Ryan Adams to play two New York shows in a night
A full US summer tour is set to follow
Ryan Adams is set to play an Arthur Lee benefit gig tonight (June 23) before heading out on a US tour.
The alt-country troubadour will join the likes of Robert Plant, Nils Lofgren and Yo La Tengo at New York's Beacon Theatre for the show in aid of the Love frontman who is suffering from leukaemia.
Additionally, Adams will then dash across the city to play his own New York show at the Bowery Ballroom this evening, before hitting the road in July with his band The Cardinals, Pitchfork reports
I hope he comes back here man!

First record is getting mixed and mastered while we are on the road. Its the first of three. Its solo.
Its called "Blackhole". Johnny on drums, me on everythinbg else. lots of raw guitar and kinda sexy/ damaged tunes. My favorite easily.
Second record. I am in the studio as we speak finishing it. Its a double record, meaning around 30 songs. Its called, and I know its bogus but I dont care, its called "War and Peace". Its about cleaning up my act. I play everything and it has every style, every true guitar part, every type of soing (sometimes within one tune) to express what I have been going thru for awhile. Its hard to listen to back for me lyrically but musically all over the map. punkish stuff, some sabbath garteful mix, some silly pop, smiths disco, and sonic youth vibes and me and the songs on the piano like everything dies, and dont get sentimental and lighthnouses.
the third, CARDINALS, we started this already before our break before rehearsals for this tour, and we have 16 tracks, but half of those are good enough and half arent. "Two hearts" "Two" and a few others people might remember from past live shows are included. its gonna have just 11 songs, just 11 so maybe that"ll shut em" up after rest. no album title for that. might be called "star wars" if we caan get away with it as there is a badass tune called starwars on there. its pretty funny/ stoney.
So everybody thats the word. Time and Label willing and if Jamie C. and I can keep up and I can the art done in time, we are in buisness.
Ill work on the art in the bus before gigs maybe.

Too long, didn't read it.
I was at both the Arthur Lee benefit (which kinda sucked but Adams was in good form, as were Yo La Tengo) and the Bowery Ballroom show at 2AM that night as well ...
The Bowery show was superb. A really great performance. Little or no idiotic banter and he really pumped the songs out with passion.
There were a few newish songs sprinkled in and one at the Arthur Lee gig in particular was pretty much fuggen exo. Continued on the Crazy Horse-ish kinda vibe that he achieved on some of Cold Roses ...
So, presumably, there is much to look forward to here ...
Kinda like when you heard that American Ninja 4 : The Annihilation was coming out ...
I like him, would love to see him play.

was kinda funny watching him yelling all night long at the sound dude rear of stage. the place was so incredibly silent when he opened with Sweet Carolina, i thought shit, if it's gonna be like this for two hours it'll be too intense. sound was just amazing, you could hear his leather guitar strap squeeking occasionally. parrticularly loved Let It Ride, Lucky Now, and Please Do Not Let Me Go and of course, hearing the Whiskeytown songs live was something I thought i'd maybe never see...(particularly Avenues
Now to just get that band back together to hear them...
Torpedo Nutsack were awesome!
They were huge in the 90's!
And then he Veddered for a line or 2!
The most amazing performance I have ever seen. I had tears in my eyes mostly.
I am so sad to have missed this. how wonderful.
I don't know....
I just find Ryan Adams kind of light weight.
He's like a sorta alternative John Cougar Mellencamp for this generation.
trust me dude, if you see this show, lightweight is not a word youd even consider. this was a totally commanding performance by a heavyweight songwriter and musician. i've seen bob dylan, neil young, steve earle, those guys all play acoustic sets (never seen waits, van zandt or springsteen unfortunatley), but the standard of the show he put on last night was totally up there with those guys. anyone that can completley silence a 1500 seat theatre for over 2 hours like that with just an acoustic guitar and a back catalogue of 15+ years of his own incredible songs, has to be pretty damn special for mine...
Why are you calling these a cover Bigdaddykane?
For example, 'If i am a stranger' was a Ryan Adams song floating around way before Cold Roses...
Amazing gig by the way
or he has some really patient fans...
Patience is not one of my virtues and I was totally mesmerised. In fact I had cracked the shits with Ryan Adams off the back off his cranky Forum show in '09 -- I went in expecting to come out spastic with rage and left feeling, um, more than a little bit enchanted. It was just astonishing.
Sorry. It was really, REALLY something.
in that case ... FUCK
His voice sounded phenomenal on that system, but I admit to getting a little snoozy toward the end. I miss the Cardinals (and the substance abuse. That Palace show - '05? - was exciting, admit it).
Anyway.. Let it Ride was BEST.
Little girl seated in front of me looking at her mother in shock at 'fuck me up / steal my records' was also pretty cute.
Maybe she was conceived to it?
Fuck.
Ew.
Hm, also, I reckon Ry Ry should stay off the piano, except of course to play Mr Cat.
And given the Tweedy/Adams rivalry he should avoid playing Dear Chicago live at all costs, since Wilco's Via Chicago shits all over it (especially live), and there is only room for one alt-country song about Chicago.
See:
Adams -
Tweedy -
I just cut n paste the setlist from setlist.fm, bebop. Don't shoot the messanger. Even if I am a stranger.
And Jimmy Hutspah put into words what I was thinking when all I could muster was ''Twas fuckin radical.''
