OK, So I want some badass mexican food, tacos and stuff. preferably good vegetarian menu, preferably not greasy rotten shit. anyone got some tips?

and dont say taco bill plz.
That one down in St Kilda, Blue Corn I think, it pretty decent. Lots of beans and bits and pieces in everything.
blue corn is awesome, but a bit on the pricey side.
los amates came highly recommended, but i wasn't a fan.
montezumas is ok for cheap foods and loads of it, plus theirsangria is quite awesome.
There's a new mex restaurant opening soon on Lygon St where Cafe Banter is/was. I'm hoping it'll be good, cos it's so close to my house!
blue corn is good.
bit of a quick search here
Coyote Cafe on Nicholson street (Nth Fitz) is apparently ok... and Los Amates and Blue Corn ae good... but yeah, its hard to find sensational mexican... Mexicali Rose in Richmond is semi-decent.
I don't mind Amigos in Chapel Street - isn't there a good mexican restaurant in Toorak road too?
Mexicali rose is good. I know the owner, he used to have a Mexican food store on Bridge Road, and had lots of Mexican friends. I miss that shop.
blue corn
what about that one in clifton hill?any good?they iave free tequila nights
Is Amigo's in South Yarra any good?

I was looking for recommendations, not just a list of them. Thats taco bill in clifton hill mic, gross.
but thanks! ill check these out!
Modi: you know Zac / family?
Can't beat the nachos pizza from Umago on B'St...
Zac doesn't ring a bell. I'm trying to remember the dude's name...
Not like we're best buddies. I only know him from when he worked in the shop, and I'd go in and talk chillies with him.
there's also a yum mexican restaurant in fairfield just near the train station
finally Perth has a food advantage over Melbourne. http://www.thatlittlemexicanplace.com.au/
yeah yeah I am sure the coffee is shit....
i found that place a bit crappy actually - something about the choice of vegetables perhaps? not too bad, but y'know, not great in my mind!
Modi: Ahh, okay. Zac is the son of the owner.. . I used to talk to him on IRC when I was just a teen...
los amates looks awes!
"Anyway we really hope you’ll enjoy our food and tell all your friends; we have to pay the rent soon and have to get some relatives out of jail in Colombia.
We hope you enjoy our food and service.
Arturo & Staff"
hahah awesome.

And pig's ear tacos!
Most people who crap on about authenticity are full of shit, anyway.
For real. (Geddit? Haw!)
los amates - if you've been there and haven't had the tacos de conchinita pibil yet, get on it. awesome. and their sangria is probably the best i've had. mamasita is definitely still killing it as well..
just walk down johnston street between brunswick and nicholson....
I just had hight tech burrito in hawthorn. That place is amazing. Never thought I would find a good cali burrito like that in melbourne town.
Los Latinos pupuseria in Mitchell Street, Maidstone. And there's a Chilean bakery a couple of doors down. Both are excellent.
Are the pupusas vegetarian at all?
If it hasn't been mentioned already, avoid Tasty Tacos in Northcote. Cheap, nasty and overpriced.
yep, los latinos is brilliant.
You can ask for vegetarian pupusas. Los Latinos catered for my wedding, that's how much I recommend it.
Why hello Mexican Restaurant thread!
We will be very happy here in my new cyber home!
Yes, indeed....
there's heaps now.
I will have to make regular reports then to get this baby up to speed!
paco's taco's in the city hasn't had the best rap, but maybe it was teething problems (500 bourke, the old movida terraza)
also fonda mexican in richmond, trippy taco's new bigger store, newmarket in st kilda and mamasita still with massive queues out the door most nights.
On Thursday night's apparently Dan O'Connel's do 1 dollar tacos.
They aren't a Mexican place by any means, but I want to give those a crack!
some friends went, they enjoyed, but not sure if it was the price or the food (or if the price affects the food)
As long as there isn't any morning after repercussions from the food (A hangover is fine....) it shouldn't be too bad.
Mexican SHOULD be reasonably priced though. Its just beans and corn FFS! Too many overprices places in Australia make it a pain
still need to try out Fonda
fonda great but packed. a lot of times it takes me 30mins for take away
