songwriters, Dash & Will to their Australian roster and Mercury label.
The first thing you should know about Dash & Will is that they are a duo of 18-year-old singer/songwriters from Melbourne. Their real names are Charlotte Thorpe [Dash] and Josie De Sousa-Reay [Will]. Dash & Will are the names the girls would have been called if they were born boys. Youthful, multi-talented and vivacious, Dash & Will are the perfect antidotes to all that is plastic.
“Dash & Will epitomise what I look for when signing artists, great song writing, great vocals and great image. I’m proud they decided to make Universal Music their home and am sure they will join the long line of successful artists on the iconic Mercury label.” Peter Karpin, General Manager A&R Mercury Records, said about signing the girls.
With school finally out of the way late last year, Dash & Will threw themselves into their music and started concentrating on writing and recording the songs for their debut album, which they made in their hometown of Melbourne at Studio One and Sing Sing Studios. The end result was their debut album Up In Something, set for release in September.
''Right from the start Pete loved our songs. It wasn’t just about that ‘two young girls’ pop thing,” explains Charlotte Thorpe about signing to Universal Music. ''Writing songs is what we love doing best,” adds Josie De Sousa-Reay.
Dash & Will ‘s first single ‘Pick You Up’ is a euphoric slice of sweet and indie pop rock that will have everyone jumping around, shaking their hair and singing along in no time.
‘Pick You Up’ was mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, New Young Pony Club, Hot Chip, Goldfrapp) at Metropolis Studios, London. It will be serviced to media on Monday June 2 and released Saturday July 5.
Now, with their debut single, ‘Pick You Up’, it’s time for everyone to hear why there’s already so much excitement surrounding Dash & Will. Although they’ve been singing together for virtually their whole lives, ‘Pick You Up’ marks just the beginning for Dash & Will.
Oh excellent, just what i looking for!
..NOT
I think they call themselves 'Australia's Answer to Tegan and Sarah'. I saw them live and wasn't very impressed....
I guess they just sent in a demo to mercury records and the rest is history.
the one on the right looks like a mischa barton who has actually been eating a few sandwiches.
Cute.
yeah, i was gonna draw a similar comparison.
This relates back to my stoner thought in my stoned thread.
Why do they even bother when you can listen to Tegan and Sara or 400000 other sister/girl pop/folk duos. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
I mean why 'invent' something that's already been 'invented' as it were?
Dear Peaches,
That is heresy.

The Australian Music Industry
Hmmm, I disagree. We would have missed out hundreds of awesome bands and songs if all bands felt they had to be 100% original.
It's possible to sound like another band and still write songs worth listening to. A catchy song is a catchy song.
That doesn't mean I won't complain when bands sound like shit versions of other bands though.
Single and two other tracks on their Myspace page.
No, everything has to be 100 million trillion % original. As in, never done before. As in, played on hybrid instruments by people who have never been exposed to any music previously created.
Agreed (i'm into hiphop remember?!) I just mean that if you're going to do it, do it better or else don't waste peoples time and money. Just an example but why listen to a b-grade tegan and sara/veronicas/whatever when you can listen to a-grade?
Yep, fair enough.
These guys will def be 'lite'
If you exaggerated anymore you'd be-
ah, fergeddaboutit
yeah, but who's to say what's a-grade and what's b-grade?
different people have different tastes, funnily enough.
(and if i only listrened to my 'favourite' or 'a-grade' of each genre i listen to, i'd be sick to fucking death of the albums very very quickly. sometimes you need the similar but different vibe)
Another example in Australian pop, Rogue Traders aren't a band I like at all, but I don't have a grudge against them because at least they're doing their own thing (to an extent).. Hmmm, I need more time than I have to explain this. My soup is going cold.
and some people just have shit taste.

hm. is that ad placement for locals only?
or have dash and will been signed up over there?
it has a mercury records logo, i'm guessing its for over there
ew. it's rubbish.
nah, both mercury and island have local imprints these days i think. children collide are coming out on island, for instance, but only locally.
Saw the video and for a high-priority pop act it was unexpectedly shit.
that's their press shot, mathieson?
ouch. that hurts (the eyes).
Obviously, Betty from Hey Dad has a daughter
lol
i see them and i think of the movie Josie and the Pussycats. pretty young things in a hyper gloss setting think they're going to be rock stars by holding a guitar, thrust onto the front pages, sing some mindless catchy pop tunes. for a cheesy little something in the background, it's not embarrassingly bad, i guess. the movie was pretty enjoyable too, but then i do like trash now and then.
Unbelievably, they are on the Homebake bill.
Should go down about as well as this:
oh, goodness, garage days. ahhh, the memories.
download new song 'growing on me' from their website
they talk about their gaping holes
link
when in doubt, go the faux-lesbian angle.
sure fire winner.
the only good thing about garage days was pia miranda's nip slip.
how do faux-lesbians feel about that?
faux-y.
I hear they cover faux-y lady.
they need better tits. the vons have got them beat in that department.
